I come back to this band again and again, love the cat stretchy step of the male majorettes. It reminds of the old zoot suit cats doing their dance in the 20's and 30's. Such pride in the band and in the school. Well done ladies and gents!!

@@aldaciochp8592 it’s called a black college bc they were founded after slavery when most colleges wouldn’t accept black students as a place where they could go to further their education, or get an education at all. Nowadays, every one is accepted and many white students do attend however, they are still a haven for black students.
@TheTraveller20081 Жыл бұрын
Finally I get it, with your comment ref the old zoot suiters. YT has shown me a couple of these bands and I just thought they looked odd, with the crazy 'knees up Mother Brown' marching step and the odd dance moves - but yes, back to the roots of 20s and 30s hip catz dancers. The rhythm and musicality is epic. Not sure I see the point of the troupe of girls in swimsuits not doing a lot, though. I guess it's a culture that I don't understand from never having seen it til just lately on YT. But they all seem to be having fun - even if in some cases they look like they're taking it _extremely_ seriously!

Great job KSU! Very proud of this band. For the few whites on this thread talking about the lack of diversity or that there's only one white in the band, here's a little history for you - this is a Historically Black College or University (HBCU). That means it was a college established, after the abolishment of slavery, in the South where blacks were only allowed to attend due to racist Jim Crow LAWS (yes, it was the law - remember!). Blacks couldn't attend UK or U of L, among all other southern white schools, so they went to HBCUs. HBCUs never have and never will discriminate. But, ALL of the southern white ones did at one time. Although these schools were denied resources (again because of the laws) they survived, still exist, and traditionally have maintained predominately black student bodies. Further, due to this tradition some whites will not go to these schools even today but they can. Some whites have a severe case of amnesia when it comes to historical and diabolical racism, segregation, and discrimination. Just the facts!
