There’s something about those who want to act like Bird was better than MJ, he points out 2 games. Well after they got Pippen the Bulls and Celtics played more than twice, and why isn’t he talking about the playoffs that year why the regular season. It annoys me because seeing how the 20 something’s and younger didn’t get to see these games, and trying to say that the Bulls couldn’t beat the Celtics is just crap. Why don’t they have the rings? I wish I could get into the comment section of the guy who made this bs. Again, Bird was incredible and a great rival for Magic, but they weren’t even a threat by the time the bulls beat the bad boys. Just to set the record straight. Look into the Magic and Bird rivalry though, as that is really good

It's futile debating who is the best over all other players of that level and especially Jordan & Bird, two totally different approaches to the game because of their individual and very opposite strengths and skills. I love Jordan, Kobe and Bird.....they are the G.O.A.T.S. Magic also. I have my more than honorable mentions list too because those two decades were golden....I'm gutted by the direction of the league now with the modifications, well, to me, basically neutered this game, took the battle, the balls and the blood out of it, and load management?! Are you serious??? OOPS....Sorry, starting to go feral. lol...This is an issue that just hurts my feelings. And as far as Bird & Magic not being a threat when the Bulls came finally came up...well of course they weren't ...they were both a lot older facing inevitable retirement from the injuries, Bird had problems requiring surgery on both Achilles tendons but played thru a serious back condition also. Magic was forced into retirement due to HIV. So looking at the dynamic that Jordan was a non-issue in the game, until 1991, it took 7 years for MJ to come up, have a great day!

The summer before his rookie year which was Magic's rookie year also Bird was playing a baseball game and his brother hit the ball and went down to make a basket catch and shattered his knuckle on his pointer finger. Had to have two surgeries but the couldn't straighten it out and it was permanently shaped like a boomerang pointing towards his thumb. He said he never had the same feel for the ball. Their rookie year was also the year the 3 point line was introduced. He and Magic played on a special team in college and then their teams met in the finals. Larry's team had gone 33-0. Magic's team won. The rivalry began which they made a great documentary about. Bird grew up dirt poor. They didn't have a car, TV or phone until he was a teenager. The documentary is great. A Courtship of Rivals. You learn so much about both of them. When they started in the NBA games of the highest level were being tape delayed for black and white movies and reruns. They said the rivalry between them saved the NBA. They weren't even filling half the seats when they started and they were packing the arenas. They said at Bird's retirement ceremony they didn't even have it on a game night and it sold out. Also, Bird broke his back in 85 shoveling gravel building his mom's driveway. You should check out Making the Case. Very informative and so is the video, five times Larry Bird was injured but refused to quit and there's another one the 4 times Larry Bird was hurt but showed toughness. The injuries are mind blowing. Plus Robert Parish said that Larry never took pain pills, shots or pain blockers in his entire career. I can understand that though because his basketball IQ was everything and he wasn't going to cloud his thought process Plus he watched his dad go to work doing construction with a busted ankle. Larry said if you're getting paid to go to work, you go to work. His work ethic was amazing. He and Magic made their teams better and made each other better. Larry's passing video is great. He could have played quarterback. If you ever see it you'll know exactly what I mean. His aim was crazy great. Really enjoyed your reactions guys. Looking forward to the next one.

I’m sorry but anyone who makes excuses for Jordan bcuz he was just getting started, or bcuz he “didn’t have a team around him” needs to take a look at Larry’s career….his ROOKIE year, he gave the Celtics the biggest season turnaround in NBA HISTORY! A 32 GAME IMPROVEMENT OVER THE PREVIOUS SEASON, & HE DID IT WITHOUT PARISH, MCHALE, DJ OR AINGE. Many of his teammates were on the brink of retirement: Cowens & Maravich were toast. Tiny Archibald was almost done for, and most of the rest would be gone in a few years.…the only other recent recruit was Cedric Maxwell, & he was not the superstar that Larry was. Jordan did not have the ability to elevate his teammates the way Larry did. Jordan was a showboating gloryhound who didn’t know how to be a good teammate! Larry on the other hand elevated the whole team! So miss me with the excuses for Jordan.. Larry is the best all around player EVER. EDIT TO ADD: IMO the reason Jordan dominated in the 90s is bcuz all the 80s greats aged out & Jordan didn’t have the same level of competition. Just for the record, tho: Bird's rookie year - the Celtics went from having a 29-53 record the previous season, second from the bottom of the league, to a 61-21 season. In Bird's rookie year. Wait a minute. You have to understand that some great players get drafted into situations that fits their style of play early and some don't. I watched Bird and Magic from their first NBA seasons til their last and was convinced they were two of the top five to ever play the game. When MJ came into the league I knew after the first season I was looking at someone on a completely different level as an individual player. When you speak on what a team accomplishes with the addition of a great rookie player that fits right with the type of ball the coach and organization plays then you had some good luck. MJ has the, or, one of the best rookie seasons ever, statistically. So being the right fit for a certain team of players will bring better results. Going to a team that is totally unorganized and you as a rookie are the only bright spot for the teams future means you have to totally remove and add players until you get the right chemistry. Basketball is a team sport at the end of the day. And when you look at the teams MJ, Bird and Magic had around them you have to say MJ did it with less help. That shows you just how good he really was.

