A very special band. Topper is one of the very best drummers, ever. Incredibly technique, touch, feel and imagination. When I listen to The Clash I often find myself listening especially to Topper's stick'n'kickwork...and I'm a guitarist/vocalist!

There's no comments on THIS? God, I remember this like it was yesterday. Fridays was almost uncanny in its ability to book emerging legends at their absolute prime and then draw fantastic performances out of them, and this is no exception. I mean, how could you be a 12 year old watching this and not be absolutely blown away? Thank god this is available for a new generation to see. A time machine, this-just magic.

Simonon, the bloke started in the band needing stickers on his bass to have the right notes, a year later: Guns of Brixton. Perhaps one of the best bass lines ever! And top of that reggae offbeat

album wise it's a good track, but live it was always shyte. Siminon could not reproduce it or elevate it the way Strummer could with his choons and vocals. I saw GOB live in Leics in 1980, no better than this.

WOW!! topper on clampdown is a real treat to the ears and eyes. unbelievable playing, especially listen to the kick drum on the bridge!!! used to play clampdown in a band I was in from Philly called the Von Cools,and just loved playing it, kicking the shit out of my drum kit.also sang the lead vocal on this song and the Rezillos song "bad guy reaction" which also has a great drum part, a real basher!! we actually did the the Rezillos album in it's entirety, this was in 1980-81........ great time to be in a band, awesome memories.

For the guitar Geeks watching note that Joe and Mick are playing through most likely rented Mesa Boogie Mark 1 amps with the stock Altec-Lansing speakers going into Marshall half stacks and somebody is rocking a rolling space Echo unit sounds great but it must have been hella loud on that stage

Paul on Joe's Tele and Joe on Paul's P-Bass for Guns of Brixton. Cool. I think Guns is written by Paul. Anyway, now I know why I can play Guns of Brixton...Paul never got to worried about making music too fussy and complicated. Just tight. Saying that the recording here isn't great and makes them sound poorly timed...they are not, it's the recording.
