In Switzerland, it’s illegal to keep just one guinea pig at a time because of their social nature. The same should apply to parrots. I’d recommend at least two, or maybe even a third one as a backup for in case something bad happens.

I always recommend having 2 of a species. It truly makes them happier and increases their wellbeing.

I had a budgie and a blue pacific parrotlet. They were about....a year apart in age and they really bonded and they were both male. If I had to take one to a different room for a second or something. The other would call for them like crazy. And they both learned how to talk just like each other. Sometimes would what we called Stereo. Which they would talk budgie or parrotlet at the same time. It was so funny.

That is awesome! What a wonderful pair. Thank you for posting. You don't still have them?
@paulabunyan8734 Жыл бұрын
@@ParrotBliss Yeah, they were quite the duo. They were my boys. They really helped me through a LOT during their lifetime. And sadly no, they both have flown over the rainbow bridge. My budgie passed last October and he was about 14 to 15 years old. And my blue pacific parrotlet passed this year in Feburary, and he was 12 to 13 years old.

Thanks for the video, I’m struggling to find an answer for the parrot we’re trying to get, we’re family of four, kids are 10 and 5, we’ve relatively busy life with kids, we found red head Amazon parrots, $4k for a pair, trying to figure out whether we should get one or pair? Any inputs will be greatly appreciated.

I’ve been thinking of getting parrotlets for years but still havnt gone through with it. I was wondering if I could have a pair of males, I really don’t want to bread them or worry about egg laying. Is a male pair ideal?

I love having a flock of Caiques! Luckily they all get along. They are together during the day and have separate cages at night. They come to us for attention and pets but they do parrot things like preen each other. They also play and get into mischief together. For some reason my Caiques have lost their interest on our canaries.but one of my female Caiques would love to get one of the budgies. She is the only one that has shown aggressive tendencies. Ivar (formerly Jasper) is the odd man out. He doesn’t fly. The flock pretty much ignores him. All except one black headed female. She will approach him and preen him. And, he reciprocates. I love all of the considerations you brought up. Did you mention birds meant to be friends may not like each each other? Your baby Linnie is a beauty. Can’t wait to see the color.💕

Ivar has a friend! How sweet! Yes, I think I said that intended friendships don’t always work- but I may have said that in the video version I didn’t use… interesting that your Caiques lost interest in the canaries- that’s a relief, right?

Hello I am a new subscriber and love your channel! So informative! Do you recommend that for lovebirds that you keep two even if they aren’t a bonded pair? The breeder recommended we just get one so that it bonds more closely with us so we did about 6 months ago - and we spend about 2-3 hours with her outside of her 3x3x2 cage each day playing and talking and training - but I still feel guilty that maybe we should have another. But plan to keep them in separate cages unless they get along extremely well for a long time beforehand. In your experience would a lovebird benefit from having a friend in a separate cage but same room (in case they don’t get along) or better to keep just the tamed one alone that we have? Thanks so much!
@ParrotBliss Жыл бұрын
I always keep pairs of birds as much as possible - it is their natural state. If you are well bonded, and you keep spending time with your lovebird, I’m sure that your bond will stay in place. I actually think he/she will probably teach a new Lovebird to bond with you too. I would leave them in the same cage, once I observe that they get along. I have not observed that they are a species that sometimes do not get along. They are always so much happier and healthier when they have another of their species. Thank you so much for watching and subscribing! Let me know how it goes.

I have a green Amazon. I kind of rescued him 22 years ago. Now he’s 41. Sydney doesn’t like me too much. He likes my wife, although I take care of him. Understandable I guess. At this time in his life I have more time for him and want to do everything I can to make him happy. So I’ve been watching more podcasts to learn more about Amazon (green). Please reply?

I have a large outside aviary. I have cockatiels, budgies, regent parrots and canaries. They are fine during breeding season. I am 10000000% against having one alone. I do not recommend to have 3 either. I think every bird should have one friends/mate so 2,4,6,8,10,12,14..... is the best.

Great video. I couldn't get multiple parrotlets to bond with me. It's likely something I do. She's normally alone about 4 of her waking hours. She dislikes the XL flight cage and I have to make her go in for overnight sleeping. The door is only closed overnight. I have to leave food and water on her favorite perching stand or she loses weight. She is well behaved...with bird-proofing...vertical blinds all raised and 1x6 boards laying on top of the upper kitchen cabinets (they do like to chew!). I stain the cheap wood with brown food coloring so it's less noticeable. The living level is on the second floor so she enjoys her buddies the tree about 10 feet from the window. With a new strain of bird flu, I worry about opening that window in case a wild bird perches on the sill. What do you think, is this something we should be concerned about?

My partner and I have 1 Parrotlet. My partner said "well, it looks like you are his Girl Friend" by his behavior towards me and how exceptionally aggressive he is to her. Neither of us like the extreme aggressiveness AND I don't really feel he and I make the ideal couple. So I have been talking to my partner about us getting him a girl friend/wife. Would getting him a different mate help curb his super aggressiveness? He's 4 to 5 years old.

@@ParrotBliss OK sorry I should've been more clear. I work from home and he sees me all day but it's not enough. I'll PREFER to get another species but if he will bond better with a Amazon his own species then I'll get another white fronted amazon.
