This video nailed it for me. I custom ordered my ‘21 R/T 5.7 Shaker 6spd manual. The car is an absolute blast to drive, and I fully intend to build the engine once the loan has been paid in full. That’s my goal. That said, the 5.7 is such a robust platform if you know how to wrench. Scats aren’t….that 6.4 is already compromised by design….but they’re great for turn-key guys.

Thanks for the shout out brother! You hit it spot on. The 5.7 can make big power and I’m gonna prove it. Which is better? It’s preference. Age old question. Built vs bought. For those pesky automatics that hit the track, don’t forget an upgraded torque converter. Huge help off the line.

Depends on why you would. If it's from peer pressure in the mopar community, don't. If you want more power and feel like it's not making enough.. you can but the 5.7 is Hella tuning potential compared to the 6.4 to where you could make almost the same amount if not more with potential force induction possible as well. Honestly it depends on preference. I owned both a 5.7 and 6.4 and there are pros and cons to each. The 5.7 sounds AMAZINGLY deeper than a 6.4 but you get way more torque and raw feel with the 6.4. This is a easy fix with just tuning with the proper set up if need be. Completely up to the person. If you can, rent or try a 6.4 and see if you rather a stock upgrade, or make a decision to build a 5.7 up to compete if not do better than a 6.4....there are so many builds and creative things people have dome to cars, it's just up to you.🤝🏽

Unlimited funds- skip all dodge models and drop a race block. Limited funds 5.7 or 6.4 is a great choice. People no longer know how to mod anymore. Muffler deletes and cai dont count. The 5.7 block is a great block but not the best. The 6.4 block which is based off of the 6.1 block and both are amazing. You would be better off swapping a 6.4-6.1 into a 5.7 model car. Especially if you know how to do the work. Even getting a copart car and swapping the chassis is a great choice.

@MATTHEW575M all pistons reach the same height in the cylinder. The issue with the 6.4 stock is the ring gap is quite tight and to add to it the ring landings for the compression ring is to tight to the head of the piston. The internals are not weak as they are also strong on the 5.7. They are simply not optimized for boost.

Donnie r/t talked me out of the cam. My plan is the 6.4 intake headers and a 100 shot of nitrous wet plate system. Probably the rear dif 309 . I like the drivability and gas mileage of the 5.7 with the ability to add 100whp with the push of a button for $700.

@@rustyshaklferd1897 Most of the things on your list will need a tune. The 392 intake? Definitely, plus you need to get your RPM switch working right to switch between long/short runners to take advantage of it. Nitrous, absolute must. Love that whine! A whipple is probably the blower with the most pronounced whine, even putting a factory hellcat blower on a 5.7 doesn't make a ton of sound because you have to restrict the boost levels to about 6 or 7 when usually they run at 15 in the hellcats. With a combo like you're talking about you'd be throwing down a good 550hp to the wheels at least. More than enough to have some fun with I'd say!

You’ve got kids still going to college/university driving a $70k car around you don’t have to be great at math to know a part time job isn’t going to pay for that. The 5.7s respond well to mods, and above just timeslips and races against the other V8s out there, above all else a modified 5.7 is just a really fun car to drive!

Great video, I also am a manual purist lol. When I was looking for my Challenger it took me forever to find one around my budget and with a manual transmission, I actually could've afford a Scatpack but I was not finding any manual Scats at all, so I opted for a 2013 manual RT. I personally do care more about the transmission and old school drive experience, than how much power it packs. Don't get me wrong I would love to have a Demon and take it to the track to rip it like the lord intended, but my budget ain't all that lol. Honestly no regrets, just the sound of that straight piped og stock 5.7 smacks fear into people lol, it actually legitmately sounds better than all the 2015 gen trims, people constantly ask me if it's a Hellcat just by the sound of it, some people don't even ask, they straight up tell me "nice Hellcat" 😂 and with all the aesthetic mods I've done to her it makes for scary car, dudes respect her, girls don't wana get close to her and cops pull her over 1-2 a month, yup I made the right decision with that 5.7 lol and if I ever wana make her faster, oh yes I can build some serious power in her lol Also, that yellow Challenger on the clip is actually a Demon

