Hello and welcome, today we take a look at how the 7950X3D has aged since its release, and going over the level of performance it offers both in games and for a video creator.
PS: 7000X3D CPU's run better on windows 10, so if you have any issues with your cpu's performance...switching back to windows 10 might help!
I also recommend fully uninstalling your chipset drivers, and just using prefer cache in BIOS and Process Lasso to control your cpu!

I am so happy with my 7950X3D on my Asus X670E-E Strix. No process lasso ! Last chipset drivers , last bios and game bar and everything perfect. My sample is SP112, SP102 on cache CCD and SP122 on frequency CCD. And CO very agressive, full stable. I have a golden sample. Thanks AMD !

Hello guys! Hope you enjoyed. Let me know what your overall experience has been with the 7950X3D if you have one, and also let me know if you are considering to get one of the X3D cpu's or will be waiting for next gen! PS: At 8:23 I said that the CPU usage is between 10-20% while rendering, its actually 10-40% as you can clearly see in the footage, I made a typo in script and did not see it until video was uploaded!

im using the 7950x3d and a 4090 as well. im operating just with pbo co -15 on all cores and use game bar like amd intended. I have no issues at all. games get recognized automatically to this point. and honestly it works like a charm
@Beefy-Tech
@Beefy-Tech Жыл бұрын
If everything works as intended that's great 👍 I run lasso due to the fact I can select to not use core 1 (threads 0 and 1) and those threads get hit by windows tasks most, so I'll often run threads 2-15 only for gaming. In cod it doesn't make much of a difference but for games like valorant or Rainbow 6 siege it actually helps quiet a bit to avoid that 1 core that's really congested.🙌
@AndyU96
@AndyU96 Жыл бұрын
@@Beefy-Tech How about uncongesting that core by setting CPU affinity (CPU sets would be better) for everything 16-31, and then setting 0-15 for handful of games you want? You'd have to buy Pro for the CPU sets feature though
@Beefy-Tech
@Beefy-Tech Жыл бұрын
@@AndyU96 yeah the only reason I don't use sets is due to the paid aspect of it. If I recommend lasso to friends or customers I didn't want them to have to pay for an app for their cpu to work so I tried to keep all the setup process free. I've already tried setting frequency ccd as the preffered ccd but when jd run it like that the system would feel sluggish, and gaming performance would drop. My assumption as to why that us, is because windows tasks running off of a different ccd then the games may actually be incurring that big latency spike as data gets shifted between both CCD's. I haven't personally gotten it to work well so I am not sure if it's a better or worse alternative, but yeah, that's been my experience with it.

Hi Beefy and thx for all your valuable inputs on your uploads man! You and Fr33thy are the only 2 youtubers that have gained my Trust when it comes to balanced tuning (undervolt/overclock) and equivelant performance gains. Having said that i did buy a new gaming rig and i made a desision to buy previous gen since it would be the one to have for the next couple of years and i wasnt interested for any further upgrading. My project was simple> Max out my Alienware aw2723df 1440p 280hz monitor on all games for the LEAST amount of money. My gut and my instinct drew me and my final choise of parts where this> Msi B550 Tomahawk (updated to latest Bios), 5800x3D @ 1.140v (undervolted with PBO2 tuner -28 all cores since the mem latency was better than pre-undervolt and even better than -30 all cores), good Bdie ram i already had from previous system that i bought in 2018 Gskill 16gb (2x8) 3600Hz cl15-15-15-36 @1.35v, Gigabyte rtx 4090 Gaming Oc @ 0.950v undervolted with Custom curve and max power set to 70% and im blown with 0% noise and 0% coil whine (max watt consumption pre-undervolt was 540watt and after custom curve 280watt, even my previous rtx 3080 ASUS TUF Oc was consuming more lol), 2TB (2x1TB) Samsung 980Pro M2 Nvme, Corsair Hx1000i Platinum 80+ PSU with custom cable for GPU, Lian Li Lancool 3 Case tho my previous system had your case, Unifan Lian Li extra fans and Arctic Liquid Freezer II 360 placed on top of the case with all front and bottom fans intake and all top and back fans exhaust. All i can say is Im blown away from the performance capping my 280hz monitor at 1440p while i capped both cpu and gpu at 70% of max power, while the system noise / acoustics / coil whine are 0%, while max tempratures when gaming are 49C Gpu / 49C Cpu its like i have a mini freezer next to me and Max Watt consumption I ever measured was 70watt Cpu / 280watt Gpu. All that at the cost of 3.109e here in my country (EU) When the equivelant 7800x3D platform would cost me 4.285e. I couldn't be happier!! :)

