One positive thing about your bike breaking down is that you get to make an informative video to educate people like myself.

Haha yeah there's that!

I will never do the work that you do but I enjoy watching and learning from someone who has the tools and the mechanical knowledge not to f*** s*** up.

Haha don't worry I screw up sometimes too 🤣

Pretty cool to see a shovel torn down like this, always love seeing the ins and outs of old mechanical stuff. Love the project, keep up the great work.

"Wrench to Ride ratio is way off", HAHAHAH I have less than 1 hour ride time since I bought the Outlaw. Wrench time is probably 100 times that. What you're doing looks like fun to me! Another great video, Stay Safe, Stay Dry.

Thanks! Yeah, I like working on the stuff, but man I like riding it more haha

Go ride it! I rode my ironhead today!

The reason for the lip facing out on a wet primary was to prevent dirty primary oil from seeping into the motor. But if a little motor oil seeped into the primary... That's the lesser of the two evils. Why they haven't made a seal that does both functions is beyond me.

When I isolated mine, I reversed the installation of the seal so the lip is to the inside, as the lip is supposed to face the pressure, keeping engine oil from the primary. With the circulating primary, the seal is reversed to keep the oil in the primary out of the engine until it goes through the filter. The engineers weren't worried about engine oil getting into the primary, but the oil in the primary has more contamination from the chain and clutch material that shouldn't go through the engine so the seal was installed like that to keep contaminated oil out

Yeah I definitely don't want all the chain and clutch gunk in my engine

Hello Paul, my daughter and I tried to keep an eye out for you at the Congregation show yesterday but must have missed you , catch you next time ! I just watched your latest video on the shovel head and and would like to offer a personal opinion on doing away with your oil pressure sending unit , I've always thought of it as the only warning you have of a n impending catastrophic failure if you loose oil pressure. Being air cooled the circulating oil adds a lot to cooling the engine , I would rather wire in a small warning light some where easily seen and make sure the sending unit is working as a bit of insurance ! But again just my opinion, God bless and have a great one !

Dangit, sorry I missed y'all! I caught up with a bunch of folks but also missed a bunch too, it was busy! Maybe I'll add some sort of hidden "idiot light" eventually, typing that reminds me of all my years with air-cooled VW lol! Catch you soon, there's a camp-out bike show in Lancaster in a few weeks I plan on going to, maybe see you there?

I jumped like I was watching Saw 3 at 12:38 when that 1/2" impact suddenly appear. I've never worked with an inner primary before, but that gun on those little fittings would make me nervous. I mean no disrespect but the Milwaukee impacts scare me on aluminum. Thank you for the video and stay dry.
@buttcrackcycles4 ай бұрын
So, I talked about this while working but edited it out actually. I've seen some pretty bad galvanic corrosion with a steel fitting in aluminum and you end up rounding off the steel fitting before you ever turn it loose from the aluminum trying to remove the fitting by hand. Granted this has mostly been on very large industrial diesel generators. Anyways, the trick for those fittings was always put a little heat on them with a torch and hit with an impact, so that's what I did here. I would've used a 3/8 impact but I was being lazy and the 1/2" gun was closer 🤣🤣 anyways thanks for watching, just some insight into why I did it that way (doesn't mean I'm right though!)

I hope I am the only one that bought your fundraising stickers and some of your merch. I was riding my sporty to work and while at a light I heard a noise. Once I got to work I was pushing my bike into a parking spot and heard a nocking coming coming from the primary side. So the bike is parked until I have the time to work on it.

Dangit!! You'll get it fixed! I'll do an update video on the stickers tomorrow, we've raised a good bit so far

I always lube tha seal before putting it in, and a shovelhead can be just as reliable als a stinking evo

I could never bring myself to install a seal with the spring out.
