Hey there, great job on the resto! I recently inherited an old ‘60s(?) era space heater from my neighbor who passed. It turns on and the coils glow, but the fan rotates slowly and then everything cuts out after a few seconds. I blew compressed air inside and brushed off dust, etc. but haven’t done a deep clean like you did. Connections appear to be solid and the fan doesn’t seem to be gunked up and it spins freely… would you know what’s going on?

Lol, bulbs have nothing to do with the speakers popping at shut off. If the 2020 pops, then the transistors in the protection circuit need to be replaced (they're leaking).

Any tips on the tonearm or lift not fully going down? It does play the record but it skips but if I did the penny trick it works..
@JordanPier15 күн бұрын
@@Mia-v3w6y look around the curing lift bar and what pushes up on it from the inside. Might be a height adjustment, or the cueing button is not lowering the bar properly due to messed up or jammed linkage
@Mia-v3w6y15 күн бұрын
@ I think it could be the lift because if I manually put the needle down myself, it plays beautifully 😩 I also have tightened the screw that’s connected with the lift. I guess I have to open it up again for me to check whats really going on

@@JordanPierhey jordan, I have opened up the turntable and everything looks good. I’m guessing its a needle problem at this point?
@JordanPier12 күн бұрын
@Mia-v3w6y test is to cue down just outside where the record would be and see if it touches the deck. If it does it's a stylus problem. If it doesn't get low enough it's a mechanical problem

Really appreciate this video. I was restoring one of these and the part of the video showing the parts on the bottom of this record changer. That pertained to proper operation of the tone arm helped me fix an issue in which the tone arm would stick in an area on the record and not advance. Straight forward no nonsense instruction on here. Thank you.

Good to see it run again. I have done much with those BBD-s to get them to run most economically. I found the best metering rod is a #75-2226 (.0675X.0635X.57") with a .089 jet # 120-389. These can be found in carburetors that have that "Lean Burn" junk attached to the engine. Just curious to know why you didn't overhaul the old one? They are about as simple as you can get.
@JordanPier12 күн бұрын
I was strapped for time and the cheap replacement carb arrived the next day. I wouldn't have been able to get a kit in my possession for at least another couple weeks - at which point the car would have had to be ready to drive on to a trailer. The carb that was on it someone had replaced with a holley economizer that was already in poor shape. Eventually the engine will get pulled and rebuilt on this car, so its only purpose was to make it move.

Hi Jordan. This video was extremely helpful getting my collaro working! I have the same exact model. Do you have any advice on adjustments to improve tracking / reduce skipping? Thank you!
@JordanPier12 күн бұрын
I don't recall if there are any specific tracking adjustments. Some Collaro have a thumbwheel or screw adjustment under the back of the arm that will allow you to adjust the weight. I've always stuck some speaker gasketing material (kinda like putty) in empty places of the tonearm by the cartridge if there is room to add weight. These should be able to track around 3 grams. If yours isn't I would suggest looking at sticky bearings on the tonearm, a mechanism that isn't fully releasing or an impediment like too tight a wiring harness coming out of the arm.

Hey Jordan, Thanks for the Video I have an A-2300SD so many of the parts and construction is common so your sequence and talk through was very useful. My Pinch Roller went stiff also changed Capstan belt and counter belt. I notice you didn't mention Counter belt? My belts came as a pair, probably good to replace both at the same time. I am in the UK, i noted that you bought your belt from Teac in the States. That would be very useful to know to ascertain whether they would deal with me in the UK. Do you have an email contact? But thanks for Vid, well explained and Commentated with all your hints and tips. So thanks once more. My Vietnam Veteran still purs like a Kitten. These machines are so solidly built i swear they would survive a grenade attack! For me you cannot beat these brilliant machines for pure analog sound. They look so awesome playing in a nicely dimmed room moving and producing awesome sound! Also useful to know could you tell me the spec of the lub oil you use and the switch cleaner. Also, i have always used Methalated Spirit to clean heads and other parts. I find it a good cleaner and evaporates very quickly. Is alcohol better? Regards to you from Andy, Bristol.UK.

Your lamps aren't out. What happens is the incandescent lamps turn the white diffuser plastic behind the blue display yellow. The blue display plastic cancels the yellow light making dim spots. You can whiten the plastic by putting it in a bath of sodium bicarbonate and hydrogen peroxide, exposing the yellow side to direct sunlight. It's a lot of working getting it out of the chassis though. I replaced my bulbs with LEDs that don't darken the plastic.
