My first video digging into the power of the Dresden Files series from a reader perspective. I'm planning eventually to do a 'Making the Dresden Files' where I cobble together Jim Butcher points into a timeline/trajectory talk. Hope you enjoy and this helps some people find this awesome series!

Your about the 4th person that says the earlier books were not as good, but they introduce you to Harry Dresden and let you know this is a world were anything could happen. Within the first couple books I felt like I knew Harry Desden. The whole series was done masterfully.

Fair point, while I enjoy the series overall the earlier books are absolutely weaker material. That's not to say they are bad, and a lot of people who read the series enjoy it as a whole, but there are certainly many who are turned off by the earliest books.

Thanks, I’m glad it was useful. Great great series, the RPG was well made and fun, the source material even more so. I have Blood Rites in editing now!

i'm srry but wow your are wrong dead beat isn't the one to start with . Dead beat -90% of people will tell u that it's the best in the series also that in the rest of the series no other book comes close to to hitting those highs again . Starting with dead beat is would just wreck any series expectations .

Jim Butcher himself planned Dead Beat as an entry point as it was the first hardback at release. Would it be better earlier? Absolutely, that's my point in the video. But if you have 1 book to win someone over, the early books are not a good shot, esp. in the wider world where it's hard to get someone reading at all. Agree it is one of my favs, Sue is one the greatest action moments on paper!

@@badgerdad6690 well i see why Jim butcher would want to highlight his best work , but i would say start from the begin , the 1st books while not as technically smooth as the latter books they have charm and soul . So i would start recommend the with the cavoite that it only gets better , much like disk world .
