So far I have had great success resealing tanks, but I understand that it only feasible if you really get a great deal on the tank to begin with. Free usually been the greatest motivator to do so. Although in al fairness I have done anything larger than a 75 gallon.

Yeah a 75 gallon is fine in my opinion. I’d say 125 and up, just stay away. UNLESS you’re seasoned with it.

I think that $20-30 vs $1000 is definitely worth trying it. I mean, if you can tie your own shoes, you can reseal a tank. I don't get it.

Completely agree. Saying that - if it’s your first reseal on such a large aquarium, I would’ve rather of gotten a professional or someone more experienced to at least assist.

@Aquarium Talk TV Most definitely. You have to have the comfort level to cover all your bases and if you don't have a place to test the tank without having to worry about damaging your living space then you need to get that extra assurance from using professional help. That being said, I'm all for taking calculated risks.

The issue is they have to make sure the leveling done properly, but most people will let them cure for about two weeks. I did get my 300 and my 700 gallon. You just can’t be in a rush to add water in it and threw it in a warm area.

About to redo the silicone on a secondhand 5-6 year old 45 frameless. It came with a stand which is the main reason we bought it. It came with other stuff too. Nervous, but gonna try it. Some areas of the silicone algae got underneath it well, some areas really pealed, so there is no ignoring it. Bottom seals look pretty good, so planning on cutting any loose pieces and then touch up with silicone for it. First time siliconing a tank. If it doesn't work out, guess we'll buy a new aqueon cube frameless. $250 for the stand that was normally $400+ isn't bad, plus it came with a plant light that's like $150 and other stuff like a lid and canister. Granted the canister replacement parts are discontinued, but the impeller looks good on it. The person who had all of it did stay on top of routine cleaning.

I kinda agree. I wont re seal anything over 75 gallons. To risky. Unless it was used for something else where it doesn’t hold the whole volume of water. Cheers

I have actually done a ton of research regarding silicone as I have bought a 70 gallon that was in really really rough shape and decided to just redo it, and the silicone that you chose is actually one of the lower on the list when it comes to silicone qualities. I know when you go online and look around, everyone just says to use the ge silicone 1, but that actually is only the case for smaller tanks, something around 1-50 gallons it also holds no form of guarentee also the current ge silicone 1 has a 0.5 percent of mold inhibitors and isnt actually made by ge, what your actually looking for is scs 1200 it holds a life time guarantee, it's a purer and stronger form of pure silicone, it is recommended for anything over 50 gallons also it is more of a industrial grade so you have to special order it you can't just find it any where I'm also live in canada in bc area and had to get it from I think dw hardware in the states.

I'm not going to lie 1000 bucks for a $ 9000 tank. It was deffinetly worth the risk. If you do find you have issues and have to redo the seal, get the good silicone.

Here's the thing though. A tank can be resealed just like it was originally sealed. So I still don't understand why you say don't do it, but you did it on a very large tank. Most people will do it on much smaller tanks. So I have to disagree. But do it properly and then test it properly. Maybe test it outdoors if possible.

Interesting. I resealed my 100 gallon and it held good for about a month, then a slow leak developed in the rear. So I’m debating on redoing it.

I’m attempting a 2nd try Curious when you resealed your tank does the bottom glass have any kind of bottom flex? I just got my tank empty to inspect and I noticed there’s some bottom flex and there’s water under the seal. I could have possibly done a bad seal job, when I push down on the bottom glass I see air bubble come from the silicone.

@@hookedonfishing2095 that’s a pinhole leak as it seeps out so slowly put some thin paper around the bottom and check Regularly, you probably won’t see the water stain, but the paper will feel a little bit damp because it comes out that slow the water on the towel, dries up
