I am 76 and was my wife's full time carer with MS for 26 years. She has recently passed. I had pneumonia and a heart attack towards the end of her life as a result of the stress of the long term carer role. I have been walking about 11,000 steps a day for some years as recorded on my Fitbit and it certainly helps. I carefully maintain my goal weight of 75kg.

Oh, and about the step counters, I don't understand why people wear them on their wrist. YOU DON'T WALK ON YOUR HANDS. In my line of work, we push wheelchairs and carry food trays, therefore out arms aren't swinging and the steps are NOT being counted. I wear my fit bit around my ankle. I refuse to miss those steps 😂

Me too actually. When I walk anywhere. It’s on my wrist. But when I am doing the walking, I wear it on my ankle
@colleenwebster87625 ай бұрын
I do wear it on my wrist and I push strollers or grocery carts and carry babies a lot of the time. I do believe wearing it on my wrist reduces its accuracy.

I walk 25,000 steps three days a week. I working an industry where I am on my feet for 11 hours plus I walk home after work which is approximately two and half miles from my work. I absolutely love walking and cannot get enough of it. Walking home is mostly uphill which is even better for me. I have lost two stone, I feel young, I look slimmer and most importantly I feel healthy. Glad I decided to take the leap and change my lifestyle. I will keep walking and eat less. Try it and see your own results you will be amazed. Will never join a gym don't care how good the equipment looks never joining a gym walking is free, the fresh air is free too.

I like doing 11,000 steps a day. It is relaxing and invigorating, and I'm losing fat. On two days a week I replace the long walk with a very steep 1km walk on steps up a mountain, and down again - it's hard, but it really is strengthening my heart, legs, knees, glutes, and lungs, and my agility. I want to build a foundation of strength to carry me into old age.

I was diagnosed with a gastrointestinal issue in the back end of February and it’s been a real wake up call to make some lifestyle changes. Since then I’ve been walking daily and made some changes to my diet. I was already doing about 10k steps at work, so I was seeking to match that on my days off. I try to go for a walk first thing so that I can get a good 4500 steps (approx 40min) before I’ve had a chance to think about it. The rest of the daily steps usually comes from incidental steps around the home or when I need to go to the shops etc. Some days I go for an additional afternoon walk, and other days I do a little yoga, Pilates, or light aerobics. I haven’t weighed myself, but since that diagnosis and the changes I’ve made I’m slimmer around my torso, and my jeans are feeling looser all round.

I know for me, 10,000 steps was a magic bullet for weight loss, along with getting into ketosis. Added alittle wt training for total fat loss of 40 lbs. and gained 10 lbs. of muscle. At 56 yrs old, I think thats pretty good.

I'm a PSW and at work we easily get between 14,000 to 16,000 on a normal day. I did get over 17,000 at work the other day, but the most was 21,000 😱 Yes, in an 8 hour work day. But yet most of us are overweight or unhealthy. As the saying goes, YOU CAN'T OUT WORK A BAD DIET.

10,000 steps are just the minimum required daily steps. Of course the more steps you do beyond this 10,000 steps the better but as long as you hit the 10,000 steps mark everyday you are doing what is required to live a long and healthy life.

You have a very good demeanor when getting your info across. I am 50, and usually end up with 10-12k steps per day. I do various other workouts throughout the week as well (my weeks consist of weights 4x, 1 hour of shadow boxing, 1 hour of boxing on the heavy bag, 1 hour of sparring per week). But with that said, it's my morning walk that makes or breaks my day, whether mentally or physically.

Nice video. In Japanese, the base is 10^4, 10^8, 10^12 Instead of 10^3, 10^6, 10^9, 10^12. So 10k steps isn’t just a round number, it’s a very round number, like thousand or million. Studies done here more recently show benefits up to 8-12k steps daily. After that, fatigue plays a role. 10k is 5 miles or roughly 8 kilometers. At a decent pace that’s roughly 100 minutes, which makes it easier to break up, as in 8 minutes/hour for 12 hours, but it usually ends up as 20 minute chunks after eating.

Would you recommend run/walk intervals as a good health/weight loss strategy?
@DynamicRunningFitness Жыл бұрын
Hi Brian. As a runner (and this is predominantly a running channel) I will always recommend running as an activity for health and fitness generally speaking. But one must bear in mind that running, particularly those that may not be used to it, will increase stress levels in the body and as it is higher intensity then you are more likely to burn quick access sugar rather than fat. My overall opinion would be to incorporate run/walk sessions in a weekly fitness routine that also contains lots of just walking. That way you'll reap the benefits of both worlds.

Great video. Just want to comment, that like most things in life, it's not just about hitting basic targets (i.e. no of steps). It's the quality. For example, a brisk walk for 20-30 mins, at 3 miles per hour, and a good steps per minute of 120+ is much better than a slow plod
