Lore time : - First cinematic is the presentation of the world of Azeroth with most of the races and playable classes. - Second one takes place in Outland (another planet) the demon guy is Illidan Stormrage, a main character of the Warcraft series. We're also shown two new races blood elf (their previous leader joined Illidan who's the bad guy) and draenei (Outland was their planet and was destroyed) -Third one takes place in the continent of Northrend in Azeroth where the Lich King resides and he's a main character of Warcraft and the antagonist of this expansion (really badass by the way) -Fourth one shows Deathwing, a really powerful dragon who once was a protector of this world and went mad because of evil beings and now seeks to destroy the world -Fifth one takes place in Pandaria, a continent on Azeroth which was envelopped by mists until now where Pandarens live (and yes you can play them) so you explore this new continent and face the evils there. -Sixth one takes place in an alternative timeline of the origin of the orcs. In the normal timeline the big ass brown orc drinks the green blood and goes mad along with his people and invade Azeroth. Here, he rejects the gift because an orc from the original timeline went back in time to warn them. - Seventh one is basically the big boss of villains and his army who found a way to invade our world because in its core resides a powerful entity -Eighth one is self explanatory -Ninth one takes place in Northrend where the new lich king fights Sylvanas and when she shatters the helm, she also breaks the veil between life and death in order to start her mAsteRpLaN (I don't like the lore behind this expansion)

Power of a god of one of the cosmic powers. Got NOTHING to do with plot armor. Plot armor is called that way because there is no explanation, the character simply is powerful to succed so the story can continue, even though it makes zero sense. It's made more than clear in the story of Shadowlands that she got those powers from a Death god, and the gods of the cosmic forces are FAR beyond the power of any mortal. Even when you beat someone in the game, it's always with massive support, including other cosmic forces. For example the Lich King is in the end solely beaten by cosmic force Light. Light destroys Frostmourne and by that robs Arthas of most of his power. When you fight gods, like a Titan or Zoval, you ALWAYS got support from other gods and in case of Zoval from Azeroth itself. He would have roflstomped you without that.

There's an extremely deep and complex backstory surrounding Lady Sylvanas Windrunner - I've been playing World of Warcraft since the latter part of Vanilla (before any of the expansions) and I'm fairly sure even I know only a portion of it. But a brief summary, from what I recall over the years: Arthas, son of Terenas Menethil II, King of Lordaeron, was so determined to stop the original Scourge that he crossed many moral boundaries - including the complete annihilation of the city of Stratholme, killing countless innocents in the process. This gave the cursed runeblade Frostmourne the opportunity to corrupt him completely, becoming the new leader of the Scourge. As the Lich King, he led his undead armies against many kingdoms - including Lordaeron, Quel'Thalas, and Dalaran. When he besieged the Human capitol of Stormwind, the Sindorei sacrificed thousands of their finest warriors in the city's defense. Lady Sylvanas Windrunner was originally an elite Sindorei (aka Blood Elf, one of several high elven races in Azeroth) ranger - limited yet potent magic combined with legendary archery skills and a brilliant tactical mind. In retribution for their defense of Stormwind, Arthas turned his eye towards the Blood Elf capitol of Silvermoon City... but the Humans did not reciprocate and the Sindorei were abandoned to face the Scourge alone. She fell to Arthas and, rather than allowing her a clean death, he used Frostmourne to enslave her soul and transformed her into a banshee. She eventually managed to break free of the Lich King, reclaimed her original body, and liberated Lordaeron. The citizens' minds freed, though their bodies remained corrupted by the Scourge, they sought to rejoin the Alliance but were rejected. Under Sylvanas' leadership, they dubbed themselves The Forsaken and desired nothing more than to be left in peace. But being perceived as horrifying monsters, this was not to be. Synergizing her old ranger skills with her newer undead abilities, she became known as The Banshee Queen. During the Battle of Angrathar the Wrathgate, Grand Apothecary Putress (one of Sylvanas' captains, though it's uncertain if he was acting under her orders) unleashed an extremely potent Plague which annihilated the Scourge, decimated the united Alliance and Horde forces, and seriously wounded the Lich King. Highlord Bolivar Fordragon fell to this assault, but ultimately survived when the dragons of nearby Wyrmrest Temple purged the Plague with dragonfire. This left Bolivar horribly disfigured and, when Tirion Fordring led Arthas' defeat, he knew that the Scourge would run rampant unless someone became the new Lich King - sacrificing himself to keep the Scourge forces under control. "There must always be a Lich King." As you can probably understand, Sylvanas detests 'the living' who perpetually shun The Forsaken and rightly despises the Lich King like no other. She is both ruthless and relentless in pursuing whatever course of action seems of the most benefit to her people - even siding with the Alliance, as you saw in some of the cinematics. She never understood why Warchief Vol'jin, the Troll who was mortally wounded in battle, proclaimed her the new Warchief with his dying breath, but she saw an opportunity to use the might of the Horde to defend Lordaeron and The Forsaken. Though, as it came out in a later cinematic, she only saw the Horde as a means unto an end. Knowing this, Varok Saurfang's smile when Sylvanas proclaimed the Horde to be "nothing" becomes all the more meaningful. No matter what else happened, he had forced her into revealing her hand before everyone - Horde and Alliance alike. As her words stripped The Forsaken of their strongest defense, she turned her attention to the ultimate source of their suffering - the Lich King and his Helm of Domination. Despite her power, the Helm was the one and only thing she truly feared - it had enslaved her and The Forsaken before and, so long as it existed, it could possibly enslave them again. The classic mantra in writing is "There, but for the grace of God, go I" - or sometimes "The Villain is the Hero of their own story." Without much of this background, Sylvanas is readily perceived as evil incarnate. But strictly from her own perspective, she is arguably incorruptible in her pursuit of freedom and justice. This runs throughout the narrative of World of Warcraft, and is a cornerstone of the game's enduring popularity.

