I'm just gonna be honest. I bought my Nintendo 2ds(electric Blue) in March of 2017 & I bought my Nintendo 2ds XL along with Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon in November of 2017. Me and my friend had a talk about this back in the 9th grade. In February of 2015, I told him that I was gonna hold on to my Nintendo 3ds consoles(Along with my Nintendo 3ds games) even if the Nintendo 3ds line was Discontinued.

Dude, the 2DS reintroduced me to console gaming when I was dead broke and trying to make it to the end of the month. It was just so nice walking into a gaming store and picking up some second hand titles that ended up being my all time favourites. Dragon Quest VIII and Shin Megami Tenstei IV come to mind

It's been 9 years this console has been released and it's games are still more fun than ever. You should explore the library of games, Japanese 3DS games, etc:. Not every games are on the Eshop btw.

gotta say, the New 2DS XL and 3DS XL are some of the coolest, design wise and hardware wise, systems this world will ever see. I've had the Luigi 30th Anniversary 3DS XL since 2013 and have used it so much, I love the 3DS, and I plan on collecting a lot more from it in the coming future, I would say the 3DS/2DS is still way more worth it than the Switch, sure its better hardware, but nothing will beat the 3DS's line of games, the Switch hasn't even come close to the quality and quantity of great 3DS/2DS games, along with that DSiWare shop and DS full back catalog backwards compatability, this thing was a powerhouse for modding, and is still, in my eyes, definitely one of the greatest Nintendo systems ever made.

my reccomendation is if you dont already have a switch, put your money towards that first then buy a 2ds/3ds. they just dont make many games for them anymore and it's kinda time to move on but if you already have a switch or just don't want one then i highly reccomend picking up a 2ds/3ds

Yes; the 2DS and 3DS are still very much worth owning at this point and will continue to be worth owning for as many years as the handhelds will last. There is so much that you can do with them; especially if you went through the process of installing Homebrew and the Luma3DS CFW onto one. Once that is done, you can do all sorts of things. One thing I did was install Pictochat onto my 3DS; since that was one feature I wanted on my 3DS. I was not a fan of Swapnote or Swapdoodle. I preferred typing out messages rather than writing them with a stylus.

I bought a switch lite last july, primarily because the games I wanted was no longer being released on the 3ds systems. Between me and my sister we have 2 ds handhelds, specifically 2 ‘new Nintendo 2ds xl’s (both different Pokémon limited editions (pokeball+pikachu)) and even when I want to borrow her ds and ask really nicely, the only way I manage to borrow it is to bribe her (the other day she wanted me to plug the Apple TV back in so I did, but at the cost of borrowing her ds for an hour) I want to get a 2ds so that I don’t have to borrow her ds whenever I want to trade between Pokémon saves, or battle in wireless duos (or whatever) in the battle tree

If you do get one, aim for the "New" 3DS or 2DS. You might as well get the whole library. Though they just got discontinued, eventually they will go up in price. Especially the games. Physical games, at least. Digital games should be good as long as the eshop remains open. Side note, I can't imagine not being able to access the eshop anymore. Unless the Switch situation changes, this is my only access to the Virtual Console.

@@davidparker5135 I mean "the whole library" in terms of the virtual console. Don't get me wrong, some games definitely run better on the "new" versions, but I wouldn't call that a system seller. The Virtual Console, however, is something I can write home about. I consider it part of the 3DS's library. Some VC games are exclusive to the "new" systems, so I think people should aim for those versions to get the full game library.

The amazing thing about the DS line (and even the Wii line) was that it was affordable and it was backwards compatible. Nintendo has always been about kids and families and innovation. I hope that in the future, Nintendo’s consoles have backwards compatibility. One of the things that kept me from the Switch was that it couldn’t play any older games (and in fact, they seem to keep rereleasing Wii U games instead of putting out new Nintendo brand games). Having to pay for an online service to play the games online also stings a bit. If they continue with backwards compatibility in the future, they will earn a lot of player loyalty.

