Man thanks so much for saying that and for the support! I made this KZbin in 2006 with the goal of making a Star Wars channel and finally took the plunge a couple weeks ago and I'm so glad I did! It's been so great to connect with other Star Wars fans and trust me brother I plan to bring a ton more content! I just started capturing gameplay for the next retrospective, Jedi Academy, I have a new series of shorts I'm going to start releasing Monday, US states as Star Wars locations, and I want to do a fun video this week of just relaxing, having a drink, and watching/reviewing the Star Wars Holiday Special which I've actually never seen lol! @@BosskTheHunter still does. AI squad mates to this day are over all more competent than huge swaths of contemporary "squad based shooters" Makes me wonder what the golden age of Lucas arts dev teams could do with modern tech TBH

It's *Almost* never worth using the stealthy entry over getting a free grenade the loud way.

There's a few parts where if you stealth enter you can avoid turning on the automated turrets but yeah outside of that there aren't a ton of uses.

I remember beating this game in 2 evenings after school and having such a blast with it that I never forgot it since. The soundtrack sure helped, but I was beyond sold on the atmosphere and style of it, and I'm honestly almost surprised I did so well in it looking back at it now, given I wasn't really good at shooters and just came in for cool Star Wars clone fightan action. Even I found it sorta tough but fair. Interestingly, though I agree the end is clearly cut short way too unceremoniously and the game could stand to have more levels, I still think it unintentionally worked out in an interesting way. The disjointed way it goes between major locations feels like it mirrors the experience of the clones, thrown from birth into a chaotic and bewildering galactic war and deployed to goodness knows where to do their best - and the way each location consists of several levels still tells a complete coherent story within each, feeling like a real deployment operation. Likewise, the abrupt, jarring ending feels like it hammers home that same "dark, realistic take on the Clone Wars" atmosphere - the expendability of your clone comrades, even the best and most advanced ones, and the uncaring and cold way their lives are handled by the Republic, as mere battle thralls, effectively a slave army. Furthermore, with the last level being Kashyyyk, it felt like things were canonically just before Order 66 was given - I was waiting for the final shots of the game being the squad getting notified by their mission control that the order was given before a cut to black/credits. It would've fit in perfectly with that gritty and hardcore style of the game. I'll say, though, that I don't think it goes against the grain of Star Wars as a universe - it manages to preserve its flashier and prettier sides and simply fills in the darker, less glamorous "elite grunt" eye view. The realism of its level design and voice-based "environmental" storytelling helps a lot there. Star Wars is a lot darker than it's often perceived to be if one so much stops as to think about some aspects of it, and I feel Republic Commando fits in perfectly there tone-wise.

Thanks for the comment brother and I completely agree with your take! I love when Star Wars is presented in a darker, more gritty way and Commando absolutely nails that! I'm like you though I have ZERO clue how I beat this as a kid lol! That was back in the days when you got a game though and that was the only game you had to play until the next holiday or birthday or whatever so I guess it was just dedication lol!

Fantastic video yet again! Would enjoy hearing your thoughts on the Jedi knight games. Idk if you ever heard of a mod for Jedi knight Academy called movie battles 2. It is a multiplayer mod and still has a active player base. I highly recommend it. It has a steep learning curve but the variety of maps, skins and play styles is unmatched by any Star Wars game. Again awesome video! The scorekeeper would be pleased. Can’t wait for the next one.

Republic Commando was the bomb! I finally beat it on the hardest difficulty sometime last year. I normally don’t push myself to do that with games, but I’m glad I managed it. “Form up, Deltas!”

@@BosskTheHunter in one word, EXPLOSIVES! To be a little more elaborate, I believe the secret to my success was effective use of explosives and tactical positioning. The tactical positioning setups allow the squad to pop out their better weapons with infinite ammo. I spent more time on just one of the turreted hallways on the Prosecutor vs the Droid Coreship, IIRC. Pretty sure a full playthrough on hard took me about 12 hours, adding in all the time lost to deaths!

I never had a chance to play these games as a kid, so I've been trying some old games this year in 2024. I personally loved this one and currently I've started Kotor.

Trandoshans also drop the Arakyd LJ-50 Concussion Rifle, but the Conc rifle in this is really bad compared to even Jedi Academy which was itself worse than Jedi Knight/Mots, which was itself worse (But more actually possible seeming) than the Conc rifle in Dark Forces 1 which magically shot everything on screen. It does LOOK cool, if a bit too glowy, and does have the shock bayonet which can chainstun SBDs.

They do but going through my gameplay I only picked it up once and never even fired it because it really is a garbage weapon in this game, which like you said is really unfortunate considering how awesome it has been in the past!

@@BosskTheHunter It's okay against swarms of b1s but too slow to hit trandoshans and too weak against the bigger droids. BUT it's *frustratingly* good as a Melee weapon, making it hard to justify dropping when it can chain stun a B2.

In all honesty the gunplay is kinda ass with the main weapon expescially, and givne you're given only one slot for fun alien guns which you often have to waste on one of the more boring guns with common ammo, is a real let-down. The squad controls are bad, Rainbow Six Vegas probably hit the exact right level for squad controls on a more action focused shooter which this missed.

Thanks for the comment man! I don't personally think they're "ass" but there's no doubt that they don't feel as impactful as they should and it's even worse when you pair it with how bullet spongey the enemies tend to be throughout the game.