The coolest thing about the cinematic with Sylvanas vs Saurfang is the constant yet subtle reverence to who Saurfang was. For context, Sylvanas was Warchief of the entire Horde but Varok Saurfang was High Overlord of Orgrimmar. The capital city's mayor essentially. That's why it was so important for his body to be taken inside the city. And that's why Sylvanas wanted to make him suffer in particular. His loyalty meant the loyalty of the people. He was their hope. Sylvanas hated hope for reasons that are later revealed.

In a few weeks there will be a "Mist of Pandaria Remix" event where you can faster level a character through the Mist of Pandaria expansion and it will give you a nice range of activities although not completely the same as the regular game, that said, when doing normal levelling you wont see it all anymore anyway so remix is probably the best way to go, especially if you want to play in a month or so. I have enjoyed all expansions (started playing in Cataclysm so MOP was my first expansion). And in a few months the new pre-patch content for the next expansion will start so you are jumping in at a good time to experience that whole hype up to the next expansion. I can try to sum it up for you here. So, the main races are orcs and humans. Orcs arent from azeroth, they are from a planet called draenor(the planet where saurfang goes to convince thrall to fight for the horde), which after it got pretty much obliterated, is now called outlands. Now, originally orcs were corrupted by drinking the blood of the demon mannoroth(the big guy with wings in the warlords of draenor cinematic). What you saw in that cinematic is like a parallel universe we went to in that expansion, which is also 35 years before the original timeline in that expansion. So, originally, orcs were corrupted by demons and opened a portal to azeroth where they fought with humans. The humans made the alliance with dwarves and defeated the orcs multiple times. After the last victory over the orcs, the alliance closed the portal to draenor and put the orcs in internment camps where they treated them like trash, of course. The orcs broke free eventually, and thrall founded the horde. He and grommash hellscream(again, the one you see in the alternate universe) defeated mannoroth and broke their curse, freeing the orcs from their bloodlust, but grommash still dies. Prince arthas(later the lich king) was one of the humans who fought the orcs. You see, demons are a constant threat throughout the history of azeroth, ruled by a corrupted titan(something like a god),and they made a sword which steals your soul and corrupts you and a helm that makes you the lich king(he can control the undead). They put a soul of a tortured orc in that helm thinking he will work for them. Arthas was chasing a demon to northrend where the demons and their armies surrounded arthas’s army, so in order to save his people he found the sword which stole his soul and defeated the demons. The demons planned for him to find that sword, but they didnt plan that the orc soul infused in the helm and sword would betray them and tell arthas to kill them. Now corrupted arthas goes back home and kills his father and raises his kingdom as undead. The rest of the demons think arthas is on their side. They summon one of the most powerful demons in the universe(second in command) to destroy the world. A small group of humans ally with the horde and night elfs to defeat that demon, which they do. Eventually, arthas merges with the helm and becomes the lich king. Before he even became the lich king he killed millions and raised them as undead(one of which is sylvannas who later breaks out of his control and makes