If you’re also a carpenter in the USA like I am, part of the problem is people choose speed over quality. Many “higher end” builders don’t even want you adding biscuits to door and window casing. Seems like a cultural difference.

You are a one stop shop. You do everything. Here in the states most trades have specialized. A stair builder might build only stairs. Someone that doesn’t specialize might forget about the floor thickness on the ground floor and the second floor causing stumbling. And they only have to buy tools for that specialty. I have built cabinets and trim most of my work career. But when I work on my own house I do it all including plumbing and electrical.

My wife and I built our home in the US and we built our stairs like this. We used a router and template but the end result was the same. Stairs that don't move, don't squeak, and fit perfectly. Definitely more work but the end result is worth it. Being able to do details like this is why we built the house ourselves. We wouldn't get the same quality by having a builder build it.

The pride and craftmanship is amazing! YET! Given almost everything made of softwood has a finite lifespan, everything shown will decompose back to the earth. The thing to remember, like drinking a fine bottle of wine, is to respect the man who made it and appreciate his skill and hard work to bring you enjoyment. Everything poured into his projects reflects the dedication to his craft with the eye towards that enjoyment. How many children, adults, and elderly will climb this simple staircase, not hearing a sound, not having a worry, all because of Mr. Shoyan's dedication.
