Wow, very impressive to see a CRT over 50 years old STILL working. Most die out after about half that time (the good ones).

That's really nice for a 52 year old TV. I was 9 in 1972

So clean almost like old/boxed stock. ...In 1972 I was about 6 years old. I remember when the family TVs looked like this one. Thanks!

Very clean, an old set in very rare minty condition.

That Sencore CRT tester must have been one of their very last. The TV is way cool! You are right. Time traveler from 1972. Cue the "Time Tunnel" theme. 😊

My family had what might have been the last of the GE tube 19" black and white sets. Perhaps the model in your video replaced it. Our TV was all or mostly tubes and was purchased sometime between 1970 and 1971. It had the "insta view" feature that kept the tubes warm for quick operation. We figured out that this would waste energy and so we just turned the set entirely off using the off-volume control. The VHF tuner failed shortly after we bought the set and so channel 4 was on channel 5 and channel 12 was on channel 11, etc. I think it was a mechanical failure but it worked good enough as described so we just left it. That set lasted up until at least the 1980's and perhaps into the early 1990's serving in its later years as my parents bedroom TV before it finally wore out. I believe it was made in Syracuse NY.

You lucked out big time! This is definitely a user. Back when it was new you watched shows like All in the Family, Hawaii 5 0, Star Trek, and lots more.

Jordan B&W sets like this are the ONLY way to watch the old black and white films properly, very nice! that crt will last 40 years if looked after and not over driven The case is made from HIPS meaning if it ever cracks it can be welded back together with polystyrene cement.

Did not know that!

It would be better with DC restoration, but that's rare on most "modern" B&W sets. AFAIK Zenith is the only manufacturer who kept that feature.

Those slider controls were the "thing" that distinguished 1970's sets from other decades. I believe almost every manufacturer incorporated them.

How old is this that it has a loop antenna I loved turning off my old black and white TV when I was a kid You could watch the dot in the middle of the screen fade away

Hey Jordan, what would cause that portion on the upper left side of the screen to be blurry or soft.
@JordanPier11 ай бұрын
Defect in how the phosphor was sprayed, gun not quite reaching that area due to high deflection angle. I've been running the set for 6 hours now and it's cleared up. Whatever it was is gone now.
