Could easily lose it or get robbed for it like a wallet. Maybe a secondary device that is linked to your real one at home where you send a certain amount for when you're going to go out and spend with it.

So no need to have different compartments for everything and you have it all on demand, that would be insane and I bet later we'll see such a thing. Note that the STAX is EAL-5+ certified instead of EAL-4. This is a huge security advantage.

Biggest downside I see is it doesn’t have a backlight or so they haven’t said it does. All the pictures of it they make it look like bright white background with black text however videos of people holding it look very gray and kindle like. I can use a nano X in a dark room but this will need a light. That’s the only thing I feel like a lot of people will be bummed about.

I have an original Ledger Nano S, so keep that in mind when I say that Ledger's tech support sucks. I cannot get Cardano to work with it (addresses don't get displayed on the device when they're supposed to), and I have tried twice in the last two weeks to get tech support about it, and while I got emails saying they received my support request, I have STILL not heard from them. I ended up having to go with a soft wallet for my Cardano.

I also have one, and yes Ledger is definitely not known to have good customer support. Probably why my videos about them do well haha. In your case, they might not be responding because the Nano S is deprecated and no longer sold/supported by them

..so I'm new, but have you checked to see if there is a minimum requirement to send over from the platform you bought from? For example, on Kraken, you need to have 3 DOT to conduct a transfer to a cold wallet.

That's a great point - if you whip one of these things out in public, someone will eventually recognize it which could paint a target on your back. Best to only use it in a safe space!

The key questions are what happens if that screen decides to stop working and is it secure with all those multi connectivity options?

If it stops working you'll need to get a new one, but your crypto will still be safe. And its the same connectivity as the Nano X which is also considered to be very secure

I know the device isnt connected to the internet but wouldn't it easier to send an update over bluetooth about how much you have? The coins are still not stored on the device and no secret information would be shared during this process right?

In that case, yes the coins aren't stored on your account but the exact amount you have is. So if you the device got compromised, using that info someone nefarious could find out who you are and you might become a target

Yes I will! I was planning on doing it in March when they were supposed to ship but they keep delaying it. Bluetooth can theoretically be hacked but its very difficult to actually do, so its very secure

I want to have a portfolio of over 30 different cryptos. Does this mean I need three different cold wallets eg. Trezor T, Ledger Stax and Trezor 3? I was told that this is dangerous because I could confuse the seeds but I think this would give me more safety since a theif would not not know to which wallet goes what seed and I can organize which seed to which wallet or which crypto to which wallet by using an excel file (no seeds on it). The seeds I want to keep in three differrent kinds of metal seed storages to avoid mixing up. Is this a good strategy?

bro why would you need over 30 coins? that's where you start confusing yourself. just write it down and hide it somewhere, or place it in safe deposit box. depends which coins you wanna use, it's better to stake them to get the airdrop or %. Keplr, Metamask, SafePal are good software wallets where you can keep small amounts.

I reckon if the Stax was the only one that had bluetooth i'd have been more tempted but like you said. 99% of the time my Nano X is in a safe in my house and I only bring it out when I want to purchase more or sell some of my Bitcoin. Maybe if it goes on sale I could upgrade and treat myself to the Stax and keep my Nano X has an emergency back up but until that day I will wait for your review once you recieve one!

Technically yes, but a whole bunch of other unlikely things would need to happen in order to get hacked via bluetooth. You're far more likely to mishandle your seed phrase

Great question. E-ink screens are usually pretty physically durable, but it depends how they build it. They probably assume you'll be storing it in a safe place and wont be too indestructible

I bought the Nano X and returned that shit immediately after feeling how clunky all that was. Terrible non-user friendly interface, too simplistic and unidimensional operation with only 2 buttons. So glad I returned it. The Stax seems promising, but they likely lack the funding to get higher quality products off the ground assuming the current products really truly are not good enough to generate more sales.

I'm running windows 8.1 and do not wish to upgrade further for now due to other programs on the computer. A few days ago, Leger locked me out of their "Live" platform during an update. They have failed to respond to my concerns so far. I'm locked out of my crypto at this point. I certainly won't be buying any more of their products.

In fairness Gary, I think they have to prevent their software on Ledger Live from working on old, unsupported programmes for security reasons. I don't think it's a matter of locking you out specifically. Windows 8.1 won't get any further security updates and will be liable to security breaches as time progresses.