her undead kingdom). We later kill him, but we are told there must always be a lich king, otherwise the undead would go rampant in the world, so another guy puts on the helm, but doesnt let it corrupt him. In cataclysm, thrall names garrosh hellscream the warchief of the horde(son of grommash), because thrall is the most powerful shaman in the world and has to deal with the elements going insane, so he doesnt have time to be the warchief. Garrosh, being a hotheaded warrior, starts going to war with everyone. In mists of pandaria, the horde and the alliance come together to dethrone garrosh. They defeat him and during the trials, a rogue bronze dragon(bronze dragons control the time) transports garrosh to an alternate universe which is 35 years in the past. The reason the dragon did that is because he wanted garrosh to assemble an army from another universe to bolster azeroth against the demons. Garrosh being garrosh, after being transported to alternate draenor, immediately kills the dragon and goes to see his father grommash(who is dead in the original universe). He tells him not to drink the blood from the demon and saves his life in the cinematic because he knew how he died. Instead of bolstering our ranks, alternate draenor founds the iron horde and makes a portal and attacks azeroth. We go in the portal and close it. Thrall kills garrosh in makgora(duel to the death) and we defeat the iron horde, but the demons are coming once again. They kill the alliance king and the new horde warchief, but eventually we go on their world and defeat them, imprisoning the corrupted titan who is leading them. Now, the horde warchief is sylvannas and alliance king is anduin. Battle for azeroth starts. Sylvannas starts another war with the alliance. She burns the tree from the night elfs(it is a huge tree where night elfs live). Saurfang(the main orc from the cinematics) gets pissed because he believes in honor and she just killed a bunch of civilians. To explain why she is doing all the bad things would take too long. Alliance attacks undercity(main city of undead, former human kingdom of prince arthas) and sylvannas lures them in and then plagues the whole city(a plague is like a poison which either kills you or turns you into undead, depends on the kind), making it useless to the alliance. However, the alliance capture saurfang because he purposefully stayed behind to fight all of them alone after seeing what sylvannas is doing during the battle. Anduin sets saurfang free so he can start a revolution in the horde. As you saw in the cinematic, instead of a battle, he challenges sylvannas to makgora and manages to provoke her into saying something she shouldnt have said. In the last cinematic, she fights the new lich king and breaks his helm, opening the gateway to the realms of the dead(places where people’s souls go when they die). PS i didnt mention illidan from the burning crusade, he has a quite interesting and long story.

When you boot WoW up for the first time, it always plays the current cinematic upon launching it for the first time As well as you can look and find all of the Expansion cinematics in the client itself when on the log in screen or character screen. Might've heard it that one time you tried to play it as a kid. And yeah, WoW expansion cinematics have always been top tier and memorable, even for the less liked Expansions. The quality can't be denied though. If you wanna do another WoW react and get a literal whole rundown of all of WoW's lore from before it became an MMO all the way to current expansions check out a video called "All WoW Lore in 23 Minutes" I think, it's a great summary and easy watch for how much it details.

