How is that concrete acrylic sealer working for you, does it turn yellow overtime?

Yeh it good. It has an UV protection in the sealer. But having said that all boards will turn a slight yellow eventually. That’s just the nature of having foam in the sun.

orbital sander with vacuum hose👍 good idea. why does everyone install fin boxes after glass though? doesnt futures consider it a before glass fin box?
@Shrednaught3 жыл бұрын
I do post lam install for tints. You can’t see air bubbles under dark tints and if you sand the air bubbles open it makes the install look ugly. Clears I’ll always go into foam pre lam
@loki4753 жыл бұрын
ah ok that makes sense. im a "function over form" type. that stuff bothers me😉

Hey bro, this board looks sick. what grit sand paper do you sand down the fibreglass layers once they have hardened, before doing the hot coat? Cheers
@Shrednaught3 жыл бұрын
I use 80grit mirka pads. They don’t seem as aggressive as standard paper. Using standard is probably look at 120 .
@sizzleslider43343 жыл бұрын
@@Shrednaughtcheer for that mate. is that the same for when you sand down the hot coat aswell, and then the gloss coat?
@Shrednaught3 жыл бұрын
Yeh. My sanding is all done with the mirka pads. They’re unbelievably good. So it would generally go 80 grit for all the heavy lifting. Opening boxes/leash plugs and sanding down first fill coats. Then 120 - 240 and then the sealer and then 360 polish pad or equivalent to knock all the zits outta that. This is just for the standard matte finish.

Hey man! great vid as always! Really enjoy learning from your vids :) I'm about to shape my first surfboard and am now shopping for some tools but am a bit lost. I know there's a lot of info on 'industry standard' tools but they're quite expensive. Any low/mid price electric sanders and planers you can recommend?
@Shrednaught3 жыл бұрын
Hey man, thanks 🤙 As far as low priced tools are concerned you can get away with the cheapest ones you can find. Not sure where you’re located but in Australia I used a ryobi planer and polisher sander for years and they’re not very expensive at all. There are ones even cheaper and they still work.. but just remember the cheaper the tool the quicker it’ll break so just keep that in mind when thinking about the purchase. If you’re thinking of doing a few more boards than one I’d look at the mid range stuff as it won’t break super easy 🤘
@nada44902 жыл бұрын
Nice work mate .. Can you share how much resin you use to make this board ? Cheers from Portugal.
@Shrednaught2 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate 🤙 yeh this was a standard shortboard but I did do the resin swirl which always takes more resin than just a clear. You could get away with 2 litres but I’d say 3 litres is a safer bet. My advice is to always have a little more resin rather than not enough 🤘

There is something i don't understand, why when you sand the overlap of the top lamination (so the unverlap is under the board), there is no accumulation of resin on the sanding pad, did you add the wax in resin ? because i really can't sand when i dont put wax in the resin, so the only time i sand my board is after the hot coat

@Shrednaught3 жыл бұрын
Because of the tint. If I place the boxes under a dark tint and fail to see any air bubbles when I sand them open it’ll open the air bubbles cavity’s and making the install look messy.
