I appreciate your honesty and integrity. It is refreshing. Sometimes in business you feel like you need to just put up the blinders and do it anyways whether you like it or not. I appreciate seeing you do the right thing, it motivates me to do the same.

Commercial client asking for a break down on a $27k repair job? No problem. Residential client asking me to break down the price of their water heater? Pound sand.

What’s up Brassman I’m a 1st year apprentice down here in maple moose land of Canada just letting you know your honesty and transparency about you’re business is really helping me understand why jobs are priced they way they are and to set myself up now to be successful starting my own shit up later. Even if you're owner/operator doing everything yourself, no other workers, charging time and material, it's risky to break it down. People are delusional.

Itemize if you want to lose money because they will pick apart your bid
@brasshouse-og3 ай бұрын
You have to remember that my main thing is about building relationships. I believe in finding high volume customers. I’m not just trying to do business with you one time. I’m trying to do business with you for a long time. If you’re not OK with the way I price we’re not gonna be able to do business for a long time. Several of my customers already know more or less what I’m gonna charge them for things because I’m so transparent with the way I price things. It makes it really easy on me.

I itemize by default, and I've been asked _not_ to itemize- It's their accounting, so I do what they ask me to do.

How much do you mark up sub contractors within that invoice?
@brasshouse-og3 ай бұрын
@@dustanjohn9920 I just showed them the marked up amount. I usually do a 30% margin on subs but this time I only did a 20% mark up

Hey bro- love the series- but think about WHO is paying the bill- the company may be using insurance or they may have to sue the city (depending on the property lines and ownership) - insurance companies may demand a breakdown and include maps - it might be a good habit to get into- especially where “fault “ may be several responsibilities ( I.e . City is responsible for pipes under the sidewalks- business owns from sidewalks to buildings) good luck brother!

how would you list, or how would you word in an itemized invoice when you divide by 0.7?

@@sc2LEGEND just mark up each part and then list it after you’ve marked it up

The way you itemize is fair....it get's into minutia when estimating for insurance claims....and I'm an adjuster.
@brasshouse-og3 ай бұрын
Back when I did residential, that was one of the main things that caused me to itemize invoices. It could be a bit of a pain in the ass, because it seem like some of them would pay for the Excavation, floor repair, repairs to walls, etc., but they wouldn’t pay for the actual repair of the plumbing
@blake_77913 ай бұрын
Yeah, if it's a leak or something electrical etc insurance will pay for the damages (bring the person back to condition it was before using like and kind materials) but the actual repair to the at fault item isn't covered
