....played by a straight woman. LOL

Justin M And? A bunch of straight musical characters are portrayed by gay men and women.
@justinm26975 жыл бұрын
@@mymomtookmywii5333 My point was obvious, but I will spell it out. Surely you've noticed the latest call for 'only LGBT people can play LGBT characters. Also people of a certain cultural background can only play a role of the same cultural background. Which is ridiculous, but it is what is happening. So YEAH! a lesbian lead. Two even. But there is no outrage that they are played by straight women. Why is that? It's a very strange inconsistent standard.
@mymomtookmywii53335 жыл бұрын
Justin M Why would their need to be an outrage? Both women portray Emma and (I forget the other characters name, sorry!) perfectly. It doesn’t matter their ethnicity or sexuality, just as long both are girls and comfortable with playing lesbians, I’m fine.
@justinm26975 жыл бұрын
@@mymomtookmywii5333 I totally agree. There doesn't need to be an outrage. but sometimes there is. Look at Scarlet Johansson. The outrage over her playing a trans character when she wasn't trans. So much so she pulled out of the project and now it most likely wont be made. Such a shame because it sounded like an amazing story. Again Scarlett in Ghost in the Shell. The outrage over her not being Asian. (Note: Asians didn't care. It was the outrage US far left brigade that complained) Years before that, the outrage over Jeffrey Tambor playing a trans woman in Transparent. Just this year, Ruby Rose was cast as as a lesbian Batwoman, but she wasn't lesbian enough to play the character. It's all absurd, and it's made more so by it's selectiveness. This why I mention it. The Prom is about lesbian teens wanting to go to prom together. But the lesbians are played by straight women and no one cares. Why is that? Does Broadway get a pass? If so, why?

as a teenage lesbian, i saw this in new york in early November. even just listening to the songs on spotify now brings a myriad of feelings; hope, dread, fear, joy, happiness and above all, this sense of awe and exhilaration at finally being really and truly REPRESENTED for one of the first times. I can only say a heartfelt 'thank you' to the cast and people behind The Prom. This musical changed not only my perspective but my life.

Should have run so much longer. I saw it my first time in New York on a whim because tickets were discounted and we needed to break up some great but bleak shows. The good things I’d heard were so justified- original, funny and a breath of fresh air among movie properties. I wanted to drag classmates and teachers at my religious high school to see it!

The trailer doesn't do this musical justice. By the end, everyone's sobbing, cheering, and in the last half hour of so, every single song gets a standing ovation. Every. Single. Song.

What’s the story for this show? Judging by this clip the music seems pretty average, but sometimes if I’m not big on the music I can still get behind the story. What’s the plot?
@becca92115 жыл бұрын
Basically, Emma is a high school student who's told she isn't allowed to go to her prom because she wanted to take her girlfriend (Alyssa). A group of Broadway stars whose show just closed on opening night hear about it and decide that they're going to show up to this tiny town and try to make everything better in their very dramatic way. I'm bad at explaining things but I promise it is very good!

ok i live this musical but i just had to compare it to marvel lmao. This is gonna be weird but listen it's the same thing but emma is peter (p) and alyssa is wade (as a teen ofc) and it's the same concept but the broadway stars here are the avengers. this is a great fanfic idea (probably not). its just what i thought listening to it for like the 100000000th time

@@dominickjvlogs Like I said, the main characters aren't all white. Izzy, who plays Emma's girlfriend Alyssa, isn't and neither is Michael, who plays their supportive school principal. Their roles are really significant in this show so they feature very prominently in the show. It's a really diverse cast, with an interracial main lesbian couple and an interracial straight couple as the secondary romance, and it's also just a really fun and heartwarming show in general. It has a really strong cast and a hilarious and well-written book with extremely catchy songs so I'd definitely recommend checking it out (also it's not a bunch of white people go to prom if the student ensemble is diverse lol).
