Now, a month after owning the board, I see this video uploaded and it would've answered literally all of my questions. I only paid $79 for mine through Target, it was worth it in my opinion.

Another great review! One of the things i was really glad to see is testing with and without a backpack, just because the greater mass and the higher center of gravity can really change up how a board feels (esp with a heavy backpack). I bought a cruiser one summer and never got wheel bite ever, but the first day I rode it with a backpack on, I biffed it hard 'cause the higher weight and CoM turn pushed me right into wheel bite range. Love seeing the hardware and bearings too, this is primo level work taking the whole thing apart. Amazing points about quality control and and even talking about truck geometry, this is clearly the channel to get good info. For the durometer, you're gonna want to note what scale you're using and what kind of needle you have. Most skate products are in the A scale range, except for 101a wheels, which aren't measured in A at all, they're measured in D (a different scale) and then transposed to what it would've been if A could go above 100. The only other scale you'll see is the B scale, which is exactly the A scale, but -20, so 100a (the highest the A scale can actually measure) is equivalent to 80b. Also, just to note: anything higher than 95a is going to start to get iffy for the A scale. If you measure something 95 or higher, you can actually swap out the needle on the A scale durometer for a D scale needle, and that will basically transpose it into the B scale, allowing you to measure 75b to 95b (95a to 115a equivalent). Sorry if that was an info overload. As far as using the durometer, just turn it on, make sure it's zero'ed, and then just apply the needle to the thing you're testing until the needle is no longer visible and the plate surrounding the needle is making full contact with the object.

I am 33, I grew up my entire childhood and teenage years skateboarding, surfing, snowboarding. I haven't been on a skateboard in probably a decade. I just moved back to a beach city and EVERYONE bikes and skates. Naturally I hopped on Amazon and ordered a Magneto for $100 yesterday. Then I come across this video. I just cancelled and got refunded on that order and instead I went with a Ladyachtz Dinghy for $150. I will gladly spend $50 more to get a good quality product. Thanks for all the info. I'm hoping it'll be ready to be picked up tomorrow (they said usually ready within 24 hours). CANNOT WAIT to get back on a cruiser, it's been way to long. Great video.

Hmmmm interesting, I always wondered about magneto, since it’s more expensive than most amazon boards, but it still is an amazon board. Two scenarios I could think of is 1) the higher price == better performance than other amazon boards, but still budget enough that it’s not super high quality, or 2) the higher price is just marketing to make magneto seem more high quality, but it’s in fact just another amazon board Great video as always! Here’s some of my thoughts for what they’re worth: Your durability input seems reassuring, at least as far as amazon boards go Quality control is most likely an issue, since most amazon boards are just mass produced in a factory anyway. The lopsidedness of the wheel either is likely because 1) the bearings are not in properly for whatever reason or 2) the bearing seat/core was not aligned properly during production (edit: or 3 the mold is just straight up really bad). The second (edit: or third) seems more likely in this case and would speak to the lack of quality control The trucks seem to be generic and the imperfections you mentioned out of the box is concerning. AFAIK the quality of a truck is 2-fold: durability (dependent on the materials used and processes to produce it) and precision/no extra slop (dependent on the processes to produce it and overall quality control, which is already questionable as an amazon board). The geometry of the truck makes a difference in how a truck feels (and a bit in how durable it is), but it’s a bit harder to say “this geometry is good/bad” since truck feel is largely preference and situational. But generic trucks usually just seem to copy the basic geometry of other trucks anyway, while skimping out on quality Wheel formula, shape, and construction have a lot to do with how a wheel feels, so I’m not surprised that the hawgs wheel and magneto wheel feel different, despite the same duro. (Personally I’ve stopped looking at duro as much to determine how a wheel will feel, and use duro to just dial in after I’ve picked a formula/shape/brand, same as I do with bushings, but I could be wrong about that approach, that’s just how I’ve been looking at things). But the difference in diameter is weird. Have you measured it? Some possibilities I could think of: 1) the larger contact patch is playing tricks on our eyes 2) the hawgs have worn down 3) there’s REALLY bad quality control 4) the specs are straight up marketing lies to sound like they know what they’re talking about (which wouldn’t surprise me since they’re an amazon board brand, which usually don’t actually care about boards and just put business and profit first, AND they had the board dimensions wrong anyway). If it’s (3) that could explain why the review guy had such bad wheel bite while other people had it fine. Maybe he had REALLY big wheels that didn’t fit? If you’re willing, I’d love to see cheaper amazon board vs magneto just as an experiment, though I get that it’s a bit of a waste of money so you don’t have to. Also I know this isn’t a dancer channel, but the magneto dancer seems interesting, especially compared to both the (formerly) $50 volador dancer and LY stratus
@concrete-waves4 жыл бұрын
Dude this is great info, thanks for taking the time to write all this. My personal take is that their quality is slightly better than most other Amazon boards, but their heavier focus on marketing makes then seem a lot better. I do appreciate how on their website they list a lot of information that even larger companies leave out. As far as the wheels go, I think they did a rough estimate of the size because that seems like what they did with all the other dimensions of the boards. I actually have a Volador and another Amazon board. I want to do a video in the future about the major issues I find with Amazon boards
@RJazz9094 жыл бұрын

