For me I play clarinet normally so I’m thinking to do alto saxophone and this really helps for me!

Now I got my answers. The true issue I've got is money. This thing costs my left lung. The reason I want to play it is that I find it to be a funny instrument, and I can totally see myself play silly tunes with goofy sunglasses.

You do really good job , congrats. what should be practiced every day what kind of articulation exercises you prefer ?

If there’s one thing you should work on every day, it would be your tone. Long tones and overtone exercises would be the thing to do.

@@AllenMusicTalk have you heard the song "how dare you want more"- by bleachers? It's a great song with such a jump worthy ending. It's what inspired me to try and get into saxophone. What do I need to do and what do I need to buy before buying to sound like the guy in the song?

I kinda like to sing, but I suck at it and no way I would ever want to have someone listen to my voice. but mostly: singing takes words and one can't really improvise with singing because of it. That's why I'm checking out the sax. I play a little piano and I just jumped into learning music theory and improvising - mostly blues scales since those are (or seem to be) fairly easy. call me odd, but I don't really care that much to play songs. I want to 'just play', ideally. Anyway. nice video. bit of a (small) downer that the notes aren't called the same on the two instruments.

How many years did it take you to get to a good performing standard?
@AllenMusicTalk2 жыл бұрын
I’ve been playing since 2003, and my oldest KZbin videos were made in 2009. You can see the progress over time here: bit.ly/3TzQtPH

Thanks, I got my first laptop with internet and a webcam in 2009, which is why I started then. It may have happened earlier if I had the technology faster.

@@AllenMusicTalk That's actually encouraging. I played from 8 years old until my early twenties when I stopped (work, college etc was just too busy). I finally picked it up again in 2020 and it drives me crazy that I'm nowhere near as good as I was when I stopped playing before, but it's only been two years, and life still gets in the way so I don't get to practice nearly as much as I did in highschool.

I'm a multi-instrumentalist I'm thinking about adding saxophone to the list of instruments I play. My only issue is the fact that the instrument is pretty loud. So when I practice I know the neighbors may be bothered by it. Any suggestions?

Saxophone is not that easy to play. I don't know why everyone thinks it is. It takes a lot of time getting use to dealing with just the reed. Finger control and the list goes on and on. Not to say It's impossible but get ready to put a lot of time into the instrument and by all means, take professional lessons.

Yes, you should play saxophone. Learning "Music Theory" causes mental illness, but if you play saxophone no one can tell.
