Hhh oikawa didn't actually single out Tanaka as a weak link.. He targeted him because he is the "loud one", the one who keeps the team energy & moral up with his loudness & cheering etc. So if he targets him & makes him lose heart, that will mentally pressure him & quieten him, bringing the team energy down in the process...But Tanaka's mentality was stronger than that so he pulled himself out of it on his own so that's on Tanaka's amazing mental fortitude

That line, “I’m Hinata Shoyo, from the concrete” is one of my favorite lines in this show. It shows that these boys (karasuno vb) came all together, starting from scratch, working out their teamwork, their play, and connections between each other. Came from a public school, only recognized as “flightless crows”, constantly being ignored by media despite of their wins (I'm still pissed about it). Takeda made all of this possible for these boys, and these boys didn't fail him or put his hard work and passion for nothing🤍

So the goal is the Spring tournament which will be the best schools of all of Japan facing each other in Tokyo. For that to happen there will be preliminaries in each prefecture first, and the winners of those preliminaries will then go to the actual Spring tournament. Karasuno is from the prefecture Miyagi together with Seijo (Aoba Johsai), Date Tech, Shiratorizawa and others. Nekoma (and Fukurodani which were mentioned this episode) are from Tokyo. That's why they can only officially play each other when both of them win in their respective preliminary tournaments (which is also why the teams never faced each other in the past, since Karasuno and Nekoma never managed to do that at the same time) Btw, the second season is my personal favorite. It just has so many great character moments and developments, I truly adore it

Just some correction: - Its true that they need to win their respective preliminary to advance to Spring Tournament but its not applied for every Prefecture. For example Tokyo, Hokkaido, Kanagawa etc got double represantative slots due to their size which means getting into preliminary finals already enough to qualified for Nationals even tho they lose in the final. Just like Fukurodani who also got 2nd place for Tokyo prefecture. Also, another way is getting the Venue Host Slot. The only way to obtain this slot is by getting the 3rd place in qualifier. However this only applied to the prefecture that got the venue representative slot. As we know for that year Spring Tournament was held in Tokyo which gave Nekoma the extra tickets qualified for Nationals.

Harukō (the Spring Tournament) happens in January. It used to be held in spring, hence the name, but they moved it up in order to allow the third years to still be able to participate (because ordinarily they would have already graduated by then -- late March or even early April). In order to get there, you have to win in your prefecture. Almost all of the 47 prefectures only get a single representative, aside from Tokyo, Hokkaido, Osaka and Kanagawa who get 2 because of their size (and Tokyo gets an additional 1, totaling 3, because it is always the host city). Karasuno is from Miyagi prefecture. Nekoma is from Tokyo. To meet at Harukō, Karasuno has to win in all of Miyagi and Nekoma has to finish within the top 3. And then they have to be sorted into the same bracket, or win enough in their individual brackets and meet in the later rounds, to get an official match. That is such slim, slim chance.

Just sharing some random volleyball facts but Ushijima wakatoshi or Ushiwaka's words have no malice. He simply says it as it is. If you've watched volleyball you'll realize that a good setter can make or break a team. If the setter is great, he can make an ordinary team look good but a mediocre setter can make a great team look bad. Also, recently, a lot of teams have been developing all rounder players (good at serving, receiving, blocking, hitting and even at setting) just to diversify their game plays. And I loved how Haikyuu showcases that. Excited for you guys to meet Fukurodani school as well as Ushijima's team❤

So I’m back to point out another small detail why I love the naming themes in this show. So we know Karasuno represents crows (karasu in Japanese) and Nekoma is cats (neko). Shiratorizawa represents the white bird from the kanji in its name 白鳥沢 Shiratori with the kanji 白=white and 鳥=bird. 白鳥 together actually spells the word Swan but the Japanese word for swan is pronounced differently since the kanji are read differently (hakuchou) so which is probably why they are represented with a different white bird. The zawa part in the school’s name 沢(sawa) means marsh which makes me think they are actually more fitted to represent a swan lol. But the eagle choice makes more sense for Ushiwaka’s team.

jsut think of prefectures like states. imagine USA national tournament but each state can only bring x amount of teams. so each state has all schools compete each other and winners go to nationals. Basically only way for nekoma and karasuno to compete in official match is if they both win their own prefecture (state) competition and move to nationals where all the state winners compete.

regarding "JAPAN" shouting. Japanese people dont call their country japan, they call it nihon (similar to how germans call germany "deutschland" ) and "japan" is international representation and term for nihon. that makes a divide between players that play locally like hinata (so far he only played in his own prefecture) and elite players who can play internationally. And those elite players are playing for japan (international term for nihon) rather than for nihon. So that is why hinata shouts "JAPAN" when he sees ushiwaka cause he saw in newspaper that ushiwaka plays for japan

The preliminary tournaments are within a prefecture. The team that wins in the prefecture gets to go to the Nationals. National level tournaments will be the only games where teams from different prefectures can play against each other. For eg: Shiratorizawa has been going to the nationals from Miyagi (the same prefecture as Karasuno, Seijoh, Date tech etc) If Karasuno manages to win all the tournaments in Miyagi, they will be able to go to Nationals. And if Nekoma also gets selected from Tokyo, then there is a chance for them to play against each other in an official tournament (depending upon the brackets)

the tournaments start local at the prefecture level and the winners of the prefecture rounds get to go to nationals. All the official matches we've had so far are local teams to Miyagi prefecture. Nekoma is a tokyo team, and for reference Sendai, the capital of Miyagi prefecture is about 370 km away from Tokyo or 3 hours by train, 4 by car. There is no way for a miyagi school to have an official match with nekoma all the way in tokyo without beating the local tournament and going to nationals. In this case they basically need to get through both seijoh and shiratorizawa if they ever want to take on nekoma in an official match at nationals.
