Oh the ole recliner. It was my bed but I always needed aid getting up and out of it. I fell down a flight of stairs, snapped my humerus bone in my arm ( 18 cm plate put in). Tore my rotator cuff, and another injury at that point I did not want to hear about. I have beat cancer, gave birth to 2 healthy children, had a total hysterectomy, but dam this was worst surgery ever. Has changed my life totally. As for the opoids ---this is not a no pain, no gain recovery. The only way I was able to recover at a proper pace was to stay ahead of the pain. I never became addicted, but I was certainly dependant on them for 4-6 weeks. YES your right on physical therapy . It is vital to recovery. It is a tough go as well. I wish I had this information, but mine was an accident. Great information you have here for those that are having this surgery. Love and Light.

Rehab for the elderly needs to proceed very slowly and no push to stretch the shoulder or knees. I am eighty and my doctor made a point of talking to the rehab folks and told them to be gentle with his patient. It worked.

Just want to add that not all post-surgeries are as painful or difficult as he indicates. I am three weeks after now and I am rarely in the sling. The first few days are challenging and sleep is almost non-existent but that changes fast. You will definitely want a recliner with soft arms to rest yours on.
@jojowhite90415 жыл бұрын
I had a full tear and also a bicep tear. I couldn't use a recliner because with my arm in a sling I couldn't even press the button to work the electric recliner. I laid and slept in the corner of a sectional. I also had a 6-foot long tube-like pillow that I folded in half and slept with on a nightly basis. I was off opioids fully by day three and only used one on day 4. Never used ice and still haven't (9 weeks today). Used a nylon sling every shower and started PT about 3 1/2 weeks into my post surgery. I feel great and I'm gaining more motion every week.

Definitely speak to your surgeon as for any movement. It depends on what he had to do to repair your shoulder.

GREAT, great advice and tips! Every one was spot on! Had my right rotator cuff surgery 10 days and 2 physical therapy sessions ago. I SO want to get back to doing the things I love. And that is my one BIG tip that I still struggle with--have patience. Thanks for sharing! God bless you!

I purchased a mesh sling to shower in. Also if you can't afford a bidet type device, order a spray bottle type to help get cleaned up after a BM. stool softeners while on opioid. Eat good dinner rich foods, hydrate s lot. Get outside as soon as your balance allowed to get a little bit exercise and fresh air. Ice, ice and ice!

I had regular replacement Nov 7. The MRI before surgery said I had no rotator cuff tear. Nov 20th shoulder was in alignment. I never got my arm past 90 degrees. Feb 7 I was told I am going to have to have another replacement because the ball is riding 2 to inches above socket, this time a reverse replacement. I am so disapointed. I had two knee replacements the shoulder replacement was no comparison It really sux

I have taken 4 and it's been about 2 weeks after now.....no issue with oxycodone, I take it usually when I just need the sleep....the pain it manageable if you don't focus on it. Push yourself is the key. I've had both knees done and a ruptured disc. This shoulder is a challenge though for pushing...it's fighting back no doubt, but I will win. Determination and the left hand is no big deal....maybe because I've always been left handed with a bat, an axe and the old butt wipe. My biggest frustration is trying to throw darts left handed....now that is a challenge, but fun. Threw 2 bulleyes out 3 today and beat my dad on cricket....not bad with a serious handicap. How long did it take you to get full range of motion back? I'm doing pretty damn good based on what I'm surfing on KZbin and other's progress.
@WujuStyler4 жыл бұрын
First time I attempted throwing darts left handed I got my highest score in 3 darts IIRC: 1st was Bull, 2nd a 3x20 and a single 19 to finish it off. I was like I should've tried this earlier! It was just luck though, I'm afraid

I found out that if you can afford or can rent one is a lift chair (recliner) get it; it will be a GREAT help to get up without hurting your shoulder. Also when I had surgery on my right wrist I had gone online and got a bidet; I know sounds crazy but it makes it a lot easier to clean your bottom! Just make sure you get one with remote control. LIFESAVER!!!! AND ICE ICE ICE IT WILL BE ONE OF YOUR BEAT FREINDS. DO NOT AND I MEAN DO NOT GET INPATIENT ABOUT YOUR PROGRESS IT IS GOING TO TAKE TIME!!!