@@kostistsiutras4373 hey fam, I mean you can hire me to do it but sadly it'll just be trial and error on your side mostly, even if I improve it ull most likely have to run tests on your own anyway cause it takes days on end to tune your ram properly. You've already gotten a decent tune in, so all that's left is the finish touches in terms of put in a smaller number and pray it stays stable xD. As a fair note, be careful with tuning Bdie as it has some timings you shouldn't go below a theoretical minimum limit, because it won't become unstable, but it'll lose performance if you go below that limit. Your TRAS should be your - TCL + TRCD, no lower then that. And your TRC should be TRP + TRAS. I had those set too low and later found out through googling that they were below my minimum limit, therefore hurting performance of the 5800x3d.

Ehm jumping the gun a little bit as I sit and await my computer parts to be delivered. Anyway, I'm hanging out on your channel cuz I got a 7950X3d, Asrock Taichi (w/ Crossfire?) and a Asrock Taichi Radeon RX7900xtx, and 7200mhz DDR5. Trying to maximize my HTC VIVE Cosmos Elite and Pro2 sets. My ViewSonic projector does 240hz! My 1000w PS is also rated for Crossfire. I thought Crossfire was dead. Seems is on a PCIe Gen5 board too, is Crossfire making a comeback? I also have a RX6700xt if I could fit it in the case too if that is the "case" Crossfire is coming back.. Are my hopes for Crossfire misplaced? This new hardware is something else. My last beast machine was DEC Alpha 1200 (was found in a dumpster with quite a few others behind a large software manufacturer. Ahh the good ol' days!). The Alpha 1200, ran RedHat9, with Unreal Tournament 2004. I also used the machine as a seat for my desk, and a space heater. You could blow a disk in your back if you are not careful moving that around. This 7950X3d is quite impressive. Tried to email ya for a consult, don't work, just says "Submit". Website is for owners and content contributors. IDK what that means (old school) but don't have a login either. This machine is indicative of my personal investment into sim racing and streaming, I also got a Moza wheel system. It's cheaper than getting a degree and my head reprogramed. (Not something ya want to do at my age.😁) I'll try that Discord thing.. peace

I've heard I should get at least 64GB for video editing. I could imagine a ram disk would work well as temp folders. I'm on the market for serious setup and this7950x3d shows up as most serious over all player. For example power source rating is very low and thus mobo life expectancy can be higher. My rig should last more than 10 years so option to change mobo is the most important. With Intel 13900K which otherwise would be optimal for video editing there is possible 500W peak and no more motherboards later available. For 7950x3d I can buy extra spare mobo like 3 years from now.

Great kit, I highly recommend it👍 My motherboard is an Asrock X670E steel legend, but you don't have to get this specific motherboard, infact I'd recommend an MSI mobo over it, but it's still a fine asrock board, just had some annoying bugs with bios with it. My cpu cooler us a ghetto coolermaster Flux with 3 extra slim fans, again, I don't really recommend it xD Arctic 360mm coolers are much better👍 The 4090 is great, no coil whine and looks good but doesn't overclock well. It's an Inno 3d Ichill 4090 450watt power limit.

The problem isn't the CPU itself. The V-3d Cache on dual CCD chips is very new, and I think Windows scheduling can't tell the difference between the CCDs. The same problem occurs with intel's P-core E-core tech, which is why disabling E-cores boosted performance in games. It's going to be a while before the software side of things catch up with the hardware advancements

To a certain degree, If there's a load tied to the game on both CCD's than it's bad, so you can't put steam on a separate ccd then the games as the games would be running off steam. But you can put chrome/icue/Razer Synapse/tasks that games don't run off without much performance loss at all👍

No pbo is unable to damage the cpu, and the only thing that setting limits to mobo does is unlock power limit, but given this cpu is so efficient it'll never draw even close to its normal default limits. Soc voltage is the only voltage that you should worry about, make sure that's set to 1.25-1.3 max.

7800x3d is a solid option, and but 5800x3d is not bad either. Ull gains about 20-25% performance from the 5800x3d upgrade over a 5900x. And about 25-30% performance uplift going from 5800x3d to the 7800x3d. Means if you go from 5900x to 7800x3d ud see upwards of 50%+ gains, so it'll be more expensive, but huge huge gains in warzone, and ull likely nearly max out the 7900xtx.

