Thank you for sharing your expertise. Your videos have guided me through my first tiled shower. Thanks to you (Sal & Lanberg) it turned out beautiful and I'm confident it was done right! Our 40 year old tub/shower had to go out an exterior wall, rebuild the floor... I replaced the old copper with PEX:) Thank you so much, keep up the great work and keep spreading the ❤️

Isaac, Great looking install. I like that you used a long section of pipe with minimal fittings to get to the lower drop ear elbow. Do you check you shower head elbows for level? Those uponor pex to sweat male fittings can but a pain to solder. The flange of the fitting can make it tough to get solder into the joint. Its another reason why I like using premade 90 degree stub outs on the inlet side. I also like using those shark bite caps during my tear outs. When I remove them I will pull them off but also cut another inch or 2 of pipe off if there is enough pipe to do so. Those shark bites have silicone grease in them and the residue can inhibit soldering unless cleaned with a solvent. Silicone grease can withstand temps of up to 600 degrees which is within soldering temps.

As you are a perfectionist in tile work this isn’t perfection in plumbing. The other plumber must be a low quality plumber. Yeah pex has flexibility but a quality plumber takes greater pride in running his water lines neatly a formal looking. Steve Jobs father once told Steve when he was building a fence, to make the back side of the fence as pretty as the front side . Steve job was a perfectionist. Take pride in plumbing. I don’t just advertise Quality, I deliver it. And pex was designed for flexibility but to allow the pipe to expand in case of a freeze, not to throw it in like spaghetti. Having a master license doesn’t make you a quality plumber. And yes I too hold a master, an RMP at that, so what I’m saying it’s not a big ego it’s pride of being a plumber. Heck I’ve worked as a plumber for to long to be a half azz plumber who make excuses for why it’s better to not use fittings. Quality… it’s all about taking pride in being a true tradesman/women.

By my understanding forming and looping pex is way better than using 90's, the more fittings you use the more the flow is restricted since the fittings have a smaller diameter than the pex itself. Obv you don't want to bend it until it kinks I didn't see any of that here
@vic_theplumbert8212

Trust me I’ve Repiped so many homes that have 90’s and tees and every homeowner have always praised how great the pressure has increased. I used to think like many who start off using fittings. It sounds logical but in my experience fittings don’t restrict, lol. Honestly it’s lazy. I am all about quality and appearance even if it will covered by Sheetrock, I know if it was thrown together.
@vic_theplumbert8212
@vic_theplumbert8212 2 жыл бұрын
That’s the problem with many who accept the short cut way out. And I don’t blame homeowners when they complain about pricing. If I see that a licensed plumber performs like a handyman he deserves to lower his pricing. I didn’t go for my journeyman for nothing, I had a vision of going for my master. And once I had it why then start with not caring about my work. Look all I’m saying is if your gonna be a plumber then be a plumber. I didn’t get this far as a plumber “RMP” to say well I made it to the top so now I don’t care about the trade and delivering quality. I don’t just advertise quality I deliver it. Not like many who say their quality but plumb like a rookie who’s not hungry to master his trade. This tiler here is a good tiler but as a plumber, he’s not a quality plumber. Heck he’s probably not even an apprentice. Walk it like you talk it, plumbers.
@Anytus2007
@Anytus2007 2 жыл бұрын
@@vic_theplumbert8212 If you're talking about PEX-A, then sure, the fittings are basically the same internal diameter as the pipe, so there isn't a significant flow restriction. Similarly with copper. PEX-B is a different story and that's what a lot of the advice to minimize the number of fittings is aimed at. There's also the issue of pressure drop when using PEX fittings, especially the poly plastic ones. It may not be an issue where you live and work. But here we have quite a lot of bored well water supply systems, so the pressure coming into the house is quite a bit less than what you get on a municipal water system. The water also tends to be quite hard without a dedicated water softener system. To my mind, that calls for a 2-step solution. First, use poly plastic fittings over brass to eliminate degradation due to mineral deposits (I had to replumb my own house after about 30 years due to pinhole leaks in copper from mineral degradation). Second, minimize the number of fittings that you have to use to maintain the highest pressure possible to the fixtures.

@@TileCoach just a diy'er but I redid my whole house with manifolds and pex 10 years ago. Had to go with the crimped on connectors due to cost though. Still works great and I'm happy

Dewalt has one that is $320 without the battery. Makes plumbing go fast and no worrying about bad solder joints.

@@zardoz2627 For a DIY who isn't very concerned about speed, they also make a manual pex expander tool. Its like $100, which isn't a ton more than the crimp tools.

First the positives: 1. Milwaukee expansion tool 🔥 2. Uponor PEX 🔥 3. Love the laser level in valve Negatives: 1. Delta valves or delta anything 👎💩 2. Uponor colored PEX has been discontinued due to failure. Now it's all clear with red and blue lettering. 3. Wall is completely open and you run PEX to shower head? Cmon' man 4. Personally like to have at least 12 to 16 inches of copper coming out of valve body. 5. Upgrade that torch and flux 6. And the biggest issue of all ...... DeWalt impact 😒