about mists of pandaria, a lot of people claimed it ripped off kung fu panda (including players), but the pandaren featured in the cinematic appeared in warcraft 3 back in 2002-2003. and yes, you can be a panda i dont know how to explain warlords of draenor in a way that makes sense but here goes. spoilers the bald orc that says "times change" is garrosh hellscream, former warchief of the horde and orc leader. he is one of the villains of mists of pandaria, and at the end he is arrested for war crimes. he escapes with the help of a rogue bronze (time) dragon and travels back in time, in an alternate timeline. the orc with the ponytail is grom hellscream, garrosh's father. in the original timeline, he drinks the blood of mannoroth offered by gul'dan (the warlock) and the orcs become corrupted. to free his people, he and thrall slay mannoroth, same way as in the cinematic, except the blast at the end kills him. garrosh gives grom a warning about what his fate would be, and they come prepared, hence why he rejects the blood and gul'dan is confused. the demon (a pit lord) is mannoroth. garrosh saves his father from the blast, and their goal is to raise an orcish horde to invade azeroth (which is what they did in the original timeline, but this time better equiped without demon blood) gul'dan, who is dead in the original timeline, tries and partially succeeds in summoning the burning legion (demonic army), hence legion. only thing i really have to say about bfa is to clarify that sylvanas is an undead high elf (similar to the elf in the burning crusade cinematic). she was turned into a banshee by arthas (wrath of the lich king) and then found and possessed her own body. its why she does the fly-around shriek move a bunch. she leads the playable undead faction for most of warcraft and becomes warchief during legion. using magic in a mak'gora is kind of a faux pas. its usually hand-to-hand combat (sometimes even unarmored) for leadership, and its a duel to the death by nature. its not explicitly banned but her one-shot was basically her saying "yeah, ive had enough." anduin gives varok his father varian's (who was in the legion cinematic) sword shadowlands' story is a mess. the lich king featured is a different one than the one in the wrath cinematic. he's the budget lich king there because (spoiler) "there must always be a lich king."

I've been playing since Burning Crusade. I main a gnome mage but I have other characters. Yes, you can play a lot of different races, you can be a Pandarian Monk (with moves). Orcs and Mag'har Orcs (different), Forsaken (the undead--something Sylvanas is), goblins, Blood Elves, Night Elves, Void Elves, Nightborne Elves, and the Illidari (the demon hunters, who are ALL elves--the guy who said "You Are Not Prepared" is Illidan Stormrage, who made the demon hunters). Humans, Kul Tiran (another race of humans), Tauren (the "cow" people), High Mountain Tauren (different), Worgen (the werewolves--the big gray one is the King of Gilneas, King Greymane), Trolls, Zandalari Trolls (two different races), Dwarves, Iron Forge Dwarves (different), gnomes and mechagnomes (gnomes who are part machine), and Vulpera (desert fox people). Classes: Mage (DPS, arcane, fire, frost), warlock (Affliction, Demonology, or Destruction.), warrior (tank), paladin (DPS and tanks--basically warriors with light), death knight (Tank and DPS undead warriors), shaman (Elemental (Ranged DPS), Enhancement (Melee DPS), and Restoration (Healer).--earth magic), demon hunter (Tank and DPS--double jump and kill--), Druid (Healer, DPS, Tank, and Balance), Drakthyr (DPS and Support DPS--dragon-kin, can fly), Hunter (beast mastery--pets; marksman, and survival), Monk (Brewmaster (Tank), Mistweaver (Healer), and Windwalker (DPS).), Paladin: Holy (Healer), Protection (Tank), and Retribution (DPS), Priest: Discipline and Holy (healer) specializations, or DPS as Shadow, Rogue: DPS ---Assassination, Outlaw, and Subtlety, And not all races can be all classes, there are limits (ie: I STILL can't play a gnome paladin).

I had to start answering your questions - why are the Orcs fighting? because the Legion enslaved them, then brought them to Azeroth, then they broke free - and the one went back in time to prevent them from being enslaved. Descendents of slaves - green orcs. Orcs came from Draenor before the first cinematic. The Draenor expansion was about preventing orcs from a weird splintered AU Draenor from invading 'our' Azeroth (don't ask me how that works, nobody quite understands.) Varyan was King of Stormwind and the leader of the Alliance early on, until the Legion expansion when the demons invaded again. I started playing in BFA where all the multiple stories started showing up in trailers and cutscenes. A lot of people might argue they went overboard on cutscenes but I like them (ingame if you hit the same cutscene for the 4th time you can just escape out). The Warcraft movie included way too much lore and couldn't attract a greater audience in the US, but it was the highest grossing video game movie that didn't have a sequel (note that they had to weasel word it because 2 video game movies have beat it since). There is a lot of good plot in WOW that could be straight out converted into a movie but apparently Hollywood is scared of it, rumors do pop up sometimes usually from wishful gamers.