Another good video. Looks like you're going to be an important part of communicating accurate information to new skaters going forward. As far as trucks, polar bears vs magneto, its really hard to talk about functional differences without published specs from both. But they do appear to be very similar. Some of the key features of TKPs are going to be pivot axis angle ( affects the turning radius ), kingpin angle ( affects bushing progression ), axle offset ( affects rake ), bushing seats ( affects how restrictive the bushings are ), and whether it has a straight or bent pivot ( affects resistance and turning progression ). Gets pretty complicated, but the thing to watch out for I think for the layman is probably straight vs bent pivots as they're almost two separate styles of TKPs, and then if its published then it might be worth mentioning the pivot angle. For RKPs, the things to look at are pivot axis angle, and axle offset, and bushing seats, in order of importance. Good RKPs almost always have pivot angle published. These two trucks as far as I can tell in the video seem very similar, perhaps almost identical as far as geometry. But for sure Landyachtz is coming from a position with much better quality control, much more experience in making and designing trucks, better casting quality, and just a better fit and finish. However in the end, so long as each has good bushings, they should both ride about the same.

Bought this board this summer, it's consistent with many of the stuff in this video. It's a good board overall, for the price. Hey man, after dropping the $$ for those parts was the board still worth it? I'm asking for selfish reasons. I want a nice cruiser without dropping $160 for the top brands, but if I buy a cheaper board I keep spending just as much after the needed additional parts. 😓
@DoesItMakeMeBLEGH3 жыл бұрын
@@DoctorMeh for me I am really enjoying this board, personally I like to mess around with the wheels right when I get a new board I like to see how it handle with my other wheels. It is a bit small about 25 to maybe 26.5 inches long so if you have really big feet and a wide stance it probably not for you. I'm not a tricks guy I'm a low to high speed carver and surf skater, for me I love how it feels like I'm on a board from the 1970's as well my mother who grew up near venice beach california during the Zephyr boys area loves it as well she did a 180° spin on it blew my mind. And on that it is a nice little board for just wanting to cruise a bit if your gonna go long distance I suggest getting red bones or yellow jacket bearings and some nice 65 to 70mm wheels that's what I did. I only spent about 20$ for new wheels as well all shipping and handling was free. For me I wanted a bit of a small board like this cause I wanted to expand my boarding style been mostly a pintail and drop deck boarder. So to sum it all up if you don't want to spend 160$ on a board from the official site like landyacht or santa Cruz i would recommend this one, or look also on amazon for Z-Flex boards reviews on those boards are always amazing I can never find a bad one on Z-Flex, this is all just me I'm not sure how other people feel about this board but I have enjoyed it nonstop since I got.

Do you know what the name for the grip on the board is? Is it a type of spray?
@concrete-waves4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what exactly it is but it's some sort of spray they probably do at the factory. Something similar to lucid grip

I'm a 6th grader who wants to cruise, is a beginner, what should i get? Penny or land yachts??

Is this mini cruiser like the Arbor Pocket Rocket mini cruiser?
@TheReal_DeanD4 жыл бұрын
The wheels from that Magneto Mini Cruiser look a lot like the wheels I got from the Volador cruiser I got from Amazon. My findings are that those wheels despite being 78A duro are softer and chip real easy. I didn't see the warping but did see chips after some cruising.

the wheel base is really long 3.5 inch than dinghy?
@ashton62694 жыл бұрын
6:07 the wheel being lopsided could be that the bearings are not in fully just double check that and let me know if that was the problem I am interested in this board and would like to know please
@hughmungus15724 жыл бұрын
I don't see how bearings could play a role in that. It's the wheels' urethane that's poured badly.
@ashton62694 жыл бұрын
@@hughmungus1572 The wheel also wobbles if the bearings are not flat in there
@concrete-waves4 жыл бұрын
Yeah you have a good point, but I'm pretty sure I noticed this before I even took the bearings out/back in. I will double check on Monday for you (don't have it with me right now)
