I just love hearing stories on how couples meet so I was just as invested as Fionna was and man I wish some of these things stayed in the episode, especially the cheese joke.

While I still consider Jerry a very high quality episode in terms of writing, I'm really lamenting knowing that these lines existed and were deemed unnecessary, they add A LOT to the characterization of Simon and Betty. I checked the other storyboards and while I could see many of the stuff removed resurfacing in Season 2, I have the feeling the time has already passed to feel the true relevancy of these lines.

I definitely agree, knowing the episode could’ve been even greater is unfortunate. But it’s great to know that these were released to the public and we got some insight into this in the first place!

I think Simon called Betty his princess in the original series in the flashback where Betty "ran way" just to go into the future. He exclaimed "Betty my princess!" while shooting ice magic, thinking he scared her away.

I think this scenes make a lot of sense. Like, missing piece of Simon's words about the crown was only option to protect Marcy. And Petrigrof scenes for me making less confusing about their pure love. And i guess, the crew was gone in a different direction, than what we got at the end. And also, can you tell about another storyboards, like Simon in 2 episode took out of his wallet Marcy's photo instead of Betty's. Or his dialog with Winter King where he mentioned Marcy.

Im nit so sure about us following Simon again for S2, since S1 did such a good job at concluding his franchise-long arc surrounding Betty, love and his future after Ice King. S2 would have to bring something completely fresh or different for it to be distinguished as a seperate story, continuing the events of before, one that would be unnecessary atm if Simon were to be a main protagonist again alongside Fionna and Cake. However, they could make it work; it just depends on the plan the showrunners had / have for the series and future plotlines for us to explore. I do believe Simon will be present, just to a lesser degree and less importance. His presence could easily serve to show us those details that couldnt fit inside S1 and expand on the themes that could be used for S2, similarly to other characters across the Multiverse like Jerry (the Lich), Shermy and Beth, PB, Marceline and Finn.

Thanks for making this video ! All of these storyboards add so much depth to Simon AND Betty's character that I feel like was sort of lost what was aired (now that we see what they intended) And I appreciate you bringing it to light because there are a lot of people misinterpreting their relationship in some ways and these boards really add to the way that, we as the fans saw their relationship in snippets in AT, but also how the writers really intended. I've been LOVING your AT/FnC videos a lot and really enjoyed your breakdown and analysis! Please keep it up :)

For me, as i said before, this deleted scenes make sense because it's making Simon and Betty's relationship less awkward than in the end result. And i was upset and angry about why creators made this power dynamic, making us believe that Simon is selfish and self-centered (for me Betty fits these characteristics more) and whitewashing Betty for her previous actions with MMS. It's series doing this, not fans. If I were asked to redo this, I would remove the power dynamics (Simon and Betty could get to know each other as students, not as a professor and a lover student, otherwise it seems to me that this is the love of an adult for a minor. It was necessary to show their similarities and differences. For example, Betty can do something without thinking, while Simon is more cautious in his decision-making. And (importantly!) show Simon's sacrifices for Betty), remove some dialogs, like Fionna's question about Simon hopping on the bus and go with Betty. Or leave it as the same, but with different answer from Simon. He could say he didn't go. He just wanted to confess his love and let Betty go on her journey. But Betty, who didn't want to go to Australia anymore because of her love for Simon and the fear that she wouldn't see him again, said, "Why would I? I want to stay with you," which surprises Simon and agree with her, that not to offend her. We can add Simon's reflections on the correctness of this choice. Sometimes he wondered if he had done the right thing by agreeing with Betty. Maybe things would have been different. Then the crown accident would not have happened. Simon doesn't say the word "crown" to not making Fionna upset, but Fionna understood it already and said it, based on the video of the Ice King. Simon asks how she knows this, but they are interrupted by BMO. And (i've mentioned it many times) will be better if "Casper and Nova" was a retelling of actual Simon and Betty's story and actions from OG series. Not as a metaphor about their relationship, because Casper and Nova aren't like Simon and Betty at all. This will make more sense for Simon reconsider his life from the viewer's point of view and Betty's actual actions to save him.

@@КатяКалинина-х6м I honestly feel that deleting these scenes is what makes their relationship more awkward. It’s choppy, rushed and little less heartfelt watching the episode with the knowledge of how the scenes could and should have gone. The storyboards paint their relationship as more mutual and caring and loving like giving meat to the bones we saw in AT. And while I understand that some of this I think writers doing in the power dynamic/selfish thing, it is a lot of fans taking it and running too far with it. I do not see Betty as selfish or self centered at ALL and I also don’t see Simon as this either. I think what Beth/casper/nova were trying to say was that Simon’s act of chasing the crown to go back and undo all of Betty’s work and sacrifices she made for him is what was selfish; not their whole relationship havjng this dynamic. She made all these choices bc she wanted to be with him and she loved him and she doesn’t regret it but he needs to recognize that it’s been that way from the start and if he loves her, he needs to see that and live his life fully and it undo everything she did. And so many fans interpret it differently and I think saw the professor/student thing (without accounting he wasn’t her professor, wasn’t that much older than her and she was graduate student in her mid 20s) and automatically think he was this older man’s who manipulated her into not following her dreams as a power play, and this not it at all. I could go on about this forever tbqh lol

@@ShinesparkDiscoKing yeah... But "Casper and Nova" for me making this lesson really awkward. Like should we blame Simon or not? Creators trying to tell us, that's is not Simon's fault, but doing this like IT IS HIS fault. It's really confusing. If it was done less awkward, I can see this. Without this "Simon is selfish from very beginning" interpretation, what separate fans. And personally for me, Betty's words about "have no regrets" is a whitewashing and have a double meaning. It's no regrets for be with Simon, but she have no regrets for her immoral acts with her MMS.

Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and I definitely plan on making more in the future. With the holiday season being so busy I have a lot of ideas and not a lot of time. And the second I saw these storyboards I knew they were something I wanted to share my thoughts on. The Petrigrof brainrot is really strong so I thought that the differences between the storyboards and the final episode were really interesting.

Hey since Fionna and Cake are having a 2nd season, I just want to know what are your predictions? Do you think we are still getting some stories about Simon and his journey of achieving happiness as well as love? Or do you think it will focus on what is going on with Betty and her adventures as a diety?

Great question! I'm still thinking we'll follow Fionna and Cake (obviously) but I also think we'll see Simon too! The show was built on those two worlds coming together so it only makes sense that the story will continue to follow their journeys. Now I'm also thinking that we're gonna learn about why Betty was glowing at the end of the season for sure, but whether that means she's still Golbetty or not is something we'll have to find out.

I mean, different version of "Cheers" ending, where, I don't know, both Simon and Betty realaze that they in equal way made mistakes. Without making Simon selfish for no-reason (my opinion).
