I went to uofc and I am not a big fan of the institution. Its way too disjointed. There is less sense of community and was very isolating. I have lived in Alberta for 15 years

Heey, I wanted to ask about your opinion on social life at the uni? I´m from Berlin and the student life here is pretty amazing, it´s not even that the school is organizing stuff for students, but the people themselves are very active in socializing and creating events, the city is full of techno events, student pubs or cafe on every corner, underground culture, parks are full of young (and wild, hah) people skating, biking, drinking and studying. Even though social life is pretty wild and bohemian here, everyone mostly manages to do stuff for the school, which is quite hard in Germany. I should have gone to the University of Washington, but covid - they canceled it even this fall, so I have a chance to attend the fall semester in Calgary. I have been there once a long time ago. I dunno what to expect of the social life there, I´m honestly more of a let´s say "Portland, Eugene Oregon or LA California" type of student, but i definitely want to give Calgary a chance. Thaanks if you read it all and for your energy :)

the city is okay. i’ve lived here for my whole life and i love it, but we have a lot of issues (especially given the current economic and job crisis). transit is pathetic and there’s a lot of tension now that jason kenney is in power. the people are great! we are conservative but in my experience it’s easy to find people that share your beliefs and our younger generation is much more diverse. however, if you’re not from here it might be difficult to find people given that the university isn’t enormous.

This is just a average or little bit above average school. The only advantage for UofCalgary is it’s easier to launch a job but not guaranteed very descent job in the city of Calgary. Currently, Alberta’s economics is not as before and it’s not that easy to find job in Calgary

I'm a junior at a small island in Japan and I really want to major in Communication and Media Studies in University of Calgary. My school has American curriculum. Do I need to take both the SAT and the TOFEL in order to pass the requirements? Or just the SAT.

you need to take toefl for english requirements. Its not necessary to take SAT, but its better to send them SAT if your scores are really good, so they might qualify you for scholarship or just push you towards acceptance.
