Like he said club gets more looks from big schools but that doesn't mean high school won't get you recruited. I just finished high school and I got recruited but I only played my freshman and sophomore year in high school then started going to a lot of showcases and ID camps. Yes those tend to be money makers for the college but just getting your name out there and showing what you can do is what can make a difference. I mostly just focused on doing what I do best and showing that off. Coaches want to see what your good at, at camps and showcases. Yes they'll see what needs work but everyone needs to improve somewhere. Another thing though is if you want to play. You must show interest in playing for that school. That means give the coach a call send them updates. Even if they don't respond. Just keep sending it if you really want to play there. The communication comes in to play a lot. Coaches can only talk to you after a certain point. But you can talk to them all you want it's just getting a response is what's tough. Just keep pushing and putting in work. Also don't slack on fitness a hard worker can beat out talent if the talent is lazy and cocky.

Saldy You have to "pay to play" in a club for youth football in the US? In other parts of the world it's called an Academy system where you pay to play. With an exception of a few outstanding youths who are taken in with a free scholarship. For a professional football club with a youth setup. The youth players are signed, trained for free and is paid a training allowance. A big club would even have dormitories for housing. My nephew in Singapore used to play for an Arsenal Academy (franchise) for free. Before he got signed for an U-15 S-League Div.1 club. The stipend he gets for each training session is enough to cover his cab ride back and forth.

Many of these ID camps are money makers for the coaches. Are the coaches looking at you? yes. They are hoping to find 1 or 2 out of the 50-200 that are there. Not trying to stomp out a dream, but make people aware that these are money makers. Ask your coach(es) for an objective assessment if he or she thinks you can play at the next level and if so what level, then shoot for a level above that for a stretch. If all goes well and you are really getting coaches attention then shoot a level above that. My son, who is told that he could be a D3 college level player, if he focuses and gets serious, gets 100's invites for camps. Most of these come from two tournements he played and none of the schools were at the tourneys. Tourneys sell lists. Just measure your expectations.

One of my family friends actualy got stuck in the airport with Austin FC MLS soccer. Hes sons play soccer for ecnl, highschool, and elite local clubs so he got alot of pictures and stuff. The main thing they said to him advice wise about soccer is highschool is the reason they got scouted in the first place. Alot of them did play for ODP, USYS reginol, and ecnl, but they said they did good in highschool and got scouted that way to great schools and then made mls. This is comin from a Surf player by the way so I have no bias, but i think highschool might be more important. idk

A bad club team would beat a good high school team. High school overall is NOT better than club. A lot of the times if you don't have the money to pay for tournaments and uniforms for club, people from the club would help out with the expenses. High school is less competitive than club
@jakegoodman23927 жыл бұрын
Uhmmm I think it depends on what high school you go to... Like at my high school all of the players except one plays high school and club soccer... And all of the players play for good club teams (basically all of us play for a team that is ranked in the top 10 for Virginia or Maryland). So our high school team would absolutely thrash bad club teams...

It depends on where you live. General consensus, Club over high school. If your high school is rubbish then you'll get no looks from college coaches even if you are a good player. College coaches want to see you play against the best possible opposition and see how you fair. Some lads do well in the high school set up but struggle at higher levels. Due to the fact that the coaching is low at the high school level, the players tactical and technical development is stunted during those months with the high school team. As we approach 2020, my advice is this, if your high school team is bang average and your coach is the science teacher, you better try and find a club that can give you a better chance.
@davidmanjarres69947 жыл бұрын
I think it depends in the area. I grew up in South Florida and most of my teammates and myself played both because we knew that college coaches were going to both and it the level of play there is really good so coaches are always looking there.

Hi coach Javi, i just came across your channel and i want to say that i am a big fan already and i myself am a coach and i love the topics you talk about such as this one. This is an important topic to me because I have a brother who just graduated HS and a sister that is an incoming junior in HS and they both want to play in college and play at a higher level. The reason I am really interested in this topic as well is because i have a cousin who played his freshman year in high school and ended the year being the starting goalie and one of the major players in the team and was getting attention from the media, but after that great season he had, he went and tried out for Chivas USA (when they were still around) and he made the team. So he had to choose between Chivas USA and HS soccer and he chose Chivas USA. He was there for about 4 years until the team and academy didn't exist anymore, he basically missed out in HS soccer. Unfortunately he didn't get scouted by anyone. I am the goalie trainer for my sister's HS soccer team for JV and Varsity and my advice for any students that want to get scouted is to play your hardest and give it your all in every game you play whether its Club or High School because you never know who will be in the stands watching, and even if a scout isn't there to watch you that doesn't mean the scout isn't paying attention to everyone else in that field.

As an adult I enjoy soccer, but I'm not sure I want to steer my son towards it. It seems that the time investment is much higher compared to other sports (esp in order to have a chance at the higher levels). I think part of that is just that soccer is an overall harder sport (more variables). For ex, I am 40 yrs old, and I've never played football. But I just played in a flag football league and within a few games I was the best scorer and had most interceptions on my team. I had the least experience (none). Now, if it were soccer I know there's no way a 40 yr old with no experience would be competitive after a few games. If you have speed and agility you can be decent in a football rec league. But soccer requires way more. I'm taking an objective look at all sports, assessing which one's are most sustainable and also will be a good fit for my kid (he's only 5 yrs old). I think soccer requires certain attributes that are different than other sports (for ex, height can be an asset in basketball but offers no real advantage for soccer). Also- if a kid's dream is a be a pro athlete, he may have a better shot at other, less crowded sports. For ex, this Matt Boling kid (record breaking runner in high school, look him up, he's amazing) - if Matt played soccer he would have a hard time standing out nationally. But since he's in track, he's already a star and will likely run in the Olympics someday which we know can be very lucrative as we've seen in Usain Bolt, who prob makes as much as the biggest soccer stars. Yes, the chances of getting to that level in any sport is slim, but I think it takes way more time investment to get to say the Premier League, than to get to the Olympics in track. Track requires more genetic intagibles (and of course a lot of development) but Soccer requires way more development (if you add the up the total hours required over an entire childhood). Also - to become an MLS or EPL player you must basically start around age 5 or so to even have a chance, which I think is very sad. In every other sport one could start much older and still get to the highest levels. Just my 2 cents. I'm analyzing all this stuff now for my kid.
@sebbypatino96887 жыл бұрын
I'm a player and I personally think that club is the more likely of getting recruited only because it's at more of a competitive level than high school and clubs probably have a better chance of being talked about

