AC 3 is in the same boat as Unity. When they both released they received heavy criticism with Unity toward its bugs and glitches and AC 3 toward Connor with his personality and being different from Ezio and with what happened with the modern day. Since then they both have both gotten more praise in the AC community.

What's ironic is that Connor was criticized for not being like Ezio and Arno was criticized for being like Ezio. Because the Ezio trilogy is so overrated (AC2 is good, Brotherhood is just a useless 2.5 and Revelation idea is so underutilized with 95% on Ezio and just 5% on Altair while the latter could have so many more sequences), later games besides BF and Origins will be underrated. Connor is more serious and stoic than Ezio because unlike him, he never lived in one happy family, he doesn't have the luxury to be complacent or joyful as he thinks his whole tribe future is on his shoulders and he had to fight in a world with gray area unlike the indians world where he grew up and with things are more black and white than grey

I started playing the AC series from the beginning a few months back, and AC3 was the last one I finished. So naturally I’m hooked on the series and intend to play them all. I’m on Black Flag now. But AC3 was a blast. I really enjoyed the story from finding out as Haythem you were playing a Templar and I liked that Connor was so different from Ezio. I loved the Ezio trilogy but AC3s combat and controls felt so much better to me. I’m excited to play the others and see what everyone keeps talking about. Cheers!

Call him whatever you want. But you can’t say that Connor isn’t the most dedicated ba****d in the series. He was chasing Lee’s trail since the start. He was on him since the tea party. He was on him during an entire war. He was on him even in Prison! He was on him even in a fortress under Washington’s watch and STILL kept going after getting hit with a stray cannon ball! He was on him at Boston. ALL the way to some bar at the Frontier… after being IMPALED by a piece of wood he was under while chasing Lee. It got to the point, Lee just gave up on living and shared a drink with him. He made. A TEMPLAR! Give up trying to continue avoiding him.

The game is very good if you look at it independently. The combat has to be the best in the franchise, the protagonist is spectacular and the gameplay is extraodinary if you get used to the mechanics. My main problem about this game is it's story. Let me explain before you rush at me like Connor at the redcoats in the battle of Lexington. It is a quite nice story. However I am a person that really pays attention to a game's or movie's story. It is the one and only REQUIREMENT for me. And here's how I personally perceive a good story -briefly- - Emotion - A well-designed protagonist whom I get bonded with instantly -Variety -Proper pacing/development/order - Insignificant amount of plot holes or no plot holes at all Assassin's Creed III ticked 2 of them in my experience. Again that's me because I focus very much on these things. And apart from the story there are some...Ubisoft things that really annoyed me such as the detection system and a few unreasonably semi-incomprehensive mechanics especially on the parkour aspect. What really showed me that the remastered version of the game -which I played- required more care than it received is the fact that the game it's self mildly spoiled me about the continuation of the story. Basically I decided to do a side activity that started with a dialogue between Connor and a side-character that spoiled something that happened a couple of sequences afterwards. No major harm done but when I understood it it kind of pissed me off. Overall the game is very good and as a huge fan of both the American revolution and the Asssassin's Creed franchise I give the game an 8.1/10

Honestly the most tragic story for an assassin. Outside of the homestead missions, Connor *spoiler alert* Just gets used throughout the story. He gets used by George. The guy who sent Lee to attack his home. He gets used by the rest of the patriots for their own freedom. Hell the reason he set out to get Lee to begin with was just Juno using him to get her glorified house key! And what does he get for all of that by the people that used him? Having to silence his friends and family to stop them from giving the Americans a reason to off them. All for nothing as they get kicked off their own land later on regardless.

Probably the best part of AC 3 are the side missions such as the homestead, peg leg, fort takeover, and naval missions I also love Haytham, getting new mechanics and tools such as tree parkouring, the modern day is the best in series followed closely by Brotherhood's modern day, and the sound track is great especially Trouble in Town. Worst part are the optional objectives. They are easily the worst in the series in this game with how specific and limited they are such as not letting Washington's bodyguards die, not getting detected on the two ships in the Conflict Looms mission, maintaining a certain distance from the target you are chasing while also killing 3 duos of guards at the same time in one of the peg leg missions, not shoving or tackling anyone but the fleeing target, and destroying the powder kegs on three ships in one of the naval missions. Thankfully checkpoints allow for a reattempt at them rather than restarting the missions over. Also I agree that enemies can detect Connor very quickly even from a distance, the American Colonies aren't one of my favorite settings in the series, and after this game the modern day loses direction and its importance to exploring the animus.

Not underrated by me. I still love that game. I love the setting and the combat and its flashy and visceral brutality. The story is more grounded and interesting to me than ezio epic as a whole (which I liked); and i liked the long setup of AC3. Black flag is by far the stronger game, AC3 is still strong in my eyes because of the setting. Connor’s outfit is the strongest in my opinion. Ezio’s outfit is maybe more iconic, but conners is such a good design. I personally wish there was an Off button to the modern day trists that AC games pulls you into. I hate being pulled out of the animus. My dream is AC3 remade but with the graphics of red dead redemption, because I was replaying red dead while writing this, and the way Valentine looks when it’s night or raining, is so muddy and crude but so naturalistically good, and it’s really would do the Boston and colonial setting so much justice. When it released in 2012 it was plagued with bugs. I remember the biggest gripe was the fact that Connor couldn’t snipe enemies from the bush with his bow, so I think they added a crouch in the remastered if I’m not mistaken. But the game being glitchy, the change from the charismatic Ezio to the dead pan and serious Connor and the introduction to the new combat system were big turn offs. Oh and the story spoiler of what happens to Desmond as well. But personally I liked it. It was the glitchyness of the game for me at the time. I beat it, but I never really completed it 100%. Black Flag came out after I think, and pretty much did what AC3 failed to do and did it in spades. Then everyone basically forgot about 3. It IS underrated, and I’ve heard great things about the remastered version. I’ve still yet to play it. Maybe I will again. But I’m enjoying Ghost of Tsushima too much right now. Lol.