Larry not only broke his back but had a piece of a disc removed from his back. He was amazing. There was no player in the history of the nba that had the injuries he had and could still come out and dominate the game the way he did. Bird could shoot lights out from everywhere on the court, rebound like a power forward and had the court vision of a point guard. The best overall player I have ever seen.

I remember the announcers saying all the time, well the teammates need to step up and help Jordan, he can't do it by himself but when you're shooting the ball more than all your teammates combined each game how do you as a teammate help in the scoring, you aren't getting to shoot, all you're there for is to get the ball and get the ball to Jordan, play D#, get the ball to Jordan. It always annoys me when people focus on the fact that MJ didnt have his best team around him in those early matches , whereas Bird Did. However it rarely gets mentioned that in the games when MJ did have his championship team with him in the early 90s he was playing against a sever;y injured Bird playing with an inferior Celtics team and STILL couldnt beat him more than he lost. I think in some ways larry bird was a blue print to many players. He showed how to statistically play the game perfectly. You gotta be mobile. You gotta work as a team as even massive showboats like Jordan can be beaten if your team is stronger than one man. Passes that kept you guessing. Three pointers that turned the tide of matches. Most important was the psychological warfare. Jordan has admitted he learned psychological warfare from bird as bird was a master at it jordan learned how to raise his prestige to a point that he became a threat even if he wasn't on the court. That is why bird had such a high regard among legends. You hear many from the early days to the present talk about bird you will hear all of them agree that bird was a trailblazer that set new trends for others to follow. If you do not believe me then consider this fact. Bird is the founding member of the 50 40 90 club. No one else before him had that. He set that example and since then very few have come close and even fewer have joined that club. Just looking at how few guys are in that club really says alot. By the way, jordan is not in that club.

The Bulls were an 8 seed both years, the Celtics were a 1 seed. The Bulls had zero all-stars or all-nba because Mike broke his foot and missed 64 games the first year year… the Celtics had 3 all-stars, the 6th man of the year and league mvp. The next year it was the exact same teams.

He was a very successful behind-the-scenes guy and won lots of awards yada yada yada. What I’m saying is your integrity he worked hard and that was really his Secret. Mike took a while to understand that it takes a whole team to win. One man can only do so much. Larry was great at getting his whole team into win mode. Mikes personal stats are unbelievable. But it wasn’t enough to beat an entire team. Especially the Celtics. Joe Dumars of the pistons said it best. He said the team was nearly impossible to beat because you could not make a mistake. Or it would cost you the game.

Athleticism over length and weight? Idk bro MJ 1v1 with all the space in the world beats Bird but in a 5v5 with limited space I'm taking the dude who has more size and the skill to use that size. Simply more versatile, brings just as much impact to winning as Jordan does without having to score as much. He rebounds better, sets screens better, passes better and gets his team open better, being 6'10 is harder to double than a 6'6 guy cause he can pass over you and see the floor better, his shooting and offball movement creating double teams at the 3pt line before he even gets the ball, to me Bird and MJ are on even ground Bird is the most versatile player ever MJ is the perfect 2 way guard. But both of them get outclassed by a prime Wilt and so does everyone in history.

The Bulls had a very good team. THEY MADE THE PLAYOFFS! Charles Oakley(power forward), Brad Sellers (F) 7.0' #1 Draft pick, John Paxon (G), Dave Corzine 6'11"(C), Sedale Threatt (G). etc.. MJ was a lot of fun to watch and had a winning record but always had problems with the upper echelon teams. Because the better teams moved the ball around better. Watch in this video how MJ rarely looks to pass to an open teammate. These are pro players. In MJ's early years he was going to get his. Inexperienced leadership and poor ball movement hurt the Bull's for seven years before MJ won his first Championship. Once he did though...Unbeatable! They were really great entertainment to watch.