They do small mini-series before the recent expansions that explain a lot of the lore and are amazingly well produced. These are: The Burdens of Shao'Hao Harbringers Warbringers Afterlives Also, you're a few years behind on the cinematics. The War Within cinematic is especially good! Also, out of the above list Warbringers is the most popular by far.
World of Warcraft: The classic one. The Third War is over, the demons have been chased off. But 3 whole kingdoms were wrecked in the process, cities need to be rebuilt, new bad guys might be creeping about. It's time to open the world building of the Warcraft world. The Burning Crusade: The Dark Portal to the world of Draenor is once more reopened. Demons have been using that world as a garrison ever since the orcs sold their souls to demons. With trouble escaping it since the Third War, it's time to go visit its new ruler, who is a Demon Hunter. Wrath of the Lich King: You're close, we fight an army of undead, but mostly only near the end. The fantastic lands of the far north are riddled with dragon magic and Titan treasures, for better and for worse. The Lich King is watching the forces of Azeroth grow stronger, patiently. Cataclysm: Before the First, Second and Third Wars, there was the ten thousand years in the past War of the Ancient. Demons fought elves, and in the background, eldritch Gods waited for them to weaken so they could finish the job. Their tool of destruction, Deathwing the Destroyer, has been deployed to accelerate the end of the world. His first set of commands: disturb everything that's been set in stone in the classic core game. Mists of Pandaria: I can't really tell if you're fine with spoilers. But anyway. While fighting at sea, the prince of the Alliance got lost and his ship crashed on a completely new, unexplored land. The undefeatable warchief of the Horde is about to let go of everything and sacrifice it all to claim all of Pandaria's (sometimes VERY dangerous) resources. Warlords of Draenor: Oh, no, warchief failed and is getting his just punishment. But, some time-engineer dragon took him into the past to solve some of his people's mistakes and unify them against the demons. He starts by changing history, causing all orcs to never get corrupted in the first place, and creates a new super steampunk horde. He then attacks Azeroth with it, after breaking the pact with the dragon. History might repeat itself. Legion: Yeah, the orcs did the bare necessary to re-corrupt themselves. The catalyst of it, Gul'dan, is sent to Azeroth to start the final invasion of the demonic legions. He succeeds, and slays the head of the Alliance and the Horde, eliminating both factions momentarily for the invasion. Heroes need to make the most of what they can with what they have instead. Battle for Azeroth: History MIGHT be repeating itself. After losing much to the war against the demons, the Alliance and Horde need allies and new supplies. A new planet-grade explosive mineral has been discovered, and Sylvanas, new warchief of the Horde, takes the war path and opens war after war against the Alliance. The Old Ones watch again. Shadowlands: This one's a bit bizarre. The gates of hell have been broken loose, and corrupt archangels swoop down the mortal realm to abduct world leaders. With the powers of the Lich King (What's left of them) heroes travel to the nexus of afterlives to find out how everything is in capital turmoil due to an incredible spiritual energy shortage. Dragonflight: Oh, you didn't see that one? It's pretty much as the title says. Dragons, their lands, the conflicts within, the titan conspiracy, etc etc. There's more expansions after that, we haven't gotten to them yet.

As for your question to the ammount of cinematic's for Battle for Azeroth, It was not any longer than any other expansion, but the original lore based upon the written books and so on, was about to get wrapped up, and there were many storylines to also wrap up. As for the gameplay in the expansion it self: This is my personal oppinion but, they went overboard with pumping storylines into that as well throughout the expansion (that hadn't much to do with the cinematics by the way), to an extend that it was hard to keep up. It became real messy

When Sylvanas was killed by the Lich King that sat on the throne before the one she defeated in the last trailer she was ressurected into a banshee. When the Lich King was defeated in Wrath of The Lich King (the 3rd trailer i think) she threw herself off the spire as she had no purpose in life. She went to Shadowlands and make a deal with the Jailer who was trying to take over the Shadowlands and enter into our world by breaking the veil. She did not know that the Jailer was the one who effectively created the Lich King but she was given the same powers of Domination as the Lich King possesses(The Lich King uses the helm of Domination, the one she rips apart) but a Hero of the Alliance took the frozen throne so that he could hold back the Jailer, and therefore the Jailer super charged Sylvanas so that she could defeated the Usurper of the frozen throne. This is also why she started all those wars, so that she could feed the Jailers powers in the Shadowlands(the afterlife) andd in return he would feed some of the power back to her.

