Dr Jo...I am new to your world, and I love it. Your attention to detail and you pace is perfect for me, thank you. I have a specific question and will not list all of the details here about my shoulder, but will be happy to share those details if you like, just don't want to take up that much space. In short, I am post surgery and having some issues (again, happy to share all or some of the details if you wish) My specific question that I can not get a clear answer from my orthopedist is this: What is specially causing the pain (7 out of 10 on a pain scale) during internal rotation? My post surgery MRI shows a perfect shoulder but I still experience this strong pain two months post surgery. I am thankfully using your videos for rehab now. I live n Costa Rica in a small town and so my PT person has limited experience and or equipment. I had this pain before surgery and still have it, worse now, two months after surgery. The ended up doing a Bicipital Tenedosis...that is all healed. I am a massage therapist, 20 years now, and know my anatomy well..so I really feel this is going to be an inside job and I'll need to solve it on my own. They have injected twice when the found some inflammation, some relief to other areas but ZERO when I internal rotate. The point of pain is pretty much in the "meat" the covers the bicipital groove and the pain also happen in my elbow and down my ulna...so guessing ulna nerve...but that's an educated guess. So, again...my question if it can be answered from all of that is "what is actually causing the pain" and is stretching THROUGH the pain what I need to do???? Thanks in advance from the rainforest in the time of Covid 19! Again, LOVE your approach.

theses are the stretches i started with when suddenly i could not lift my arm over my head no real pain just tightness and very weak that was 27 days ago i can raise my arm over my head now and have started to get some strength. I think i had pinched nerves and weakened shoulder muscles.tingling in arm comes and goes pain now since the stretches comes and goes. I do all the streches you find on you tube and hang by my arms on a rod. also lay on back when i sleep now and work on posture. you can heal yourself I am proof and so thankful I am on the long road to full recovery

Thanks a lot for your helpful advise. Went to physio therapy but the staff there scared of present pandemic and so had to go to occupational therapy for my shoulder tendonitis or rotator cuff problem. Had 6 mm shoulder tear which is paining horribly and makes me wake up at 3-5 am and undergo pain for an hour or two. Had elbow split fracture ten years back and maybe shoulder tear but doctor was intent on making a break of split fracture. He pressed so badly, I stopped going to Ortho for four years till i couldn't bear it anymore. Now they said 6mm left shoulder tear is healed but how comes it pains severely 7 of 10 and triceps too. Forget left side shoulder pain always. Will try your exercise and revert. GOD bless you and your family for the great free advise that you give. Can't afford the dollars to pay you with the rupees that we get. You are a God send along with selfless doctors like motivational doctor. Timely video, thank you! When I had surgery some years ago on my left shoulder these exact exercises plus stretch bands were prescribed once my therapy had progressed beyond keeping scar tissue from forming/building up. One trick I used with the external rotation was to stand in a doorway and gently put my upper arm against the side trim. That way my arm/shoulder were completely relaxed because I didn't have to hold a towel in place. Prior to surgery I had about 12" of side lift movement, 3wk post I had over 45deg external rotation and could comfortably slide up the wall to full arm and body contact! I had a huge spur and tendon that was holding on by 3 little strands. I had a highly skilled surgeon and therapist! Unfortunately time to go visit them again to get my right shoulder checked 🙁

I have been suffering from extreme pain in my left arm for approximately ten months. I had an ultrasound scan and it shows calcium build up on the tendon. He said it looks like it's been there for years. The pain is all in my bicep though, the shoulder only hurts when I press it. I've had 2 sessions on a machine at the physio which didn't help so now I'm waiting for an injection. I'm in so much pain my arm is hardly useable and now it's coming to the right side! I'm 65 x 😪

Hi Doctor, first of all thanks for the video! I've been struggling with shoulder tendonitis and distal bicep tendonitis (and I feel pain inside my bicep when I contract it) for 5-6 months which I'll have to admit was mostly because of my own fault of ignoring the pain at early stages of the injury which happened while I was doing shoulder plate rotations (and I still kept doing them for weeks despite the pain, which I know was a very stupid thing to do :( ). I understand that I am probably just paying the price of ignoring the pain and doing the exercises that I should not have not been doing after the injury, but is there any additional advice other than these exercises (which I will definitely try) that you could give to speed up the recovery process in my situation? :( Thanks

Have you gone to physical therapy yet?
@advrider77776 жыл бұрын
AskDoctorJo Firstly thank you for replying I had X-ray ultrasound showed onflamed bursa and tendernitis and impingement. I’ve tried every exercise on u tube with little effect. I now have elbow pain which limits my treatment Extremely frustrated
@AskDoctorJo6 жыл бұрын
You're welcome. If you can, you should go to see a physical therapist in person (if you haven't yet). There are many things besides stretches and exercises that can be done in a clinic.

Thanks for the advice. I suspect the adhesive capsulitis I got in 2013 is still producing pain for me. People at the hospital says it's gone but I'm still having shooting pain and constant inflammation. Hurts like a mf. Shoulders are so complex.

You're welcome. They definitely are very complex. Good luck.

She didn't mention about x ray
@AskDoctorJo7 жыл бұрын
It might be worth getting, but an x-ray won't show any muscles, tendons, or ligaments. It mainly shows bone structure.

But how get relief from frozen shoulder. Am doing physiotherapy from past 2months but no improvement.
@AskDoctorJo7 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, a frozen shoulder takes a long time to recover from...sometimes 6-8 months.
