Thank you Blanche, We are generous tippers too and we tip based on the service we receive as we are very appreciative, Especially when we receive great service. We went to Cancun last May and we had the best top notch service and hospitality that we didn’t mind tipping extra. It makes us feel really good and made our stay and experience that much better❤I took your advice and brought thank you cards (Spanish) to include with our tips for daily our room service. The “Thank You/Gracias” cards are a nice added touch with the tips 👌🏼❤ Im sure the workers appreciate them.

Eeek!!! You are brave for tackling this subject😂😂 I pretty much agree with a lot of this. To be honest, where I drop the most in tips are the laborers. The people that don't typically interact directly with visitors, the ones visitors walk by without acknowledging. One place i stayed, a man was on his knees everyday clipping grass with sheers. He actually cried when I gave him money 🥹. They REALLY appreciate it, and you are probably giving them more than they make in a week.

Im from Las Vegas,NV where we tip for EVERYTHING. I took $700 cash for tips. $200 in $5’s, $200 in 10’s, $300 in 1’s for a 5 day stay. Tipped $5 for transportation for me and my fiancé each way, $5 for the bell boy,$10 to housekeeper we saw finishing up our room and I told her if she could please make sure we were stocked up with towels and water for the week (she definitely did). Breakfast we would leave $3/$4. Same for lunch. Dinner $6-$10 depending on where we ate. Bartenders $1 per drink. At times id tell the bartender to take care of us and keep em coming if they saw my fiancé or my drink half way and id give them $10 once for a time period of 3/4 hours we sat by the pool. My fiancé got a bad rash/scrape the second day because of a pool floaty. I tipped the female security $20 and asked if she could come atleast once a day to repatch and clean and she came twice a day. Concierge $5 for activities. And $2/$3 for the golf cart anytime we used it. Tipping doesn’t feel like a “job” when these employees literally spend their day to make your vacation unforgettable. Those 5 days in Cancun VIM were amazing.

I think it’s really important to tip when I’m at an all inclusive, the staff work so hard, they definitely deserve it. And just like you mentioned, I’ll tip the bartenders, the people at the meat or egg station or whoever provides a service. I try to be a generous tipper, it really irks me when some guests can be so demanding and then they’ll leave 0 tip at the table. I mean, a little kindness goes a long way.

Recently returned from an AI in Punta Cana and leveraged your advice (from an earlier video), since it's been several years since we've been to an AI and I didn't know what amounts were typical these days. Overall, I just try to be generous with all the staff. I think the joy I get in return is worth more than the $'s out of my pocket. Life's short, be generous. 🙂

My cousin and I tip anywhere from $25-$50/day. These workers make around $15 per DAY! It's ridiculous how hard they work for such little pay. The minimum wage in Mexico increased by 12 % this month, but the wages are still low. If you are tipping in USD, make sure that you bring bills that aren't torn, tattered or written on. It makes it harder for workers to turn them in at their bank for pesos. Also, for housekeeping, the person cleaning your room is not the person doing your turndown service, so consider AM and PM tips. And the person refilling your mini bar is different than housekeeping, so I always throw a few bucks in the fridge.

Not at the resort but tipping any excursion tour guides and drivers is also important! I travelled for the first time to Mexico with my friends family and they didn’t research the tipping culture prior to going, and didn’t bring USD or pesos with them. They felt very awkward after arriving because the atm on the resort only dispensed $50 bills. Hopefully this guide can help people avoid this situation!

I tip. I make “tip bags” just a small clear ziplock bag with a few pieces of candy and cash inside. It also has our name on it. I tip $2 for drinks. Dinner $5 or more depending. Breakfast for buffet is around $3 or so. Housekeeping $5 a day. If I have a request for the mini bar. I throw in $2-3 If I have a butler.. that honestly just depends. My last butler we gave him $5 the day we met him. Then we never really seen him after that. 🤷🏾‍♀️ I feel like when I tip at the swim up bars we get faster service. They remember our drinks. Make fun shots without even being asked. Carrying the candy on day one is a pain. I am very much over it by the time we get to the resort. Since it’s heavy. We only do carry on. But everybody seems to love the candy with the cash. It also helps me keep track on how much I am passing out in a day.

