I’m currently an 3rd Year Architecture Student, and I’ve been thinking a lot about the topic discussed in this video. I create renders and visualization at least twice or once a day because I enjoy it, and I’ve been thinking if it’ll be the same once I graduate or if there will be more project management and stuff rather than the creative and fun part of architecture. This video helped me become more knowledgeable about what I’m going to do in the future. So thank you!

Thank you Alex. You changed my views on visual renders from generic 3d view of the building to a form of visual art when I found your videos and blog back in 2012. It's still hold value to me and inspire me to move from architectural practice into arch visual artist, hoping I can become a full time arch viz artist soon.

I started working in an architecture firm in 1986 back in the UK. Sitting at my drawing board churning out work. I could easily do quick perspectives with a thin and fat pentel pen on trace. I feel like Alex and I are lost cousins. I did my first 3d image in 1998 using Autoshade. It was 256 colours only but my presentation won the office the job. Ever since then I've done 3d in autocad, mostly as wire frames because there wasn't a rendering software available. I remember 3ds max when it first came out and was running DOS. I picked up Sketchup and I haven't looked back. I can't even remember the commands in Autocad these days to do a 3d solid. I never liked using Max as is was totally unintuitive coming from a cad background I've done loads of visuals over the years but I was in the right place at the wrong time. No one wanted arch vis people back then. I completely understand his references to working in offices. I wanted to spend my time designing but as I was getting older, offices wanted me to do meetings and CA. I told them no. I would love nothing more that to work for a visualisation firm but I live in nowheresville MD now. I'd be happy to work for some company remotely though.

Going forward, how do I future-proof my career if I will continue on this path as a 3d artist for architecture and Interior design?

Do i really need to study a degree course to become a architecture renderer or can i study the software and learn by myself, my aim is to work as a freelancer
@alexanderrv9342 Жыл бұрын
@@mohamedanas2739 you don't need a degree as such. Studying architecture does help to understand the plans and everything, but a degree to be a renderer is not like that. What is needed is to learn the software well with a course, review photography, composition, and then start uploading your work on social networks (this is your portfolio) so that people can see what you do and thus make yourself known and maybe work for someone else or be a freelancer.

@hanifzaki71563 жыл бұрын
Connection helps too. It gets better if you're working in diverse office. When my previous project manager decided not to resume his working contract and going back to his hometown, he still looking for me to do some visual renders. That's where I do freelance here in Malaysia while my visual work is use in New Zealand. Not a big project but it's a start.
@philipkelly95213 жыл бұрын
My advise would be work in the background, do work for the office you are working for. When you about 10-20 projects done and your happy with them, don't just stop at the images the architect wants do your own version of the project too, then say your setting up on your own and work will come your way. You won't need to advertise, sure have a website as an online portfolio, but trust me your work will stand for itself. Alway deliver more than they asked for.

I am surprise about the lack of mention of the real architect work, which is a bigger responsibility within the society to build culture in the city, making the building technically feasible and appealing inside and out. Also, out generation have a huge responsibility to lift up the sustainable construction and design as we are in a race to reduce global warming. Personally I am not a fan of renders or visualizations, I think committing to a determent image of the project before you are in Construction Document phase limits the normal evolution of the design through the phases of the project and makes the client be rigid to that first initial image, in the other hand open sketches and concepts allow the design to be alive from the beginning to the end. Renders are great just to create fun images or develop theoretical projects of course.
@azamhuq3 жыл бұрын
Thing is alot of times, clients don't "visualise" the way we do with drawings. I am speaking from experience. The 3D images don't need to necessarily be top quality but they should be clear and direct enough to get a design approval sign off from the client, before doing final construction drawings. Of course in early stages things should be more general, start with sketches, get the general concept approved. Then schematic layouts, then getting into a more 'real' visual representation with construction documents. The end result of the design with tender drawings, are usually where the bulk of the desin is finalised (also for reasons of fee payments and cash flow, without constant changes etc.) With this, it'll be good to have clear 3D images to sign off. Then you do construction documentation. Of course there may be changes, but at this point there really shouldn't be major changes in layout etc. As it will be an expense on the firm + other consulting parties, regardless of 3D or not. That's why you get the tender set/ 3D signed off, if the client decides to make a change, the consultants can get paid a variation for the extra work. It depends on the scale and complexity of the project. A house with fairly flexible contractors or local builders can be done in a much more flexible way, and working on site itself is great. But most projects cannot work that way, contractors would charge for variations, things cannot be quoted for, and large projects have expectations and deadlines that go beyond the architectural aspect. They have to be processed by various people who need to know what they're spending time and money on.