Ok i know these motors like the back of my hand! All these blocks are the same they all handle 700 hp easy!! The blocks are all the same i like the 6.1 and build up from that engine! 6.1 and twin turbo it! Or just change the piston rings on the 5.7 the cam the lifters and springs and thats all you need to do!!! All the 5.7 are the base blocks they all are 4 bolt/6bolt main!! The 5.7 is the base!! Go from there and the sky the limit! Also delete the mds system! I had a 2008 srt8 and it still was the same transmission as the 5.7 rear end shocks and springs all the same! 1/4 mile racing is wayyyy different these hemi are city highway cars they made for tracks not straight away 1/4 miles!! How do the hell cat do on the track against the vette or porsche we comparing 1/4th mile times that dont mean anything people!! But anyhow the 5.7 hemi blocks are what the base block is on all and i repeat all the engines!! Research and go from there they all are perfect balance and all that matters!! Camshaft lifters springs and valves upgrade on the 5.7 and you got a monster!!

Loved the video man. A lot of good in depth info. People sadly tend underestimate what you can get out of a 5.7. Even just throwing some boost at a 5.7 will get you up to and past 6.4 territory. For a lot less money. Throw a cam in there too and now you are having more fun than the 6.4s in something that you had fun building for less cash. All while enjoying the element of surprise and still only paying rt insurance rates. Great video man 👍

I mean I did mine for around $1700-1800 all in. But that’s me doing it in my garage. If you’re taking it to a shop it’s going to be substantially more. I spent maybe a touch over 3 grand and a couple evenings and weekends working on my car to get fast enough to beat my first Scatpack. I wouldn’t trade that for anything. Excellent video, as always. I’d like to suggest the Barton short throw for the manual Challengers. They’ll run you $500 bucks and install will take about an hour (45 minutes if you don’t have to make an emergency autozone run for a missing socket) I cannot emphasize enough how amazing this shifter is. All the shifts are super tight, super notchy, 2nd-3rd is guaranteed every time. I love this shifter. Best short throw shifter I’ve ever had in any car. Period.

i have an 09 R/T 6spd with a 392 rear diff, i went with 18" rims (1.5" smaller diameter then 20") i put a mopar 6.4L srt cam in it with custom tune by johan (tune was easy with my wide band o2 sensor dialed in at 12.5 AFR in all rpm bands) mopar performance valve springs and that was it kept all the same valve tran parts .keeping vvt fully operational . bbk shorty headers ,with a nice custom cat back system. fastman 82mm TB, fully insulated 4"custom CAI breathing below engine bay. 180 deg stat twin catch cans, my 0-60 times are between 3.9-4.1 on a cool night with a good hook up. did all this work myself .cam was very cheap.no dyno yet but im guessing i gained about 65-80 Ghp . i can easily stay with a scat and sometimes nudge them a bit . btw my engine has 100k on it when i did all this , reason my oil pressure is at 45 psi AT IDLE on a hot day engine warm and 50 on a cold day engine warm. Pennzoil ultra syn (0w40) so engine is tight. one more thing i did a complete rear cradle bushing kit ,the wheel hop was out of control but that fixed it rear is tight and stays planted now . nice video enjoy watching .

Great video and personally am a fan of “playing the hand you’re dealt” especially if you like your car and it’s payed off. Can always piecemeal the brake and suspension upgrades as time and budget allow. One thing I learned when I was younger is if a better time slip is what your chasing, before throwing parts at it, get as much seat time learning how to launch and shift. Local tracks are usually inexpensive on Street Nights and time spent learning to wring the most out of your car is time well spent. Meet a lot of knowledgeable people in the pits and many are happy to share advice and tips no matter what brand they drive.

