Being a skateboarder as well, the one thing that I realized that really makes your tail do the work is remembering to really pull up on the front leg, which you have to do in a skateboard Ollie
@eddiemanzani9365 Жыл бұрын
would you say doing an ollie with on a snowboard is just the same movement on a skateboard? or are there subltle differences?
@bjornklein935 Жыл бұрын
Yes there are differences, some of them more than subtle. The main one is that on a skateboard when you push down on the tail, the tail drops (because you are kind of off the ground on your wheels) versus on a snowboard, the first board movement will be the nose coming up and your tail is already as far down as it will get. The second big difference is that a skate Ollie involves a lot of footwork, where a snowboard Ollie is far more of a whole body weight movement.
@fvnt0miix9539 ай бұрын
@@eddiemanzani9365 Personally I find snowboard ollies are much easier than on a skateboard. You don’t have the “fear factor” of not landing on the board and fall. Also, the footwork is much less. I got a really nice Ollie on my snowboard the first time I tried it on flat ground with the correct technique of using the tail to pop off the ground. However, it took a lot more practice on a skateboard.
@Telmuun19 ай бұрын
Ollie’s on a skateboard is I’m guessing so much more difficult in fact some take years to really hone it in. When first learning to skateboard your recommended to take a little while just getting comfortable. You also have to kick your front foot in order to fully level it out. Popping is also much different. If you have a good Ollie than there is no factor of not landing on the board because the motion you use keeps the board with your feet.

Love this snow board for my 7 year old son. He wanted to learn how to snowboard and this was a perfect board to try out his skills. The Velcro binding is way better then the plastic. It makes for easy on and off because he still does need to walk back up the hill. This board is not meant for the ski slopes but perfect for the steep hills and golf courses are our neighborhood. best ollie video, will try soon we have snow!!! nerd question: I thought that a ollie on a snowboard was loading the tail and because of camber stiffness it was going to eject you, like, you jumping from one leg assisted with the board spring. But if it's like a skateboard, you ollie as high you can jump yourself and the spring is just to bring the board up. What is the case, should I just bring my backlag or try to jump with that after bring front leg up? maybe is a question of who never properly ollied

I’ve had probably a total of 20 days in the mountain spread throughout a span of 10 years, I learned as a kid with 11 years old and it feels like riding a bike, you never forget how to ride but doing jumps? It seemed way to distant until this year, I didn’t go to any park or big jumps because it’s 2 days and I don’t want to ruin them injuring my self but I had massive fun learning how to ollie, take off on the side of the track and the little bumps, trying 180’s (almost had them). Snowboard is way too fun, I’m glad I can do just those 2/3 days a year.

Hey, really nice tutorial! just a couple of question from an intermidiate/advance level snowborder: 1) When you are going really fast on the track in order to jump over an edge and so do a massive ollie ( 50-60 km/h - 3 to 5 mt jump ollie) how do you balance urself just before the takeoff? Is it correct to take off wile riding on toeside/ heelside ? 2) where do i need too look before the takeoff? With regards to the video an example could be the ollie at 4.21 but faster. Since in Italy right now there is only artificial snow I'm practicing going really fast both switch and normal but as i try to jump at this speed over a common track edge i find really difficult to adjust my position correctly before the takeoff and so i end up landing in the worst position ever. Thank you!|

Hum, kinda interesting video! I found out some usefull tips for myself in the vid. In addition as a rider who's desperately trying to learn stable and high ollie i often face some more failures and mistakes l'd like to share: 1) when trying to pop off the ground the tail of my board slips out either in front of me or behind 2) when the nose of the board is in the air it sometimes feels almost impossible to jump with just back leg 3) landing on the front foot first 4) it looks like i am trying so hard to jump higher on my own and snowboard doesn't help me with it's flex so i can't imagine how do i take off for one meter off the ground. I am not a native English speaker so i apologize if something isn't understandable
@makoko68123 жыл бұрын
sounds like you're having either a softer board or a borad with heavy rocker. The stiffer the board and the more camber in the tail the more "supportive" it will be with ollies. Maybe its just this what makes you feel not getting much support from your board? Think you can test this by going in a manual-position and seeing how much you have to "force" the board to bend. If this feels easy there is not much loading going into the board.

on frontside and cab spins I really throw my weight in the backseat on the heelside edge and the ollie comes pretty naturally. I use the snap off the tail to avoid prespinning and to push me forward so I don't go too backseat. Backside spins off the toes, I probably ollie less than any other trick, and use my toes a bit more than actually ollieing, but the tail should still be the last to leave the lip. If you watch some backside spins in slow mo from the pros you usually still see that snap that comes with an ollie

Tommie Bennet says: use Pop in terrainpark and use Ollie only for flat ground terrain, or drops. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h4PCcqydmad4n6s So as you are both experts.. I am confused now. For me its really hard to Ollie in strong kicking jumps. It makes me unstable if I ollie at the end of an e.g. table jump. Tommy says basically same in his Video. I noticed also..if you have a stiff Camber board, then ollie is easier and saving energy on flat ground. If you have a soft rocker board, it does not a lot of support, making ollies even bit lower than pop. The skateboard comparison is a bit misleading, as you cant pop a skateboard (missing binding). but place a binding onto a skateboard and you jump higher when using pop
@rubberonasphalt3 жыл бұрын
This is how I see it. In general: 1. if I need to get up high, or get some clearance to jump onto a feature, then Ollie. 2. if you are gonna get some height off a jump, or a side hit, you don't need the extra height, so just pop. in the end, if you are comfortable with pops and Ollies, you'll know when to use either. There's no rules, just try and see what works for you

@ShredSchool13 жыл бұрын
It is correct to say that you "pop" , but I think of that as a subtle ollie because the tail still snaps. It's the exact same motion just more subtle. Ollie off a sizable ramp is very dangerous and should not be practiced until you're really familiar with the ollie on flat ground first. Mistiming it means pushing the tail forward and landing on your hip or back, both are very painful. It's recommended to pop off a ramp first, even if it doesn't go as high.

One thing I think you missed, it definitely helps if you have a softer board. You have a stiff board, it would be nearly impossible to do ollies.

@@ShredSchool1 And as I said, "definitely helps". As you make the nice correlation with skateboarders, they do have the advantage to lift the board by stepping on the tail. .However, snowboarders have an even greater advantage by flexing the board to pickup the board in addition to the weight shifting. However, i don't see how you would with a 2X4. Unless you call a hop, an ollie.
