United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) launched the Meet the Tôshikas (Japanese for investors) programme. Supported by catalytic funding from Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI), the programme aims to help African startups leverage the full potential of the startup ecosystem, address their financing needs, and unlock their growth potential.
A showcase was held on August 30, 2024, at the Tokyo Innovation Base (TIB) in Tokyo and online by UNDP. The event highlighted the potential of the startup ecosystems in Angola, South Africa, and Zambia, attracting the attention of startups, investors, and startup ecosystem builders from around the world, including Japan. Approximately 200 participants joined, including 148 online and 49 on-site. Participants represented 28 countries. This diverse group came together to explore the promising opportunities within the startup ecosystems of the three African countries.
