I was never interested in Souls Games but Elden Ring is so fun! I'm afraid of literally everything, but I just killed a giant, ON MY OWN. Maybe that doesn't sound like a big accomplishment, but I went from dying to a sheep, to killing a giant. I texted my boyfriend all excited for the accomplishment he made on day 3 of playing the game because I was so proud of myself. I finally powered myself up and can deal damage, and have health, and now I'm ready to get out there in the game and be terrified of everything some more.

Elden ring has the perfect approach to difficulty. From’s vision for their games has always been that the player needs to use their wits and skills to overcome the challenges in the game. Rather than adding a menu option that just decreases a bunch of sliders so you don’t have to think about what you’re doing anymore, the process of making the game “easier” is itself still an active process. If you want the game to be easier you can make it easier, but making it easier still requires player investment to determine where they should go next, should they farm, are there spells/builds that increase their chances, are their weapon/spirit upgrades they can apply, etc. FS found a way to make “accessible” difficulty that supports their vision rather than contradicting it.
@ManiaMac16132 жыл бұрын
I've been a Souls fan for years, and I absolutely love how they handled the difficulty in Elden Ring. Is a dungeon or boss too difficult? Just go somewhere else. Sooner or later you'll either run into the exact weapon, spell or Spirit Ashes you need to turn the tide, more upgrade materials for better damage, more Sacred Tears and Golden Seeds for more survivability, or you can simply grind until you're strong enough to have the advantage. This is something that is only made possible through the open world of the game.

The smaller bosses are legit easy tho. They're good for beginners who want to get a feel for the game. You'll beat them easily in 2-3 tries. It's the second half of the game where it gets harder. Even the first few main bosses aren't difficult if you use the right weapons. You cannot use same strat and expect different results that's all

@@Artaxerxes. Doesn’t mean it isn’t exciting for people who have never played the games before, or that it’s necessarily super easy for everyone! All Souls games have little "easy modes" in the gameplay except maybe Sekiro. It's just that Elden Ring makes finding those modes feel less like resorting to dark magic out of desperation and more like natural progression, thanks to the open world. I feel like most people who were put off by Dark Souls or Bloodborne could easily go back after playing Elden Ring and realise it was more mindset than the game itself that got in their way.

I have 107 in Elden Ring and die so much it's not even a joke. Spent way too long fighting Godrick since I didn't run towards him in phase two. Failed attempting a magic build which just ended up really underwhelming. I felt Sekiro was way easier because once you learn the parry timing you just parry and dodge when necessary. In elden ring I can't get a single attack in on some enemies.

Also, they are very cryptic and have almost no environmental music so don't be afraid to seek out info and help, play with friends, or play while you listen to music, audiobooks, or KZbin. Seriously, the games seem hard because they are. But, they are ALSO fair..... Most of the time. I truly believe anybody who really wants to is totally capable of beating any ans all of these games. I’m glad Elden ring has shown people that from games are perfectly beatable. To be fair, they ALL give you options to make the games easier, the difference with ER is that ER has more options and the world is bigger so there’s more places to explore and see if you hit a wall

Also Elden Ring seems way more easier because you can engage difficult enemies at your own pace like what Matt said here. If you don't wanna fight a giant boss (that isn't a cutscene boss I bet, you can nope outta there or just completely ignore it and continue playing the game by exploring a different part of the world. Whereas in previous games, there is a defined path. Elden ring brings the breath of the wild formula to dark souls and it's one of the best decisions they've made. And it attracts people like me who were never really fans of their previous games. Open world sandbox games are just more accessible.
@bencooper69832 жыл бұрын
Its nice to know for sure but it doesn't solve the issue of games being released even in 2022 with minimal accessibility support. The game doesn't need to be made easier. It needs custom options so disabled gamers like my self can actually play. Just look at LoU2's accessibility options. I'm not joking when I say a one armed blind person with brain damage can play that game. It's so inclusive. From software are one of the biggest offenders when it comes to pushing aside disabled gamers. It's not about being a noob or getting gud it's about allowing people with reduced motor functions and other disabilities to play. It's a win win win really promoting accessibility give the studio a good look, they make more money, and more people can play..

4:22 The jellyfish's name is Aurelia! And she's wonderful! 😁 I've seen on the Steam forums people complaining about things like Spirit Ashes, saying that it's not the way the game was "meant to be played," that they make the game too easy. It's a ridiculous thing to say on so many levels. It's a game mechanic, advertised and actively provided to the player. It's as much the way the game is meant to be played as is taking on the game solo as a level 1 Wretch. No one is forced to use all the tools available or to build one's character along a particular path. The challenge can be whatever the player chooses to take on. The other thing is that it's primarily a single-player game, so how a player manages to beat it is of no consequence to anyone else. It may not be terribly impressive, but there's nothing inherently wrong with it. That said, I agree with the sentiment that not every game need be accessible to everyone. Some games cater to a different crowd, whether it be in difficulty or subject matter. There are those who might find Elden Ring's gameplay to their liking, but not the setting and story. Difficulty (or lack thereof) is merely one part of a game's experience. Accessibility is not the be all and end all, except insofar as a developer wants to maximise their player base and the revenue they pull in. Not everyone's concerned with that, though. Some developers have a particular vision for a game and the only obligations they have is to satisfy their vision and to satisfy those who funded the game's development.

I beat every Souls game multiple times, mostly because I like to play through the game using “easier” options at first and then graduate to soloing every boss in counterintuitive ways in a second playthrough. There is no shame in what Shelby’s doing. It reminds me of what I did on my first ever playthrough of a Souls game. My bet is she’ll fall in love with the game so much that she’ll end up wanting to play the “hard” way on a subsequent playthrough just to get the same rush. So happy she’s finally been assimilated to FromSoft world.

@bencooper69832 жыл бұрын
@@HiAndHello-w9l I look for things like auto Aim sensitivities, custom difficulty options, controller settings and other sensitivities like dead zone sliders which most games do have. Other specific things for specific types of games too. Ghost of tsushima has a nice option to make the sword fighting a bit more manageable. Gives you the option to turn on a small little red light when ever an enemy goes for an attack. Since il very slow and my skill level is very low if that red blinking light wasnt an option ghost of tsushima might have been unplayable for me. Developers can't balance a game for everyone's specific needs. For example I play DL2 on hard but have to switch to medium every time I fight human enemies because their too hard for me personally. LoU2 has that covered with custom balancing options so I can balance the game myself to suit my specific needs. Its not always a deal breaker for me. In the "Make new things" category, we have Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Elden Ring, 5/5 and all of them are great. One of the main reasons they're great is because Miyazaki is very passionate about making these games, and he himself has stated he prefers making new things over sequels.
