My starting GH was 4-5 but now is 6. I use RO water (remineralised) and do 15% water change every week...however due to plants I add fertilisers everyday. The TDS goes up each day. Is this an issue ? I have not seen deaths but not seen many babies either.

Can you talk about planaria the flathead worms? How you keep clean and not worms like that?

Those dark blue/green morphs in that mixed tank are amazing. I would kill for those guys but I am in the US unfortunately. I wonder if there is any chance of isolating those and stabilizing that color? So cool.
@SooShrimpBreeders3 жыл бұрын
The green shrimp I noticed was a tank parameter thing. When I would switch them to another tank they would turn full black again.

Is that indian almond leaves..
@MsLila443 жыл бұрын
I agree to just go room temp and let the tanks adjust with the little bit of daily normal temperature swings of night and day. How boring and unnatural if it’s always 75* or some other set temp.. also heaters fail and cook the tank!

I have a ? about substrate life. Everybody says life of substrate is 9mo to 2 maybe 3years, do to there buffering capabilities. In regard to caridina shrimp, and my experience of substrates like ada Amazonia which I use. Even though they loose buffering capacity over time Don't they tend to go acidic as they age? Or is this my misunderstanding? I remineralizer RO/DI water with salty shrimp gh+ add no kh. If you do change substrates using ADA, do I need a separate aquarium for the shrimp because of what the new substrate leaches into the water? Or does my filter and plants pick up most of what leaches before becoming harmful to shimp? Please share your insites, Much appreciation, Troy

Hi Nathan. I've asked you this question before but haven't got any response from you yet :D My question is: Would you let me know how often you have to replace the substrate before it's losing its buffer capability? and the method that you use to replace the substrate in a tank full of shrimps like yours? Thank you,
@SooShrimpBreeders6 жыл бұрын
There are a couple methods. One is to remove all the shrimp and reset it. Other is to have another tank and cycle the media and replace a scoop a day

maybe include cleaning the tank? i have a really hard time because i use the global stratum substrate and it is so hard to clean as it all gets sucked up by the siphon and makes all my plants disrupted
@jkhijirida6 жыл бұрын
megan mclaughlin, I’m not sure what global stratum is, but in my tank I use Fluval which is pretty light. I use a 1 liter plastic coke bottle (with the bottom cut off) glued to Several feet of 1/2” ID tygon hose. The coke bottle increases the cleaning area and slows the flow to keep the substrate from getting sucked up.

Can you reccomend a good place to purchase/order the Indian Almond leaves? I have not been successful with purchasing locally (in the PA of USA)

Nice video, i’m Have the same setup as you, but the tank is only 10G , same plants and CRS +RCS , and in the last month they had stop breeding and shrimp seems too quite and stay hided the majority of time. I’m worried. I’ll try the duckweed decaying underneath the water lettuce trick, very interesting
@SooShrimpBreeders6 жыл бұрын
Sometimes they stop breeding on me too. This tank for some reason is year round.

Do you leave in the leaves until they decay completely, or do you take out the residues?

Great video! Do you feed the plants in your crs tanks if so how does this affect your tds also have you found products such as seachem prime affect the tds ? None of this is relevant to my tanks but i am always trying to learn !
@SooShrimpBreeders6 жыл бұрын
Prime raises the tds only slightly. I don't feed any fertilizer in my shrimp tanks.

hey shrimp lovers, I am a newbie on this new hobby and I am experiencing shrimp dying. My water perimeter PH 7 / 20-22c / TDS 180-220. I have both caridina and neocaridina mix in one tank for keeper reason. Can anyone share with me on what other elements that I should look into? thanks, load guys
@bigsky4455 жыл бұрын
What are your other water parameters? Should be Ammonia 0.00ppm Nitrites 0.00ppm Nitrates 0.05ppm Your TDS should be about 100-150 They need hiding places, Bio film to eat & consistency with parameters. Only about 10% water change every other week & two sensitive when adding fresh water. I need more info to help you. How long has your tank been cycled? What size is your tank? What do you use as a filter? What is your substrate? What temp is your tank? Do you have algae in your tank? Is water from your tap the same as your aquarium water (parameters) If you reply with more info, I'd be happy to help as much as I can. God Bless.
@Cleeon5 жыл бұрын
Not that simple based only from water parameters, believe me, lots of shrimps die because of our mistake. That shrimp need a mature aquarium at least 1 month, with regular natural or artificial lighting and good water current and stable filtration
