As if people didn't have enough problems, now there are Murder Hornets here to wreck havoc on the environment! Wy are they so dangerous? Are they more dangerous to humans or to other animals? Is there anything we can do to stop this invasion? We break it all down right here.
To report an Asian Giant Hornet sighting, contact the Washington State Department of Agriculture Pest Program at 1‑800‑443‑6684, pestprogram@agr.wa.gov or online at agr.wa.gov/hornets.

As they seem to be 4-5x larger than honey bees, would it be possible to make hive entrances as a grid of smaller holes instead of one large one? A partial sollution, of course, but it may be easier to deal with them outside of the hives.

A honeybee hive of a local beekeeper was decimated in April (2020) about 10 miles from my house is northwest Washington. There’s probably no connection with this, but it’s now late May and I’ve already had to kill 4 start-up, yellow-jacket nests on and around my house - highly unusual so early in the season. It was a mild winter so I;m not real surprised, but at the same time it doesn’t bode well for this Hornet situation. I love to run my dogs on the wooded paths around here and it makes me a little nervous.

1:15 someone from Asia thought that it would be cool to play bee keeper over here and when they got bored they just let them go free without a care for the environment. Wasn't the 1st time someone thought it would be neat to have foreign species for whatever reason without considering the consequences to the local environment.... Probably won't be the last....

Well you also have to understand that there are other pollinators in the US and they all do their job as bees do. People think that if the bees go away then everything will become desolate, and that's just not true. It's important to note that it may be impacted but if there are several thousands of other types of pollinators like for one example moths, that can still do pollination. I'd advise people to make sure you do your research before blindly thinking it's the end of the world when we can easily substitute it for something else. Something we should be talking about is how these new species will interact with all of the other variants of pollinators, and whether or not it may BEE necessary for us to import the Japanese honey bee as a counter and how that will interact with the environment as well. Stay smart everyone

There are some specially designed beehives in Europe that protect the native species against the hornets. They use a mixture of labyrinth deadend entrypoints to the hive that either lead the hornet to a pool of water where they drown , or trap it in a passage and starve them to death.
