Such a place does not exist. Know your value and be conscious about your talents. Bullshit and narcissistic attacks only work with the personal insecurities of unconscious value. Plus, try to stand your ground, learn to stand your ground, and finally stand your ground.

I worked in a place for more than 10 years, I didn't realise how much I was putting up with and all the adaptions I had made to all the toxins. 10 years after I took voluntary redundancy I have gone from strength to strength and changing jobs every 2 years or so so I don't stuck in a rut again.

@@HuskyYammyI think that is the way it is becoming no one stays at a job for long anymore unless they have already been there for 10 years or more. I see more and more people leaving jobs after 2 or 3 years. I just left a decent job after almost 4. Really just needed a break for a while but also maybe a fresh start someplace. I don’t think longevity is in the work place anymore. It’s not the 40s where people stayed at one job their entire life. I think those days are gone.

Straight up common sense approach. Its why its so good and practical. Never sell your soul just for a job, people that do that are a dime a dozen. You can spot them everywhere, miserable, lacking in substance and ambition. Your dignity, honor and meaningfulness are far more important and worth the short term sacrifices and risks.

Small tip that’s peripheral to the theme of this excellent clip of Peterson’s advice. When you have children, before they enter their teens don’t forget to invite them in to your adult world to prepare them in advance for the realities of adulthood. What I mean is, start teaching them the things that you know they’ll need to know to help them plan and set goals early when they’re old enough to enter the workforce. This might sound so obvious that it’s like I’m telling you how to suck eggs, but you’d be amazed at how many parents just let their kids lock themselves in their room for ten years and immerse themselves in computer games and perpetual escapism. It’s the worst thing for their development. They need exposure to hands on skills through their pre-teen years in things that will push them and give them satisfaction from tangible creativity. For boys, they don’t have to become tradesmen, but giving them experience with powertools, socket sets, a soldering iron, and letting them pull things apart, put them together and build things will set them up with practical problem solving skills early. Enrolling them in a team sport, or a combat sport like Boxing, Muay Thai, Wrestling or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu will teach them fitness and give them the ability and confidence to handle themselves among their peers, and help with growing their social skills. Exposure to quality literature that will cultivate their minds and teach them how to think beyond the padded cell of pop culture is another critical thing that will pay dividends for the rest of their lives. And exposure to the world, to travel, to foreign languages. This all begins in the home. I’ve believed for a few years now that a child’s world is only as big as their parents world. Parents want to give their children every head start they can get without pushing them too hard, and when parents live in a broad world they expand their children’s horizons. I know there are some of us here that have wished that their parents taught them more than they did. It’s our responsibility to prepare our children for life to the utmost, and one of the greatest gifts a parent can give their child.

Okay, so here's what I'd say, the best way you can plan your exit route will be; add a new language into your resume, this skill along will get you 90% of the jobs that your peer won't even have a chance getting in. And, if you're one of those who willing to push further, write a market research paper in the field that you're working and attach bits and pieces of it along with your resume. Come and scold me later on, if you didn't get the job.

35 is still young. If you're up for some pain, try meditating. See what thoughts come up from you when just sitting there gets too boring to tolerate... sooner or later something dark, or just horrendously stupid and unwise will come up for you. (1) Notice it. (2) Acknowledge it. Admit to yourself that you had the thought no matter how embarrassing it is. (3) Ask yourself what it's covering for. What could be so bad, and so shameful, that you'd rather wallow in the thought that came up, than admit the thing your mind is trying to keep buried. (4) Write it down. (5) Repeat. You'll know yourself in no time, and you'll hate me for the suggestion - 'cause now you'll have a whole new set of more fundamental problems 😅

One thing not mentioned is switching careers is not easy. Employers want one thing above all others and that is years of experience in their particular job opening as well as to mitigate all risk. Education, social skills, and the like will only get you so far and can mean absolutely nothing without the experience. It's why you see entry level jobs and internships requiring 3 years minimum of experience.

I agree with this video. I cannot stress how important it is to have a new job before quitting your current one. Lost income is the first obvious reason. The 2nd is psychological. I made a planned exit after 35 years. I have enough savings and investments to last several years. What I did not know was the toll it would take on my mental health. Being idle will drive you mad. Screw hobbies and volunteering. That can wait until I’m much older. I’m 58 and when I find a job I will not quit again until I or the job give out.

What kind of a bargain could an employee make? The only thing employees have to negotiate with is the threat of leaving. This threat is only credible if the employee is independently wealthy or has another job offer. Therefore, the only people in this world who are not slaves are the independently wealthy. Most employers don't like employees with enough wealth to make that threat credible, so the "negotiation" could only be used once, and then the employee who disclosed being wealthy would only have a short time to leave before being replaced by a true slave equivalent who could be maximally exploited. Leaving for another job is the only "negotiation" an employee can really mount--but that worker must then face the working man's burden of not knowing the conditions they'll be in at the new job. It's harder to find a job right away after just starting a new job, so the chance of being forced to submit to unacceptable conditions in that vulnerable new state is even higher.

That's not necessarily true. What if the 'idependently wealthy' as you called it worker is a good natured, skilled, dependable worker and never causes any trouble unless he's being treated clearly unfairly? Then he makes the threat (doesn't have to be clearly said, but might as well be an assertive stance) I don't believe that an employer who often gets trouble filling in a vacancy with a decent person will look to replace him. He would rather straighten the issue out I think as that would also boost morale of the team like saying that we are fair here. Of course that may not work like that with a vacancy that requires no skills and is very easy to fill with anybody. That's why it's said in the video that the process may take some time as it may require studying etc and finding a job that might be a proper fit...