I primarily travel to Sandals, I love that tipping is not expected so I feel the staff really enjoys what they are doing and not working for the tip. When I do travel to other resorts I follow the same style as you, the staff at resorts work much harder then we do most often so give them something.

@@davegriffith6409 You really are doing those people a big disservice and putting their jobs at risk for the couple of dollars you are giving them. There is nowhere on a Sandals or Beaches resort that staff interact with guests that isn't under video surveillance, and taking a tip will get the employee fired. Their resorts are among the highest paying in the Caribbean and they also provide free health care and other benefits, so they have many long term employees.

I pretty much agree with who you tip and amounts. I tip $1 per drink, $5 at breakfast, $5 at lunch, $10 at dinner, $5 per day to maid, and usually $5 to Bellman. I have never had a butler so can't speak to that. We do always stay at least 1 week if not 2 weeks when we go that being said you build relationships with servers / bartenders ect over that time so I often on top of normal tips give larger tips to certain people on our last day.

While I don't mind tipping... when at an all-inclusive, I expect to be able to not have to carry money on me the whole time I am at the resort. So there lies the dilemma. It's been a long time since I've been to an AI resort. But, the way (some) cruises have overcome this is that in their after-cruise survey, they will give a worker 1/2 day off for every person that mentions them by name. And I found the best way to remember their names is to take a pic of them, making sure to get their name tag, and tell them what it is for, they are big time stoked whenever I do this. No clue if any resort does the same thing though. But Princess Cruises definitely does this, and the service you get definitely goes up a notch for the rest of the cruise after this. And since it literally costs me nothing, except a few moments of time after the cruise, if I even see someone scrubbing a stain on the floor in the middle of the night, I'll take a pic of their name tag. Within a few days, the entire ship seems to know who I am. lol Sounds lame, but it works. Anyone know if any resorts do this too? (BTW, as far as I can tell, Princess Cruises isn't related to Princess Resorts, but I could be wrong.)

Tips can make or break someone's day for sure. The only thing I would add is that if you're not at the bar but having drinks brought to you at the pool/beach, tip a little more because the servers also have to tip out the bartenders who are making the drinks. I also tip a little more for a cocktail than a beer as it's more work.

I'm from the UK and we certainly tip restaurant waiting staff, less so in hotels. Personally I find it overly intrusive to spend all day every day thinking about who to tip and how much, especially because the resort we usually stay at you'll tend to be served by a team of people even during one meal or evening at the bar. We tend to leave much larger tips to a few people with whom we have interacted most over our stay - the chambermaids and specific waiting and customer service staff. I think it's a little unfair that so many staff who are not directly customer facing don't get the opportunity to get tips but work equally hard to make your stay a nice one - all the maintenance people, cooks, the gardeners, the people who clean the beach, etc. I don't know if resorts share tips with them, or perhaps pay them more instead - but they should.

There is no right or wrong, there are no guidelines. People can do what they want. Some don't tip, some do. I do. In places like Cuba, we also tend to bring every day necessities like soaps, toothpaste/brushes, feminine hygiene, pencils, etc to leave for staff because these are items that are difficult for them to get. They work hard to make you happy for very little. Sure the resort can pay them more, but then your vacation will cost hundreds if not thousands more and then nobody would go and they would all be out of work. Also dont forget the grounds keepers. A nice cold bottle of water for them goes a long way!

Not a big fan of having to tip while on vacation at an all-inclusive - it is just inconvenient. I understand it for the lower priced resorts, especially in Mexico and the DR. But at the high end resorts in Cancun or Jamaica (Hyatt Ziva/Zilara, Secrets, Excellence) it should be included. The way I see it is, if the resort charges about as much as Sandals/Beaches does per night ($800+), it can afford to pay its employees enough that tipping is not expected.

I asked two employees from two different departments at the same resort in Mexico on a recent stay and they shared everyone pretty much works 6 days a week and average about $350/mo from their employer. I’m not sure how accurate that is, but regardless, I’m a tipper- we plan out envelopes similar to what you shared and still have some money to bring back home. I save loose change dollars all year and it adds up to a good amount to bring on a vacation.
