Adam you and your young partner have nailed this channel and what it represents. I was a bit harsh in the past about how much your partner talks on old tested videos and since having mentioned that you have shown that the channel listens to the viewers thoughts and the self wanteing need that i'm sure. when you guys build you are more in tune with the projects and not straying away from topic questions, further more you guys seem to be doing so well i would like to see a seperate topic not adding on to the channel but having a bi-weekly or monthly live video feed of fan mail you guys recive this will act on the mythbusters theme but without projects and rather just answering questions that fans might want to ask from time to time. thank you both and again amazing job, altho it is sad that "mythbusters" got a new contract with two scientific muscular gentalmen.

On amazon you can buy parts made by bethesda that make your pip boy functional like a radio and a working screen i believe
@DarkestVampire926 жыл бұрын
It cant be too hard to actually make a fully functional Pip Boy. Geiger counters are available, cassette players have almost become obscure tech, the aforementioned tablet display and Raspberry Pi, some knobs, switches and real tubes... and well, a radio of course.
@Omega_Mart_Employee_K1Z8 ай бұрын
Well, a Geiger counter needs a big tube to detect radiation, if it’s too small, than it’ll only detect it if you’re right on top of it. It means you’d only know ur fucked when you’re standing right on top of a toxic can of this stuff. Hope this helps!
@worldofzap6 жыл бұрын
As far as a screen, I wouldn’t use a raspberry pi but use an old iPhone or Android phone or iPod touch and the actual Pip-Boy app. You could play fallout and use an actual Pip-Boy 😁
@MinorLG6 жыл бұрын
Ras pi can run Android. Pi0 is alot smaller than a phone, but can drive a larger screen still.
@Codex_of_Wisdom6 жыл бұрын
The problem with that is the app only really functions while playing Fallout, so it couldn't run while just being displayed.

I made a working Pip-Boy using the kit, a Raspberry Pi Zero W and a 3.5" TFT display. In the process of making a tiny FM radio and a Geiger counter to fit in it too.
@harshbarj6 жыл бұрын
@@MinorLG With a single core cpu and only 512mb of ram, it's not really worth it for something like this. You really need(or want) something more powerful. That is if you want it to actually do things and do it smoothly. I'd look at alternatives to the Raspberry Pi as there are far better alternatives out there with much faster CPU/GPUs and much more ram in the same form factor. Only thing the Pi has going for it is the size of the community. Their boards are grossly under powered and short on ram.
@Artizor6 жыл бұрын
I agree with all of this! The kit is absolutely amazing but the cuff design and attach method is kinda rough. I really wanted to make a leather cuff as well rather then the plush one. I bought another kit already because I had so much fun with the first one! Excited to build the second one and do some modifications!

I just the other day tried running the fallout 4 pipboy app on my phone while playing the game. You can have your map up on screen while your pipboy in game isn't up at all so you get a real bump in playability. weapon switching and gobbling meds is just a click away while you're running around in the game playing it. Ideally I'd like to try it with a bigger tablet next. the map gets a bit tough to read on a 5" screen. I can only imagine how cool it would be to have a real pipboy on your arm with working android screen and then run the android pipboy app on that while you're playing the game haha.

The only kind of screen that can be put inside one of these that makes sense is a projection screen, projected on a cut-off from an actual tube screen that matches the size. You'd have to apply some sort of silver deposit on it, a few microns deep just enough to fake that feeling of a tube TV. I would go after 1980s car dash projection screen from Japan, Germany (few) or UK (i think only one car ever had something similar, but i'm uncertain). Dissect those to understand how they are made. There's also a lot of Japanese market-only projection and TV type screen to consider. A lot of KZbin channels that review these things can advise as the content creators actually know exactly the sizes of the items. Sony and Panasonic had interesting stuff. I seem to remember a TV screen that was in the size format of a standard bento box with a bent cathode delivery, meaning it reflected off a source (i think). Power source is an issue, but if this is a cosplay piece then a wire worn in the suit via contact pads (to conceal) and a larger, belt affixed piece would solve that. I wouldn't put a huge battery inside this, rather think of it as a car engine, and just have a small battery, just enough to run this 10..20 minutes on its own using the large off-site one as the main "gas tank". Smallest arduino form possible, wouldn't bother with stock, a bought kit to reconfigure, prolly two and i would use a phone via wireless hotspot (with arduino shield) to run the whole deal. Again, minimal function in the actual item, just to push the deal, but the actual package is off-site. If i had time, of course, but who has time, that and i think that the price for these is hyper-inflated. If you actually want to do this right, the final price might hit 1k USD with imports and all that jazz (also, paying the guys who can design these to work, to be read, to work as if had been made in the fiction universe of Fallout).