After 10 years, I left the engineering field and pursued business operations management. It was hard because I had to go back to school and didn’t work for 2 years. During this transition I discovered that my mind was wired to problem solving, which goes hand in hand in operations. I integrate what I learned from engineering and fast forward, I am now the director of expanding a small franchise. The fact is, a lot of what I do on now a daily basis is very similar to engineering. Funny how things come full circle. I am blessed to say I love what I do now.

I was in the same situation twice in 3 years. I was in a Job for 11 years, good pay, benefits... I found another job a few years back with more money but I declined and decided to stay, I was afraid of the risk of leaving. I grew more and more miserable and things kept adding up to create the"monster" JP describes. 3 months ago I was offered another job and this time I took the risk and left. So far so good and I am glad I had the bravery to take the job. It's hard when you have responsibilities (only household income) especially with the covid situation.

Whereever you go, there you are. This is step #1. Do I need to change or is it really the job? One of the keys to life that I've found is to live well below your means and create margin. That gives you more options and far less desperation. Debt is a liability. It shackles your time and future. It becomes very difficult to chase a passion and fulfillment with a big mortgage, car payments, student loans etc... I believe every American should strive to be completely debt free at a young age. Live while you are young!

I've changed industries so much trying to find my place it's not even funny. Railroad, trucking, cable, commercial fishing, tire tech, manufacturing and courier work. Pay isn't much of a factor for me. Obviously I want to be paid well but happiness is above all for me. I've taken major pay cuts just to be with family more. Unfortunately I have yet to find a career where I really feel like I'm making a difference.

I'm working in the same company for nearly 8 years I never miss a day I used to come in early and exited and motivated but the last 2 years iv been going to college at night and and it's all coming to an end I feel safe having a degree behind me now cause in the last year we've had a change in management and staff and I'm the only original left and I had to show the manager how things worked because he hadn't a clue ever since he started he depends on me to make sure everything goes well or he gives out and it has nothing to do with wat I'm originally sopose to be doing so I'm planning on getting the job I studied for. I work 6 days a week since he started my new job I only have to work four 12 hour shifts a week and my current job I'm working 12 to 14 hours a day and no overtime just making the big shots look good by sending out the product in better quality. Hard to explain wat I do but it's all steal and concrete. I'm keeping quiet about my plan but I'm very excited about dropping in my cv today hopefully I get it 😬 😅

I would love to do carpentry but it doesn't give enough money at the moment due to lack of place, and equipment. So I'm operating concrete pump wchich os not so bad but hours are very long (somedays even 14hours). But if something happens I always have escape route and that's the point I think.

Not necessarily always applying for jobs, but yes to keeping your resume up to date, learning new things and what I learned the hard way: start applying for other jobs *as soon as* you feel the first inkling to do so. We need to learn to plan for our own wealth health and wellbeing, nobody will come with a rescue boat to save you from a life that's broken you mentally spiritually and financially, taking the step of start small clean your room was a profound statement that will empower lift you if that is what want. But I have to say fighting depression after being Pro active and alive is a daily burden for many the shadow does not leave the room everyday. The job you do is usually secondary to who you work with! Far too many people are shifty people. People that talk about others in a negative way, that throw someone else under the bus if they think it makes them look good, people that don’t give you credit when you work together and take credit for an idea you had, people that lie about others and tell half truths, people that promote their lazy friends (which seems to be the norm today) and not the experienced hard worker that wants the whole team to succeed and be happy…. I feel Ike the list can be a mile long how shitty people can be (thankfully there are almost always some really great people too, just sad that the shitty people seem to always outnumber them).

I've recently got a new job at a university's restaurant. Originally, a worker I knew said temporary labor get to pick their hours, but I ended up with a schedule from eleven AM to six PM, Monday-Friday. See, I always preferred to take a weekday (and Sunday) off. That way it isn't five days straight; there's a break day in the middle. First day was all right, but in case I don't like the job and end up miserable here (same reason I left my last job), how inappropriate would it be for me to switch out of the job in, say, March or April?

See the issue is right now for me is I am closer to turning to 21. Have this amazing friend of mine who over the course of a few months spent all my money mutually on stuff that we didn’t need, my grandparents and Dad made me an ultimatum after they found out that I needed to find another job or I would be homeless since I was let go on good terms from the one job I was at for a year, and another job I went into and was let go of after a month due to performance issues. My fear is finding a job that doesn’t fit my persona and that I am gonna erupt and explode into the monster that is so talked about in this video. So I’m scared in that I don’t know what to do in order to keep my happiness in tact and not become bitter and resentful and or a hateful human being like so many others do when faced with a job that sucks the life out of them. And when I try explaining this, no one understands and or listens to me. So I’m uncertain as to what I need to be doing in my life and how to better myself in the work field to either understand how to deal with it without hurting someone or to actually find a job that means well for the short term until I gain the experience necessary to get a job I like.

TLDR 1 - your never safe (actually, the less happy you are the less safe you are - people can tell, and people don’t like being around it) 2 - don’t be afraid of being afraid. I’d say embrace it and de-risk the fear. How? Practice, read about the company or job, read other people’s comments (lots of blogs/reddits/review sites out there) 3 - get off your ass and start looking . Here’s the thing, always be looking. You can always say no if offered something.