I go to a 6A school and we have some kids that can seriously play. One kid has a offer from boca juniors & a lot have numerous offers from colleges. It really depends on what level the clubs in your area are playing at & comparing that with your high school. If high school soccer is less Intense compared to club then play club. You won't get scouted out of high school if your high school sucks at soccer.

I have played for both club and high school, and would say that high School is ALOT better than club. Maybe if u reach a an elite expensive high leevl club the skill level would go up above high school, but not in my experience. It also could b that scouts scout clubs more often, but the actual skill level of school is significantly greater. I know someone who played for a high school who was scouted by some of the top colleges and other teams in the country.

Sometimes it depends on who the coaches know. I played for a low level club tiburones rojos de paramount but the owner knew people from Chivas USA and from pumas academy in San Bernardino. I was fortunate enough to join the pumas team on a trip to Mexico and play against the u17 Pachuca and pumas teams. We also got invited to Chivas USA to train with there u17. 3 of the younger kids including his son got scouted to play for Mexican teams. People often made fun of me for playing with them but I felt like they were a good enough team and we actually did things. So my advice is get to know the clubs around you and ask who they know talk to previous players from that club. Sometimes it's all about the people they know. If you're in the Los Ángeles area check out pumas Fresno soccer academy that man is a genius that has taken 3 players to Mexico and are with pumas first division and 2 at queretaro.

my opinion is, theres times where you have a club charging out the but, and make it seem they’re a high level club. cant say a bad club team can beat a high school team bc ive played against a club team with my high school friends and beat them really bad to the point we werent allowed back on their schedule. i myself was scouted into a D2 school out of high school, used my money to put myself in college camps and learn more about what the program is about than the simple basic stuff a club might teach you.

You should believe in yourself and accept their compliments. If you get nervous don't let it overwhelm you. Just let it do it's thing amd after a while you won't be so nervous anymore. My daughter is at her third club so far. She started out at a big club ( but only 2nd team), then met a great coach at a small club and moved there. Now she has followed that coach over to another big club. She has also spent her freshman year playing varsity for a high school that regularly makes playoffs with a college coach at the helm. High school play ( at least at this school) is about winning-not player development. As a parent I'm looking for a coach to teach and nurture the talent my daughter has. Look carefully at the particular coaching agenda. Educate yourself. Watch games and listen to how that coach interacts with the players. Does he/She only care about winning (their ego)? Does the coach play favorites? Does the coach shame players for mistakes and create a climate of fear and divisive behavior? Is the coach proactive about YOU getting seen? Do they take you to showcases and big tournaments? Or do they just turn you loose on the field and collect their paycheck while you play keep away for hours?

It really *depends.*-in the context of where you live etc. In my situation, the coach I was introduced to has such an arrogant and stubborn mindset to the point where every game they play they lose by 4+ goals. He has a high reputation for coaching the girls, but how he coaches the boys is not disciplined enough to the point where they do their own things which led to their loses. The players have so much potential-like literally...they're very advanced-, but how the coach setups the plays and technicality of the game is just not right. Also, his relationships with each player is non-existent. Not only that, it's very expensive here in America for any type of club where even the best can't get recognized and it shows. You may not see any high school players get scouted, but you surely won't see America be in the World Cup, nonetheless...win. On the other side, my high school coach is very coachable to every player and I see significant improvement from even beginners. We almost won state and won multiple tournaments and scrimmages. We couldn't have done it without our high school coach actually knowing what he's doing on and off the field. Not only that, we only have to pay $75 for the whole school year. Most importantly, I actually had fun and I felt challenged. All I can say is, you can do both or one of the other if you see it as beneficial or not.

If the goal is to be recruited by a COLLEGE, the High school soccer should be played by all players at the youth level. USSDA should create a schedule around high school schedules. This is America not Europe

That's completely incorrect. College coaches rarely come to high school games. Why? Because the level is almost always lower, the coaching IS always lower and that college scout can see a larger portion of skilled players at club events. High school soccer can be an injury fest, too, if you have meatball players that don't participate in comp. So your statement is the exact opposite of what's fact.

@@shlepmessing8703 it’s lower because all the top kids don’t play. No top level coach wants to coach a bunch of football players trying to kick a ball either. I personally feel for soccer to crow, the make to make accessible to everyone, the only way to do that is for all kids to play in school. At all levels not just high school

I play club and high school and have played club for 7 years now, I'm in my 2nd year of high school and played on the school team both years. I'm also 16 and have been playing up for 3 years and handle myself really well against the older girls. What age do you normally start to get looked at for scouting? Should I send highlight videos out? (I play center back/any defensive position/center mid/any mid position, so I normally dont score goals) How would I make a highlight video for my position? Is there anything I can do to draw attention to myself to get looked at? Sorry for all the questions but I'm really would like to know because soccer is my passion and I really want to go somewhere with it.