You started this video off wrong buddy by saying trading your car in at the dealership is wrong and they won't give you what it's worth if that dealership wants to make that sale they will take your trade in at whatever price it takes as long as it's a decently maintained vehicle I had a 2015 1500 silverado traded it in for a honda accord touring 2.0T and the dealership I went to completely paid my truck off to make the sale it's all about how valuable of a customer you are and of course what your bringing to the trade in table. Also I was looking at chargers before I got my touring and scat packs start brand new at 44k that's building it online and getting it shipped to the dealer and used scat packs that have around 20 30k miles they go for around 30 to 36k in price so I honestly don't understand where you got your pricing from.
@TrackPackRT
@TrackPackRT 3 жыл бұрын
I’m in Canada. Everything is more expensive here. You’d have a hard time getting an R/T new for under 44k here. That’s why I said I have to use my car market as the example because it’s hard to be accurate trying to talk about somewhere I don’t live. Although stuff is more expensive up here the price differences between the 2 trim levels is pretty much the same in the US, so the comparison still works, our prices are just 10k more expensive. About the dealership taking a loss to make a sale I have to say I don’t buy it. I’m not saying you’re not being honest I’m just saying dealerships have to make money and they won’t take a loss out of the goodness of their hearts just to help someone get a good deal on a car and it would be unwise to walk into a dealership thinking that’s how it’s going to work out.

Track Pack R/T, You Sir are one of my favorite You Tubers, so I mean no offense, I just have my own opinion to share. When it comes to the street where most of us drive our cars with zero intentions of ever going to the track, these upgrade paths are not set in stone. No matter how much horsepower you have if you cannot get it to the pavement it is totally useless, that's why many prefer to run from a rolling MPH, because they cannot get off the line on the street and they know it. Long tube headers are not the only header option but if track horsepower is your goal maybe they are, but Shorty headers vs the stock exhaust manifolds are long tubes. Shorty headers combined with High Flow Cats and a good High Performance Cat Back Exhaust and tune on a 5.7, give the bottom end some serious punch. Now comes the true problem getting that power down to the road requiring wider rear tires, a limited slip differential, correcting the stock negative camber, and getting rid of that junk OEM driveshaft. You can upgrade a 5.7 to street light to street light monster level, and totally embarrass a Scat Pack owner! IMO anyone not satisfied with their 5.7s upgrade performance on the street has taken the wrong upgrade path.
@TrackPackRT
@TrackPackRT 3 жыл бұрын
You are absolutely correct. After I put on a set of Nitto 555R's for the street I couldn't even do donuts anymore they gripped so hard! In this video I left tires out of it because a new Scat would have the same 245s on it unless they were upgraded. Getting the power to the ground will be the challenge with this setup for sure.

@Spooky V8 I bought mine from TheDriveShaftShop, I am running the 4" Aluminum Shaft which is rated at 1,000+ HP, but if I was a Track Racer the Carbon Fiber is lighter and less spin resistance, but it would be best to give them a call and see what they recommend for your power level, and driving needs whether street or strip.

@Gorilla_Gang_RT when you tune your car your tuner can adjust your pedal sensitivity/responsiveness. A pedal commander would operate on adjusting that parameter I imagine. I remember we did adjust mine a little when I got an initial tune from Chris my tuner. You’ll be stoked when you get the headers on man!
@TrackPackRT
@TrackPackRT 3 жыл бұрын
@Gorilla_Gang_RT one thing that a pedal commander does that is super valuable if you race (that I have to do with a jumper in my fuse panel instead) is allow you to turn your fans on manually to cool your car off between runs. Super important for consistent and as fast as possible at the track! Kooks are great, so are the stainless works headers. I haven’t personally seen the BBK ones but lots of people run them. It’s worth it to get them ceramic coated when you get them in. I did that to mine when they arrived from a place in town. Helps keep the heat down in the engine bay, headers give off a lot of heat.
@David-qf9gp
@David-qf9gp 3 жыл бұрын
@Gorilla_Gang_RT I do have a Pedal Commander but after my tune was installed it has been turned off, because it causes a throttle to transmission double tap no matter what setting it is on, when it does the double tap it hits the automatic transmission way too hard. The double tap is best described as a delay from the time the PCM (Power Control Module) tells the TCM (Transmission Control Module) of the depressed accelerator pedal which causes a double slam to the transmission. The Higher the Pedal Commander setting the worse it is, so to me running the tune the Pedal Commander is useless.