@@Beefy-Tech It's incredible that it does not work as it should. All drivers etc are installed. And I even added BF 2042 manually to the Game Bar after I saw that it used all cores. That did not do anything.

@@nossy232323 yup. The AMD official method doesn't work well. I run a completely user made method, which depends on setting your preffered ccd to prefer cache, then using Process Lasso to assign background tasks to second ccd, and assigning games to first 3D cache ccd manually too just to be safe. But once you do that, it works great, just wish AMD would be more open about the proper way to set up their own cpu😂

@@Beefy-Tech curious why not set to prefer frequency cores and manually set games to cache? seems that would be less work as you would have more background tasks to set to frequency than games to set to cache. - but I am a novice with this new 7000x3d series so xD

@@Malathier I tried, several times actually but the system would feel slugish, and performance dropped drastically in games for some reason. My assumption is that when windows runs of frequency ccd, there is a big latency penalty introduced to running games on the other ccd. Essentially, it just didn't run as well or as simply... so I stuck with prefer cache as It ran well as is lol.

Can you pass Aida 64 SHA3 benchmark with your negative PBO offset? I am willing to bet you cant. I had to get my 7950x3d RMA because it couldnt even pass thet test at stock eettings. I don't recommend anyone to copy anyones settings for PBO. These CPUs are extremely sensitive to voltage and heat. Unless you are an extreme over clocker and have a proper custom loop I don't think it will be worth your time. Your system will have instabilities that wont present themselves easily and then after several months or years you could have a full system crash, your motherboard or cpu could die and you could lose your data. These chips arent as easy to undervolt and overclock as youtubers would lead you to believe. I regret building my system with AMD instead of intel this time. Constant issues since I built my system.

I can only pass Sha 3 with -5 on 2 best cores, and -20 on rest of the cores, have recently tested that, and yes, undervolts don't copy over ofcourse. Everyone would have to individually test their own cpu undervolts.

@@RyhtymFiend I've seen some people pass with higher undervolts too, but on mine Sha 3 needs 2 best cores on 5 or less, core 3 on 10, and rest of the cores between 15-22. Essentially if my 2 best cores are above 5 by even 2mv, it'll crash the PC instantly though😂

@@Beefy-Tech It's because I included an IMGUR link, albeit with spaces to try and work around the link sensor. My comment basically said that if you need process lasso, something is not quite setup right. Whenever I introduce Process Lasso with my 7950X3D, performance goes down. Largely due to it waking up the second CCD (as we assign some apps to the second CCD following your advice) and this hurts overall performance in my experience. I then provided some links to my testing of MW2 benchmark with Process Lasso on vs off, and off is better in CPU and GPU average / 1% low fps.

@@TheMattB81 the way I've set it up has shown to be most effective for most people I have spoken with. The method I use doesn't even need to sleep cores, and infact works perfectly because there's no cross contamination of ccd's in the Workloads as a result of forcing background tasks on second ccd that are fully unrelated to the games you are playing, and the games you are playing have the 3D cache forced onto them. I actually lose performance when I disable 1 ccd and don't use it as a background task CCD. If you'd like to test my method just to see if it indeed works, I run the CPU as follows. Prefer Cache in BIOS, Undervolt, ram tune, 89 TJ max, both ccd's enabled. Chipset drivers fully uninstalled, Power Plan set to highest performance, Hardware Accelarated GPU scheduling OFF, Nvidia driver 531.61. Process lasso games to threads 2-15 Background tasks like RGB App, Razer Synapse and Cortex on thread 16-31. I mean ofc if yours works perfectly fine, you don't have to go through this whole upside down setup, but this is how I've found I can guarantee maximum performance in every single game out there with no question about if CPU is working as intended.

@@Beefy-Tech I wish you could see my results using the stock method vs your method, but alas the KZbin gods won't allow it. Your method incurs a latency penalty on the CPU by keeping the second CCD awake. My method keeps CCD1 asleep for most games, with most work taking place on CCD0. This gives the best overall performance in my testing and I copied your settings exactly in the process lasso setup video. If the CPU utilisation is high enough, one or more cores on the second CCD will wake up and become active with work. This is okay as most of them are still asleep and not eating into that power budget. Love your videos though Beefy, subbed and happy to see another 7950X3D user enjoying the CPU.

@@TheMattB81 hey fam, I can still make CCD 1 disable during games as in theory yes there should be a latency penalty. Because I didn't see a negative performance impact i never bothered to find an alternate method. Text me on discord so you can show me the results. BeefyTech#5723
