Got the same car recently. Just took care of the cosmetics, daily driver until I graduate college and get my financial stuff situated. Ladies love the looks so far and don’t care for the horsepower, I feel like we all just get insecure because other dudes bash on the V6 constantly.
@CupaJoe3 жыл бұрын
I’m not going to lie, the V6 Mustang is always underrated, it has great torque, light weight, great at handling, and to be fair the cosmetics part is so very fun ! The 4.0 for sure gives off a great muscle car sound for what it is and to be honest you can have so much space under that hood, you could have a ton of fun (modding, etc) daily it’s amazing, the mpg is incredible and it’s so very comfortable. I’ve always felt insecure of the same infill I realized those damn v8 stangs are out numbered, the V6 has always been the prized possession of ford and if you simply look at it, besides the mustang V6 the actual GT of Ford (not the mustang) is a V6 carrier as well !! I love my car, it will teach me more than any other car as I take my way in my future car collection but it’s truly a great fucking car and I hope you take as much pride as I do in mine David ! :)

I kept mine stock and am planning to go 500,000 miles on the 4.0 without opening it up. I am halfway there at 250,000 and get over 30 mpg on the highway. I can cruise at 110 mph no problem why would I need more power to cruise at a higher speed? Unless you drive on the track a V8 is kinda pointless for daily driving. These cars are as fast as a 1965 Shelby GT350 and those are not slow cars. We are just spoiled today with modern engines and crazy horsepower that is unusable on the street. You gotta ask yourself if you have the driving skill to handle the power you do have. How many times have you needed to go over 120 mph?

My next step is throw a cam in from supersix put a gt rear end in. Enjoy it for awhile then pull the block figure if I can clean it up and bore it out to a 4.3 and build or buy a “new” ( in quotation because there is no new block they are all remanufactured ) 4.0 block and build that one. hp for the 4.0 is actually close to 300hp which is pretty close to the 4.6. I'm stock and I've kept up with Civic Type R's and Subaru Wrx sti's. The specs on the 4.0 have NEVER been updated since the first gen engine was in the ford explorer. When they put them in the s197 mustangs, they changed the intake plenum, the cooling system slightly, Tuning, and some others. So the google spec of 210hp and 249tq is bs and anyone who has "actually dyno'd" any of these have given inaccurate numbers. If you went by your numbers, that would be saying that the newer civics and what not would dust the 4.0 out the gate.

I’ve had an 07 4.0 for the last few years. I’m torn between supercharging it, getting a 3v GT, or getting an early 3.7. For my final goal for a 290-300whp~ish daily, I lean towards procharging the paid-off 4.0 plus appearance mods are a little cheaper and look better than the 3.7s. The 05-09s look the best imo. Also I can save and store everything until I have enough to install it. Plan on going to school soon so a coyote is just out of the question for a while especially in the age of corona... Kinda want a GT too because I’ve seen too many *TACKY* 4.0 ricers 🤮. If not, guess I’ll just lead by example and keep it classy. No plasti-dipped hoods, 747 wings, or awful altezza tail lights here 😷

As a fellow owner of a 2005 Ford Mustang V6 the best thing you can do with these is start off by upgrading the suspension, wheels, tires, and brakes to improve control and reliability first, next the drivetrain example start with coolant reservoir tank, radiator with fan, and a high performance transmission cooler to make sure your engine and transmission stays cool and not overheat then install a high stall speed torque converter, aluminum solid one piece driveshaft and a 8.8 or 9 inch ford rear axle with the Eaton true track differential along with 4.11 gears since it definitely needs help off the line acceleration, then finish it with a full complete exhaust system from headers, x pipe, to a true dual cat back exhaust, don’t spend any money under the hood but if you do keep it naturally aspirated and keep it on 87 octane tune since you want it as a dependable daily driver without costing you a fortune on gas and maintenance then save your money do some research so in time when your ready you can swap that 4.0 V6 for a 5.0 Coyote V8 and boom your welcome.
