The problem I have with learning through KZbin is that not everything is structured due to excessive availability of information. I think I’d do a one-year diploma which covers everything instead of breaking the one year down into three.
@Dongwoo_lee3 жыл бұрын
That's a really wise choice.Learning musical theory at descent level is always crucial to create your own music. Many beat making contents you can find in youtube actually doesn't cover much theory, at best some chord progressions. Most tutorial actually heavily inclined to how to use DAW. Knowing musical theory at some extent gives you more sense to catch ideas of melody, chord progression and so on. Many people disvalue theory cause they actually don't need to learn, instead they PICK the loop or sounds they like in sample packs. I don't think that's totally wrong. But as a amateur daw users with jazz background, my knowledge of musical theory actually boost up the entire process and gives variety to the sound. I truly value your decision. Good luck bro.
@UltimatePokeGamer72 жыл бұрын
@@Dongwoo_lee Musical theory makes everything easier. However, why wait to learn it during the course when you can learn it from someone who knows how to play the piano or guitar. Always stay one step ahead so instead of learning for the first time, you can revise what you learnt and always stay ahead. Post that, I’ll start my diploma in the summer.

I feel like I should go to school so I can just learn how to do it and make my music professionally. I've been an artist all of my life literally so I feel maybe this is the right choice. I'm just nervous about the funds. I know how it was in college and I had a full-ride so Idk. When I start thinking bout the money it just starts sounding impossible.

I appreciate this young man's honesty. I also like the fact that you are encouraging young adults to do it if it's their passion. Some of us come from broken homes or families that don't have a lot of wealth, which is ok. Do something for yourself, invest in yourself. He mentioned it cost approx $30K, that's ok too. There are grants and scholarships available. You have to find them. I also look at it like this, so many of us go into debt over a car and have nothing to show for it 5-10 yrs later. Because cars break down and you end up investing in another. So in 14 months to 2 yrs, you earn a degree that no one can ever take from you. However, it's up to you how you market yourself afterwards and $200 a month to pay back a loan? This was his arrangement, but even if that's the going rate you will earn that back when you get an engineering job or sell a beat perhaps. Again how you use your degree is up to you. That degree will catapult you a lot further than sitting at home trying to figure it all out on youtube. I say do it, if that's what you want to do.

So I went to a tech school didn’t even finish the program, went to school for “business technology” I wasn’t interested at all. So I moved to Florida life happened moved bck to Georgia. Now I’m at a place where I have to do what I have a passion for & that’s music. I’m like you I can pick up any music just by listening & I watch a lot of music production vids & majority of them can make beats within 5 mins. Went to college in Atlanta for music production. Would definitely go back. Love the environment, the people, etc. I must admit.. You can learn music production on youtube. However. remember, with anything you'd like to learn and get into, you need someone to steer you in the right direction. A Mentor is recommended. These things can be easier to attain through connections within your college. I must agree with L.Dre's point on connections. Also, people are more likely to take you seriously when they see your paper (degree).

I am currently in school at LA Film School for Music Production. I have been playing and recording music for over 25 years. I started Music Production classes to help me learn how to use the DAW's, (Digital Audio Workstations, "software packages") since I grew up with reel to reel tape machines. Recording on tape, were we literally cut the tape and spliced it together to edit songs to their final state. I wanted to learn the newest software and techniques in todays studio's. I have learned so much!! It has been so worth the 35K. I have learned so much more than expected, and the connections are unreal. If you're considering a career in music and want to gain an edge on the market, you seriously need to consider this. You'll learn everything from the a's to z's of music, the roots of music theory and making beats, to full on productions and everything in between, not to mention the ins and outs of the music business.

A lot of people say learning theory from the beginning is waste of time and jump into DAW right away. What they don't know is,however, whether you like it or not your music never set out of the realm of musical theory especially when you write melody. I know bunch of my friends start music production with no knowledge of theory but later got back to learn theory as they progress. People will realize themselves at some point of their producing journey. I highly agree with you man. Learning theory never get you down people plz go learn theory.

I’ve loved to do music as a kid and especially making beats. I’ve progressed overtime by looking at KZbin videos and tutorials bro. I’ve never went to school for music and certain people I know dig the music/beats I make.So than I started questioning if I should go to school and get a degree in it is that’s the best thing to do? After doing my music and putting it up on the internet and social media I found myself not having a crowd or fanbase that’s one of the main challenges I’ve noticed to build a fanbase. So I need to get my connects up. So I’m like how is that possible you may also have a lot of followers and promote and inform your music about but not everyone’s going to check it out or dig it,, you see what I’m trying to say? Now back to my question is it best to go to music school for this reason? And can going to school help you collaborate with Artist faster than not having a degree in music or does it depend? Or doesn’t matter? p.s thanks for uploading this video and giving insights it was helpful 🔥🙏

The music production does require a lot of business so it’s good you have that background

When people assert that college is not suitable for everyone, it is important to include a disclaimer that highlights the necessity of self-education at one's own pace. When pursuing a trade independently, it is insufficient to simply acquire trade-specific knowledge without possessing essential research skills, grammar skills, and other proficiencies that formal education can provide. For instance, when collaborating with industry professionals, there is a tendency to exploit and take advantage of talented individuals who lack fundamental comprehension of legalities and similar matters. This unfortunate situation has affected numerous artists throughout history, including the well-known examples of Motown and, more recently, TLC. There are countless artists who excel in their craft but have been mistreated due to their lack of business acumen.

I’m thinking about going to LA film school for music production and using my G.I. Bill, I’m really nervous because this is the next step out of my seven years of service

I was in school for production but I dropped out thinking about going back because i feel people can do good and learn a lot on there own but nobody’s gonna care unless u have a dumb ass piece of paper that says u graduated !!

Just started going to LA Film for a BA in Audio Production. I’m just starting my second course and I wasn’t really sure if it was going to worth my money in the end, but this video helped rebuild my confidence in it. However I do feel like I should include that I’m really enjoying my time at the school! Thanks for the video!

Im a month away from committing to a school for college and I got into Berklee and I really want to go but what's holding me back is that massive tuition cost. its not even that I want to go for the big name or anything tbh, its more that I want to surround myself with music and musicians and collaborate and make connections. I've watched a lot of videos regarding whether music school is worth it or not and a lof of them are along the lines of "if you're in it for the name or the status, its not worth it" and that especially for berklee, you go to make connections and relationships. I find that as a music producer, that's so important too.

I'm going to. Mainly for the "free" equipment and education on music theory and business but it seems worthwhile.

Honestly nah, it's not worth the money. But if you don't go to school for it, you need to meet people and make connections wherever you can.