Yes because it has good games, I play games on my 3DS that are released in 2014 etc:. and are so fun. If you want Nintendo to know that reviving this ds brand is worth it then buy that console so we get a new DS console in 2021.

I'd say yes. The 3DS is still a great console and offers a compelling library of games. There a lot of games that can only be found on the 3DS or the best versions of particular games are on the 3DS, it's still a great cheap introduction to Nintendo games. Notable example being the Kirby games, the 3DS remakes of the N64 Zelda games, as well as the 3ds exclusive. Those great Mii games, the Metroid remake. Also Shin Megami Tensei ports and remasters on the 3DS and with Shin Megami Tensei Nocturn remaster coming to Switch as well as V, the 3DS has IV. It's also cheap to get with a bunch of games included. Also a nice cheap way to maybe get a gaming platform for kids who would otherwise not have any access, such as kids in orphanages.

I highly recommend getting a 2ds XL or the 3ds version for modding reasons. There is a lot of fan games added including popular games as DDLC (Doki Doki literature club), first FNAF, and more remastered to be able to play on a 3ds. It also supports ps1 emulation, GBA, DS, and more. You can even turn certain rom games into CIA files for easy access. Custom wallpapers are very popular (easy to be made as well). There is a tone of cool features modded 3ds/2ds XL has to offer.

I'm impressed with 3DS. Personally, my first game console was Nintendo Switch Lite. I bought it sometime in October 2020. My mum gifted me brand new PS4 Slim last November 15, 2020. I stopped playing games when I started to work due to a handful of priorities in life. Then, at this age 38, I was convinced that playing games is a good brain exercise regardless of age. Bottomline is, the brain craves new experiences including playing games. I spend one to two hours of game time everyday. The drive to play games long hours is no longer there (compared when I was a teenager). I mean, I can wait for the next game time, unlike before that the need to play game was hard to resist. I would steal time to play Street Fighter in malls before going home from school. Playing games on consoles, especially at personal space, is like dealing with the world of imagination while totally awake or conscious. I noticed I have faster reflexes at work or when I do some chores at home. I thank some games meant to be played under time pressure for that. Once a gamer, always a gamer for life!

"Should you buy a 2ds today?" vs "Should you buy a 2ds today INSTEAD of a Switch?" -- those are two very different questions! If it's an either/or based on quality of play alone, then the Switch is a no-brainer. If it's a question of "best bang for your buck," then things get a little bit more complicated. The price of Nintendo's first-party Switch games hasn't come down a penny since the console launched coming up on four years ago now; with the exception of a few rare sales and offers, Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey are still $59.99 new. Buy a Switch Lite and those two games, and you're looking at $320 before tax. What kind of play value could you get for $320 buying a 2ds and a bunch of used 2ds games instead -- the entire Shin Megami Tensei line, a ton of Mario games, a couple of Pokemon games thrown in... The ideal would be to get both, of course. My suggestion? Save your money, pick up a Switch, and then forego one (ONE!) new Switch game at some point to pick up a used 2ds instead. Then you can pick up a crap ton of 99 cent and five-dollar 2ds games here and there as you find them at pawn shops, Goodwill, etc. If you can really only afford one of the two consoles, I can't imagine you'll ever be able to buy very many first-party Switch games anyway.

Sad the switch has many controller problems and the 2ds was perfect but yes the switch is helping Nintendo get lots of money

I have a 2ds and a 2ds Japan import to . I'm still looking for a pokemon 2ds . I can see the 2ds out lasting for a while! The prices have stayed high for the 2ds and I think they will remain there too long live the wii u erm I mean the 2ds !

the 3ds line is no longer worth buying games for. any money spent will not go to those who made it. at this point it is a wonderful console that should be homebrewed and enjoyed for years to come. Yes a switch has new games, but there is a lot of well documented games that i have never played and seem new for me and i am okay with that