Sadly, like everyone says, the content really picks up in the expansions, but narratively it's some of the best out there imo. While Blizzard doesn't always hit the mark with the game, nobody can say that the cinematics are not the best that there is. Not only did they create insane cinematics decades ago, that did not age at all, going further, the quality never fails, and the sense of excitement they create is on another level. We might've not liked WoD, but let's be honest, the second we saw that trailer, the hero we knew from decades ago in Warcraft 3, going to curse his people again, only for his own son to time travel and reveal to him of Mannoroth's ploy, and seeing him reject the gift and coming face to face with the foe he slain before and died doing so, in such a beautiful animation. I think it hit everyone who had played Warcraft 3 right in the heart. And yet again, he defeats him, and stays in his blast once again, ready to die only for Garrosh to get him out of the way. It was pure genius. We not only got the happy ending we wanted from Garrosh, we saw him do it without cursing his people. And then, they go on to invade Azeroth, building the gate, without Medivh, not as a cannon fodder, but as conquerors. That was one of the biggest hypes for the fans of Warcraft, I would say even on par with Illidan and Arthas. And it showed in the numbers in the game, for a little while. I would say we were not really interested in a war between the Horde and Alliance after Legion. The stakes went down drastically, there was a damn huge sword in the planet and the two factions went to war, again. It was not exactly something that would make us shiver with excitement. But seeing Teldrassil in flames for the first time, only for us to guess who was behind it. And I remember hoping it was Sylvanas, I wanted her to be evil. (really unlucky they butchered her character with redemption like that). But let's be honest. The main cinematic for BfA, everyone had goosebumps seeing Sylvanas scream, unleashing her banshee powers only to scream "For the Horde" and seeing the soldiers get up and fight on. And then, we get the famous crying Anduin. And yeah, everyone had goosebumps when he said "For the Alliance". For something so minor at the moment as a war, considering the lore, the cinematic certainly did stir emotions in us. Even though the war between the factions was nothing new or very exciting, the cinematic was excellent. And once again, when we got Sylvanas invading Icecrown Citadel, where "usurper" held the hordes of undead at bay, only for her to fight him and actually win. Many predicted that she would become the Lich Queen. Nobody even anticipated what she would actually do with the crown. And it blew as away. The cinematic was mindblowing, although the story went to gutters after that, that cinematic is still something to behold, and I won't forget the experience I had when they first shown the cinematic at Blizzcon. I held my breath as she held the crown, and I screamed as she tore not only the crown apart, but the fabric of the world as well. That moment was nothing short of absolutely epic. And now, with the current cinematic for The War Within, it is so subtle, so different, there is no hype, there is no epic moment. Instead, we get superb facial animation. They make them seem so human, they capture the feeling and the agony Anduin is going through, his battle within himself right in front of our eyes. The way he drew his sword and held it like Arthas. They could've made another epic cinematic with action, instead, they ventured beyond that and chose a new approach. And in my opinion, it was excellent as well. No cinematic, no animation I have ever seen captured a traumatized character so well. To show subtle facial expressions as he fought inside his own head. We got to see his struggle just through his eyes. What animation achieved something like this? They took a detour from their usual cinematics, a risky one, I would say. And it payed off wonderfully. That cinematic is a masterpiece. This is the only thing I can confidently say that Blizzard is absolutely best at. Their cinematics, be it Warcraft, Starcraft or another one of their IP's, are not only ahead of their time, but also timeless. If you showed WotLK cinematic to someone unaware and told them it's a new game just coming out, they would believe it. A cinematic that is 18 years old. Damn is it really that long ago? Wow.

@loganbennett24886 ай бұрын
The first two expansions and the "Warlords of Draenor" had a lot of lore from the Warcraft RTS games, mostly Warcraft 3. There are some things that just don't really mean anything to someone who isn't a fan. Arthas (the lich king) was a prince and a young paladin who was tricked and goaded in his quest for revenge to become the lich king, and the monologue is his father talking to him as a child (he killed his own father). In the Warlords of Draenor, the big demon is the one who originally corrupted the orcs. He tricks them into drinking his blood, which makes them strong but basically mind slaves. The trailer is from an alternate timeline where instead of drinking the blood, the orc you see (Grom Hellscream) doesn't drink the blood, so the orcs never get corrupted (but they're still very warlike). A nod to warcraft 3 is that that character does eventually break the orc corruption, but he dies fighting the demon, the shot where the other orc tackles him out of the way is the same shot as the original Warcraft 3 cinematic, but originally no friend comes to save him and he dies.