I have A LOT of problems with AC3, is not a bad game, but is one of the least favorites for me, for various reasons: 1-The story: the game centers too much about the american revolution. A lot of missions were recreations of battles or important events. Connor's story feels very secondary in my opinion (and centered too much in him pursuing Charles Lee). The game is not about an assassin in the American Revolution, is a game about the American revolution with the most boring main protagonist of the franchise pasted in all the important events for some reason. I prefered the AC Unity aproach, the game happens during the French Revolution and Arno witnesses some of the most important events of that period, but he only indirectly participates in them (for example, he doesn't attack the Bastille, he was imprisoned in the Bastille during the attack). His actions practically doesn't have any effect in the events, the other way around, the events of the revolution affects Arno's story, the game is about Arno, not the revolution. 2-Connor: like I said is the most boring protagonist. Being a native american is the only interesting thing about him but that aspect is practically only explored during the prologue. A second problem with him is that he is used by everyone: Juno, the revolutionaries, Washington, his father, the templars, even the assassins. He has an obsession with Charles Lee that by the end of the game doesn't make sense, because the main reason of his hate (the attack of his village) was not Charles Lee's fault, was Washington's. And he literally accomplish nothing of his actual goals. The only thing it achieves is tipping the balance of power on the side of the american assassin's, and giving the victory to the colones (but Haytham revealed that the templars also wanted the victory of the colones, but in their terms) but those were not his objectives, he wanted to save his people, and but the end of the game they all abandon their land and travel the west anyways. And worst of all, the americans will eventually destroy them and their culture so, giving them them the victory in the war was a mistake. Connor was a fool. 3- The prologue: Is too long, and when it ends and you start playing with Connor you realized how much better and interesting was Haytham. 4-The way it closed the present storyline: I will always be one of the defenders of the present storyline and the way it resolved in AC3 practically killed that storyline for the rest of the franchise (until the RPG trilogy). 5-The bugs: Unity have is the one known for this but in my opinion after the patches you can play the game without any major problem. AC3 instead even after all the patches most of the side activities are bugged. There are a lot of bugs that can make the 100% of the game impossible. Only in AC3 and liberation I needed to abort complete the games because of a bug. But in liberation was a very well known bug and if you know it 's existence is easy to avoid. In AC3 were random bugs impossible to avoid because there is not known cause, are simply random, and happenned me twice, one in the original PS3 release, and one in the remastered PS4 version.

Most of ACIII's reputation mostly comes down to the polarizing shift in protagonist, imo. Taken on it's own, this game get a lot more right than it gets wrong, and it has always been one of my favorites in the franchise.

I beliveve the major flaw with Connor is that he had not awakened to being an Assassin, for imagine back in 2012 after playing Ezio, then to come to this guy who seems to only care about his people, that is the only motivation through the whole game, even when facing a mysterious hologram and only asking about the fate of his people and not giving a crap about anything relevant to the cause of the Assassins. Connor had a noble cause, yes, but for an AC game? Ezio may not have fully embraced the Creed first off but at least he accepted the way and fought for the assassins, I find Connor did not, he just used being an Assassin for his own gain, always asking the same question on repeat "What about my people."

I played both the original Ac3 and Remastered. The original ac3 was given to me for free by Ubisoft on Uplay (Ubisoft Connect). Idk why. i am among the very few who can still play the original ac3. The original has a gamebreaking bug where the horse whistle will disappear permanently if u replay old missions because it is given by Achilles but i think the flag only triggers once. in the remastered, it is alr there in the menu. One thing no one correlate is that Connor is a hunter and him as an Assassin is hunting humans. Also, he cannot stealth because he is too tall. Tall ppl can't really hide

I think people overlook the fact that Connor is very young in the game, he was 23 if i remember corectly, at the end of the game, he was literally a boy most of the time, probably because he looks 30/40 people criticize him that harsh for being naive.I wish they would have continued his story, i was hoping in Unity we would meet him again, helping Arno to find Shay.
@IronsideGeorge

Good point actually. He’s definitely very naive, but he’s lived a sheltered life, full of horror. It’s no wonder he’s a grumpy serious brute most of the time.

This one isn’t my favorite but it’s up there with AC2/Brotherhood, Black Flag and Unity. In fact, I like its story better than AC4 and Unity. Thats probably because I am from the US (Pennsylvania) and they did a really good job approximating the environment. I actually like it better than Rogue and Syndicate though TBH I’ve only played Origins once and none of the newer installments.

i havent beaten the game; but in my opinion. THE WORST THING in this game is where you have to "follow the npc and wait till they do something and then become "golden" and then you scan them". i think that was the dumbest shit they ever put in a game. can't even find the npc to finish off this one side quest. its dumb! but other than that. the game is very good.

parkour in ac 3 doesn't have less depth than previous games. The game fails to teach the intricate mechanics of this new system, also a lot of parkour mechanics are hidden in the game that are not mentioned anywhere. while it might feel different from previous entries it has it's own depth when it comes to movements. where it takes away some options from the previous entries it also adds several new options to make up for it.

As a gamer who has never played an AC game before but wants to, does every game include ridiculous bosses you have to fight that are 100 times bigger than you and annoying AF, or is that only in certain releases like Origins and Valhalla? I guess what I'm asking is, which modern day or remastered 60+ FPS versions of AC do not have unrealistic, gigantic fantasy villains?