You (everyone) should at least do the numbers on trade-in vs private sale. For most states you will only have to pay sales tax on the difference between your new car and the trade-in value. If you do a private sale, you'll be paying the full sales tax on the new car. For example (this video at 5:42), if MSRP is 53,700, he should be able to talk that down by at least 7% (49,941); he'd have to pay tax on $49,941 and if that tax is 10% (metro area), that's $4,994 in tax. But if he is offered $17K trade from the dealer, 49,941-17,000 = 32,941 * 0.1 = 3,294 in tax. So you'd want to make sure your private sale brings in more than $17K + (4,994-3,294) = 18,700 to break-even. I'd add $500 to make the hassle of meeting multiple buyers worth it, so $19,200. So the $20K private sale would be just about right...though I think you can expect many buyers to ask for $500 off when they start pointing out minor flaws.

I went the RT rout. Have the cold air intake, long tube headers, full exhaust, stage 3 cam, unlocked ecu and tune and I'm pretty happy with it.

@@augustdrums1247 It was part of the package with the exhaust and everything so I dont have the exact cost for it (invoice is in the glove box and the car is back in the shop at the moment). That whole package was 10k tho.

@@augustdrums1247 No its not. If you did the labor yourself it would definitely cut back on the cost but still have to get a tune at the shop.

I was told the 2014 5.7 manual rt eagle(variable timing) was 400 hp and 415 tq at crank? If you knew you needed ring gap down the line, would you forge when camming or would you wait till boosted? I think are cars are twins!

Nope, autos are rated at 370, manuals at 375. The trucks are rated slightly higher but they have a different intake design as well as a different exhaust setup. The biggest thing is to plan and budget your build and then execute in a way that’s going to cost you the least in the long run. If you know you’re pulling your engine out to upgrade your internals, you might as well put the cam in and headers all in one shot, that will be the less overall cost, just more $ all at once.

Man your doing it wrong...You have to compare what year your car is to that same year scat pack...What's the price difference between the top of the line 5.7 rt verses the top of the line scat pack. That difference is what you have to beef up the 5.7 and remember you have to include labor for doing the work in there too. This is a fairer comparison than what your trying to do You don’t mention what year challenger you had to start with but nothing says you have to buy a new 392...I had a 13 RT with the 5.7, it was a nice car but the 17 scat pack shaker I traded it in for is far superior. As for trade in...if you could get 20K I’d be impressed cause nobody will give you that...hell I only got 17.5 for mine and it only had 46K

There was no such thing as a 392 when I car came out! When I bought it new in 09 if you could even find an SRT with the 6.1 stealerships were gouging for them trying to sell them for way over list price which is why I bought my R/T. If you don’t want to or can’t do the work yourself I did have a bunch of advice for getting the best deal labour wise by doing both at the same time but the video was getting so long I cut it out along with a section on super charging that I’m going to make into a part 2 episode. This video was getting super long, I had to shorten it up. I do have a passion for doing this work yourself though, admittedly it’s my bias, but at the same time with drastically different shop rates and wages over 2 countries ect it’s impossible to get an actual number to put to an install, but I’m willing to bet it’s still cheaper than the “trade for a scat” prices I was looking at in the example. That is a fair point though!
