Pretty impressive stockpile. I doubt most people could ever afford to do this. The problem I see is so many different calibers. Obviously you're an avid shooter, so it might make sense to distinguish between fun/recreational guns, and others for prepping tools. That way you can focus on stockpiling fewer calibers. Good video & Nice job planning ahead.

To save on space especially in the ammo cans, re-package it. Loose the cardboard it only holds moisture anyways. Bulk pack it with desicant packs, be sure to lube the rubber seals on the lids and seal it up. I get about 40% more in my cans that way. Label various brands and differences in grains. I don't worry about damage to the casings because of bulk packing because I don't really move them around much after loading the cans. Take it or leave it but it has worked for me.

If you are going to go through this much trouble to stock up on ammunition, I strongly suggest picking up reloading. You will make much more ammunition (at least double) than buying it factory, plus having most (not all, the OPFOR won't wait for you to load your ammo lol) of your ammo in components is an advantage as you can load ammunition to the situation you find yourself in. If you find a good supply of lead, casting will really stretch your money to almost 7x more ammo vs factory.

Thanks my friend. The ammo shortage really changed my view of how much ammo I need to keep on hand. I have probably shot off 3000 rounds at the range this year, so I realized that I needed to build up a bigger stock or risk running out. As always money is the biggest issue with what I get.

Good point about the corrosive ammunition. I always swab out my guns with any glass cleaner which contains some ammonia when I'm done at the range shooting old milsurp ammo, then give them a thorough cleaning when I get back to the house.

JDshootsalot I obviously don't know what kind of gun you're shooting, but I have 4 AR-15's that I shoot Tulammo through with consistent good results. A couple years or so ago, I shot some Tula and it was incredibly dirty. However, I think they must have changed their powder formula because it doesn't seem to shoot any more dirty than any of the regular "good" brand name ammo does. I buy it at Walmart by the 500 round sardine can for $119.00 + tax and that equals out to be $5.09/box/20. Can't beat that for cheap plinking ammo!

Good rule of thumb is to have 1000 to 1500 rds per firearm. MINIMUM.. To rotate as you practice and buy more. If you get down to 1000 rds STOP shooting an get more. If SHTF today and all you have is 200 rds you are screwed. Bartering is going to occur after things calm down and ammo is going to be more sought after than gold and silver. No need to Hoard if you buy a little at a time you'll do well. As for so many calibers SO WHAT. I got a bunch too. :) Ya gotta have a few long distance rifles and 8mm and 762x54R are awesome choices for the budget minded. 762x39 is a great medium range weapon so is .223, 22lr for plinking an practicing the fundamentals, 12ga for skeet and food collecting plus 00Buck for home defense. 9mm for personal defense. Nothing wrong with what ya got, ,dnt let people tell you that you got too many calibers to deal with. Different guns for different scenarios. My only concern was the one box of premium self defense 9mm, I would bulk tht up some. Other than that, good job.

Van Prepper NEWS FLASH The ATF are banning green tip M855 5.56 ammo ASAP so people are buying it up as we speak. Just read this morning and when I got to walmart there was a line. online is sold out in a lot of places. They dnt want us having penetrating ammo. Go to AmmoSeek to find 62 M855 online or run to walmart and look for ZQ1 5.56 Nato ammmo. Its like $10 for 30rds. No green tip but they are the penetrating M855 ammo :) Good luck and God bless you and yours.

I hoard primers, cases, bullets and powder. I can load 1500 9MM rounds from a pound of powder. I buy it in 4 and 8 pound canisters. I can load a Hornaday XTP hollow point for a quarter. Shipped that round will cost you about $.75 each. I load for 5.56, 9MM and 300 Blackout. Those are my only weapons except for a Ruger 22. You can't purchase rounds that are as accurate as quality handloads.

I have a little over 26K rounds of ammo on hand. I get ammo cans for free from the Sheriffs office I work for so I have all my ammo in military ammo cans. I ended up getting a safe to keep my ammo in because of the money I have invested in it. Buy as much as you can especially surplus ammo like x39 and 54r just incase they ever ban ammo imports. I picked up 3K rounds of Golden Tiger when it was $234 per 1K with free shipping and I am currently at 4400 rounds of 54r and still buying it when I find it under $100 per can shipped. I think I have around 10K rounds of x39 altogether so I am going to concentrate more on 54r and 5.56 till I hit 10K on each of those.

I have a C&R license and CCW so the local Sheriff's office and ATF already know many/most of my firearms which means NSA/DHS does too. As for the ammo you are right about everything bought with a credit or debit card or online. I suspect even the stuff I have paid cash for the NSA knows about (if it wants to know about it). If they are sophisticated enough to spy on heads of state then they would be sophisticated to spy on little old me without me knowing.

@VanPrepper
@VanPrepper 9 жыл бұрын
jarhead6467 Prepping is simply preparing (for natural disaster, economic collapse, everyday life). It gets a bad rap because of shows like Doomsday Preppers, but it is just common sense. Every time there is a storm forecast you see store shelves empty of bread, water, milk, ect yet many people live their lives so unprepared that they have to run to the store, fight the crowds, and possibly have nothing. What we call prepping today was just everyday life a generation or two ago (having some food and water on hand to weather am emergency). This i not the best explanation, but I hope it helps.

The "ammo shortage" is in large part due to this type of hoarding, this "oooh it's sparse so I'm going to buy it all" mentality. This wouldn't bother me to much if these actions weren't also driving the prices up particularly on the "cheap" 22LR. but I guess it's alright because if something happens it'll just mean plenty of supply for those who do survive. stocking ammo isn't bad, if done in a socially conscious manner, but buying so much so quickly is creating a false demand that will only facilitate these things that you're so fearful of. In the end it doesn't matter, it's just funny to watch people hopping on all these bandwagons. Enjoy shooting that ammo sir.

The problem is that ammunition companies or suppliers rarely employ proper supply and demand economics. When stock becomes low, suppliers are supposed to jack up prices. This reduces the amount of purchasers who are just plinking and allows ammunition to be available to those who truly need it and are willing to drop the coin for it. Examples are new shooters who need some ammunition to be ready, but can train by dryfiring and can afford to make a one purchase of $50 for 25 rounds. By doing this, there is always ammunition available for those who really need it. By having high prices, it also encourages new companies to start up a business by making cheaper ammunition to fill the gap. After all, when going in a business endevor you have to know what the current market price is. If the shelfs are out of stock, the entrapenur does not necessarily see this, only that 9mm is $8 for 50 rounds and figures they cannot beat the market price and do not produce.
