A well done video and shows good technique as well. I HATE the Scotty puller but it is compact. For old guys(me), I LOVE my davit and capstan which lets the pot clear the gunwale and swings in, no lifting!!!
@my-back-yard2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! When that puller no longer functions, I’m getting the davit version.

Awesome video I watched a lot of shrimping videos you’re probably one of the most I was excited about it I never seen so many shrimp in one pot pull like you guys did. I was go to give it a try last year but I had to cancel all my plans I’m a disabled veteran and had back surgery so plans changed I’m hoping I can this year is there a boat launch around there to put in I have an aluminum boat I would love to take a trip and try it for my first time never did it I bought everything with the boat thanks for sharing your information you said vegetable oil cat food can mackerel fish fertilizer to make good recipe thanks

Thank you! I posted 4 shrimp day videos from last year. If you have a boat that doesn’t need a floating dock to launch and retrieve (i.e., small enough), I’d use Misery Point in Seabeck. If you need a dock, either Salisbury or Pleasant Harbor. But get there really early, plan to be there by 530-6 because those ramps get hammered on shrimp days.

We need to do a video. One inch galvanized wire mesh, and go just under the Washington state regulations.

@@my-back-yard really the galvanized wire holds up to the salt water use?? I'm sure they get a good rinse off once they are home
@bearingbeater Жыл бұрын
Up here in B.C. we make them out of a product called Aquamesh, its used in the shell food industry. Its a plastic coated galvanized wire. Aqua Pacific Industries in Nanaimo might be able to help you out. Comes in rolls of various size mesh.

How do these shimp compare to gulf shrimp from the store?

There’s no substitute for fresh shrimp. I’d have to try fresh gulf shrimp to give an honest answer.

@@my-back-yard I was actually referring to the amount of shrimp. I've never landed that many at once. 😅 I've only ever used the typical circular traps wrapped in netting.
@my-back-yard2 жыл бұрын
That year, we’d get one pot per day that had a massive haul in it 200-350. The rest would be 60-100 or so. Couldn’t correlate it.
@Mo_Taser2 жыл бұрын
@@my-back-yard I was a commercial diver in BC for many years until I was sidelined by a car accident. I never actually went to an area where shrimp are targeted. I would throw a pot in the water sometimes while I was working somewhere and see if I might catch a few. Sometimes I would, sometimes I'd get skunked. I don't think I ever caught more than 50 or 60 at a time. Same with crab pots. I'd throw one of those in the water too if the substrate was likely to contain crab. I'd also frequently hop back in the water after the day's work was done and bring up some fresh dinner. Maybe a crab or two, some sea cucumber, definitely rock scallops. The best tasting thing I've ever eaten, and I only had it once, I only ever saw it one time, was a Puget Sound king crab. Absolutely the best tasting crab I ever had.
