Board dimensions are 6'2 x 19 1/2 x 2 1/2
PU/Poly // Glassed 4x4+4 / Futures quad - Single concave nose to tail.
Follow me over at instagram / shrednaught
I went with a slightly wider tail and quads as I have large feet and If I don't get my back foot exactly where I need it I feel my foot hanging off the tail on more narrow tails. This is a perfect example why everyone should work with a shaper and get boards customised to their personal preferences.
Ive ridden the board a few times since the build and I have to say I love it.
Please feel free to leave comment if you have any questions regarding this build or any others.
Thanks.

Just finished my second surf on a board my dad and I shaped together. He's shaped all of my boards and I owe him so much. A Frankenstein small board with little nose rocker, flyers, 5 fin setup, v in the tail on the rounded pin, and it flies. Thank your shapers, they put so much work, thought, effort and love into these things. Hoping that both papa will read this, and that you'll receive the collective thanks from your viewers. Hope your life things are going well also, and that this thing flies - love quads!

Nice job. I learned a couple new things. Thank you! 1) Do you eyeball masking the rails for painting? 2) Did you dig into the bottom sides of the leash plug hole with the head of the screw in order to make the bond stronger? 3) What is that clear stuff you are applying at 17:31? Gloss? 4) Where can I buy a roller like the one you rolled the glass down with after you cut the lap? Thanks again!🤙🏼🏄🏻‍♂️

Yeh I just eye balled the tape lines on this one. As it’s a personal board I try force myself to get better with things like that. The clear stuff is clear acrylic. Do any hand shapers use a 2'or 4' precision carpenters level to level the bottom or deck? How are the rail and deck thickness symmetrical on each side of center without checking the bubble? When you put a rail profile gauge on each side of the board do they match? Curious! 🤙🏼✌🏼
@Shrednaught
@Shrednaught Жыл бұрын
I don’t use a spirit level. I use an 8ft ally bar to get my rocker set. I then use a 3ft flat sanding block to flush everything up. Once you have a 90* outline and true bottom you run your rail measurements from there. Several rail band numbers are used then the same amount of screening both sides. You can then go to a rail gauge but I prefer to use my eyes and hands. After a few years of doing it you can get it almost perfect. Nothing is ever 100% but that’s life 😅

In the case of having a 3-piece tail pad, do you think putting the center piece is an easier place to start with? I start with the sides first and honestly its a gamble most of the time.
@Shrednaught
@Shrednaught Жыл бұрын
I’m definitely no pro when it comes to putting on tail pads. But I’ve found that the middle section of the tail pad you can line up to the stringer and get it relatively straight that way. Then the side bits just fit in next to the middle. Tbh I still mess them up even doing it that way 😅

This vid has so much to digest 😅. Always appreciate you work man. I have a question regarding the final acrylic coat. I'm trying to replicate this... bought some acrylic floor sealer... but when I apply the acrylic I get a ton of little bubbles (using a foam roller). I'm wondering if you experience the same thing or if you apply it with a different type roller, or if your sealer just doesn't bubble 🤷
@Shrednaught
@Shrednaught Жыл бұрын
I use a high density foam. Sometimes I get bubbles if I go too quick but other than that it doesn’t really affect me. Maybe it’s the acrylic you have? I use a concrete sealer acrylic
@andrewmercado60
@andrewmercado60 Жыл бұрын
@@Shrednaught Thanks. Yeah I am using a high density roller as well. I guess my acrylic formula is just prone to bubbles. I'm using Concrete Coatings SuperSeal 20WB here in the States. Anyway the bubbles seemed to be less noticeable after drying, so I will try to scuff them out with some 400 grit later.

Hey Shred. Back in my youth (80's 90's) I used to shape the odd board and make glass fins for a few extra quid. Someone else glassed my boards. I'm building an old man board now (in my 50's) and have a question. Do you add wax in styrene on your lam or just on the hot coat?? I just noticed any bumps sand pretty easy without sticky mess. I remember missing the WIS on a lamination I did for a centre fin and that sucker would not sand 😁 Cheers from Cornwall England
@Shrednaught
@Shrednaught Жыл бұрын
Good stuff mate! The lam is only resin no wax in styrene. Only add wax to the fill coat to allow sanding. The wax creates a film on top of the resin which allows full cure for sanding but if used in laminated layers in could cause delam between glass. Good luck with your build and hit me up if you need any more help 👍

Luke and Joe have both given excellent tips. It’s hard to give an exact fix without seeing how big/deep we’re talking. I don’t think sanding it down is worth it. You want the board how you designed it. Aesthetics are secondary here. Holes will effect the colour when glassing if it’s a deep rich colour they will show darker when filled with resin. Work with the ideas given and if they don’t work we can try figure out another solution. Good luck 🤙
