im sooo glad that the built-in spacers on bearings are much more common these days. ill never go back to standard bearings...

I started out skating about 1,5 years back and my (money-sensitive) approach was to buy used boards. Typically, you get a massive discount (usually about 60-70%) without any relevant draw-backs (just small dents that would happen anyway). If you dislike the board, just sell it, typically with only minimal loss or even a small margin if you made a bargain yourself. Try selling an Amazon board - you'll lose 60%+ when selling in the second hand market after unwrapping. The main advantage with this approach is that you can try out different boards without committing financially to one thing of which you have no idea whether it will suit your needs or not. Plus, you do not put your money in a global monopolist such as Amazon but pay your fellow skater. That being said, some things wear quicker than others and I typically replaced bushings and put on my own soft wheels with decent bearings on any board I bought. I own a set of Peralta Snakes 69mm with Zealous bearing that fit almost everything (even a Dinghy with a bit of riser). Cheaper soft wheels are fine as well. Equipped with your own set of well-rolling wheels, you can make any used deck-truck combination work immediately and find out which board type you really like.

You've said that if your board feels slow and sluggish its probably the wheels, but what if it doesn't feel like it holds speed for long, would that be bearings then?
@nicolenieves389Күн бұрын
Only nice thing about amazon is the return policy if you don't like the board. I did do that once where I was unsure about a style of board. Bought it, then returned it after trying it for 2 hours. Then I went to my local shop and got a santa cruz drop through and fell in love. I'll go there for new parts now and then and the staff there are amazing. What I do like also is going through manufacturers directly and going through their garage/sale section for boards that got "messed up" in production and they're sold cheaper. In many cases, those boards look pretty flawless still. Got myself a Carver surfskate for $90 (I think it had to be a mistake lol their average sale prices are 160-190). Couldn't find imperfections so I felt lucky! Also got a dinghy that retailed for $159, and got it for $119 :)

I went all in on my first longboard/freeride/downhill board. I have the moonshine proscrito. The W concave sold me on it. Then I reached out to the KZbin downhill community to figure the trucks and wheels. The setup was an adventure of its own. Then I went straight to learning slides and that is where I am now. Probably not the best method. But I just trusted my skateboarding experience to go for it. I just need to find more local spots. Driving to Asheville North Carolina takes 4 hours. Ok there is a way too long of a unnecessary comment 😂.

After 50 years of Skateboarding, my favorite "Go anywhere, Ride anything" set-up that I would recommend for anyone at any level and what I carry in the car is a bamboo, 34" Sector 9 - Fort Point Eden and Paris V3 180s with 50f/43r baseplates, Pat's Risers 3-D Insert Bushings for Paris hangers(optional but very effective at eliminating 'Paris Slop' at higher speeds) and 66mm Blood Orange MPS 80a wheels with Zealous bearings(still $15.99😉). That set-up is about as low, wide and just long enough to be as stable as it gets AND it has a kicktail. There is nowhere you can't ride that set up if you adjust the kingpin locknuts 1/2 turn in either direction for the situation.
Nice update! I plan to make something similar, but for LDP, like pros and cons of varius options. For everyone interested, there's already an introductive video on LDP on my channel 😉🍕 Ps: of your bearigs aren't terrible, like making creaking noises, the wheels are probably the thing slowing you down, at least in my experience🧐

Thank you so much for all your helpful videos man! Your longboard vs cruiser vs skateboard video that popped up on my recommended page in 2021 was actually what got me into cruising/longboarding. I got a dinghy from your review and really enjoyed that. Just recently managed to snag a a comet cruiser when there was only 2 left in their stock and I'm so pumped to ride it this week! I'm so glad you're back to making these super helpful informative videos.

The pavement in my area is pretty rough in most spots. I got these wheels for my dropdown longboard and they did the trick. It’s easier to roll around on these.

So would you say the 29” is better to practice surfing vs the 36” with a front adaptor
@concrete-waves2 күн бұрын
Yes I think so. The 29” will feel more snappy since the smaller wheelbase. If you want a larger setup, then I’d recommend putting carver CX trucks on a longer board. Just depends what riding feel you’re looking for

Good day. Our pave roads here are just not so friendly, and I have a brachial plexus injury or temporary paralysis of my left arm, so pushing and balancing has been an issue. Recently I rode a Surfskate, and that has been a love hate relationship with skateboards for 30 years, only tried it for 1 week when I was 6 years old, and now at 36 years old enjoying the surfskate Yow Meraki system. Also I attached a Yow meraki trucks on a 27" penny nickel deck with 83mm wheels. It is fun and very easy to carry around. It is safe for me regarding all those pebbles and rough terrain. All in all, it is all about freedom and having fun while riding. Safety first always 😊👌🏼🤙🏼

I am glad to hear you're enjoying the YOW Meraki. That's one of my favorites. "All in all, it is all about freedom and having fun while riding." I couldn't agree more with you :)

Thanks for this review. I was close to buying one to cruise and ride in bowls/pools. I just loved how old school it looks and I always wanted to get these Penny boards, since I wanna give my wooden board a break at times. However, with that price, I might as well buy another wooden board in a similar shape. I would have thought those Penny boards would be durable than a wooden board but the flex you’ve mentioned is kind of a hard sell for me.
@concrete-waves5 күн бұрын
I think that's a smart decision. I wouldn't feel comfortable using this in a bowl/pool
@Ambubruno6 күн бұрын
Hey, great work with the channel, a lot of good information! Do you think is viable to use a surfskate truck in a mini cruiser shape? About 14inches of wheelbase
@concrete-waves5 күн бұрын
Thanks i appreciate that! It is possible, however that is on the smaller side and will feel snappy/punchy

Then why did Landyachtz tell me tkps give more stability and carving?
@concrete-waves6 күн бұрын
Well it depends. Will the TKPs be on a longer wheelbase than the RKP setup you were comparing it to? What was the context?
@OseghaleIghalo7 күн бұрын
can i still push with a waterborne adapter?
@concrete-waves6 күн бұрын
It is possible but I would say it's not ideal for longer distances because of the way it pivots and sits high off the ground
@kai_plays_khomus7 күн бұрын
Thanks for sharing, particularly the back truck wedging thing - it wouldn't have occured to me in this context because I would have ascribed wobbling to bad weight distribution (i.e. too little weight on the front foot) on my part as well as the front truck's configuration even though it makes perfect sense. Sometimes I'm shocked about my own bias when it became apparent once again.. 😅
@concrete-waves6 күн бұрын
Haha ya I think weight distribution is a big factor but there other things you can do to help prevent it 🙏
