its pretty easy to get into, once your workshop is setup. my first basic forge cost me about 300€, and most people have some feasible tools already at home (wrenches, hammers)

I know right!? I am a welder/ironworker by trade, but here in the Vancouver BC area, space is money, and its hard to have enough room to have a 'shop'

I had the fair amount of luck of being born into a rural region, with an old german timber framed house. Those tend to be a bit larger than what you would usually have close to a larger city and most of them have small barns, providing basically a great place to start a shop. And nearly every village had a smith at some point, so old but still perfectly working tools are really easy to come by.

I am utterly fascinated by the idea and would love to try it, but realistically I don't believe I have the patience that would be required. (Or the eye for proportions)

You'd be amazed how that evaluation suddenly changes when you take your first glowing bilet out of the forge and start hammering away. Forming steel with ones own hands is an amazing experience. I never had a manual labor job and didn't think I could get anything done in that field. It takes only a couple of short weekends to go from metallurgic abomination to fairly fine knife. The mastery, which takes years and decades, lies within the details... choosing certain alloys, laminating steel, damascene production, carving and all that.

Michealcthulhu does amazing work! And does it by himself with not so state of the art type of tools mind you. Now don't get me wrong here Man at Arm crew do some cool things from now and then but the work they do does not compare what Mich does but that's just me tho. If you don't agree then check out Buster blade that was done by both and you choose who really puts craftsmanship and detail.

depends. with the team they have and their AWE some skills it Dosen't take as long as one blacksmith

Especially given they have to produce weapons and armour for their normal clients as well, including likely hundreds of movie props and prop weapons per year, as well as non-commercial clients. There doesn't appear to be 'seasons' for the series, with downtime used to make the weapons pending the season. My guess is that they pick one thing a week to do with the time and resources they have between other clients, get someone else to handle the simplex inventory, and try and build a backlog.
