基本摔跤防身法 (Ji Ben Shuai Jiao Fang Shen Fa)
Practical and Effective Takedowns
Shuai Jiao is one of the four main fighting categories of traditional Chinese martial arts: Kicking (Ti, 踢), Striking (Da, 打), Chin Na (Na, 拿), and Wrestling (Shuai, 摔). Shuai Jiao specializes in countering against punching and kicking, using defense as the offense. Shuai Jiao is commonly used for short range fighting and taking down an opponent.
Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming offers in-depth instruction of the history, key concepts, solo and partner drills, and fundamental Shuai Jiao movements. Dr. Yang demonstrates practical defense techniques, with an emphasis on how to safely intercept, repel, and neutralize incoming strikes.
Over 25 Shuai Jiao takedown techniques are instructed step-by-step, with corrections for common mistakes. These wrestling techniques are an excellent compliment to your sparring skills, and can be easily incorporated into all martial art styles.

Shuai Jiao is both an aspect of most Chinese martial arts, and a style unto itself. Its actually one of the oldest Chinese styles. Dr. Yang learned shuai jiao with several masters while studying long fist, white crane, and taijiquan kung fu. There are a couple lifting throws. They look alike because takedowns/throws are universal to all styles, from all cultures. The DVD focuses on 25 of the most fundamental and practical throws. The narration in the DVD is by Dr. Yang himself. YMAA dot com

It's not really that different from Western Wrestling, Judo, and Aikido which is more popular. So, kind of hard to see them as wrestling based style of kung fu.

The art of fast grappling (shuai jiao) ain't no joke I did it for ten years and its devastating if you pull it off. If you pull it off whomever you do it to will be upchucking and probably get a concussion all at the same time.

@089hlj I agree. Ever since I learned to incorporate shuai jiao into my arsenal, I find it really easy to neutralize many other traditional stylists. It allows me to turn any one of their strikes into a takedown or throw.

Zhang Tie Quan uses Shuai Jiao as primary wrestling style while using Sanshou as stand-up style. This folk wrestling has been proven effective, even in the octagon. I'm not Chinese but I got to learn about this art through Zhang Tie Quan. He's currently practicing BJJ and he's a great fighter. This is coming from a average Muay Thai fighter who enjoys MMA. Shuai Jiao is proven effective. May not be the most recommended, preferred art but it's effective and that's all it matters.

-I pretty much abandoned judo/jiujitsu once I learned shuai jiao/chin-na and truly understood it in depth. It is far superior to a lot of the common grappling style arts that are out there now. Much better for the street too. I trained both these arts in traditional kung-fu, and also studied them as separate arts as well. Truly devestating on the street when balanced with other training.

@minasz Lol have you ever tried to use these techniques? Of course they work, it's simple physics (and before you say anything these techniques have been tried and tested in sparring). Of course they aren't always so clean but they can and do work. This is an instructional DVD so the falls are sometimes exaggerated but they still work. Watch San Da if you don't believe it.

@ForwardIntent My husband, who teaches both Shuai-Chiao and Praying Mantis insists that it s. if I mention that there are different branches of Shuai-Chiao such as Bao Ding and Beijng; just as there are different branches of Praying mantis (seven star, eight step, plum blossom, etc.) you could argue that those branches are 'styles' and that the general terms Shuai-Chiao and Mantis are 'systems' or something else(The term 'category' seems odd, here). But that's just semantics.

Im actually retiring from Chinese MA's to pursue Capoeira, but I had several. 1st my grandfather Russell Tye Sr. who taught my two uncles Alexander Tye and Christian Russell and then all three of them taught me. Then my uncles then went to Master Aaron Brown to learn Liu Seong Kuntao. I hate Kuntao so I abandoned it I later when to All-Star Martial Arts where I got an even more in depth understanding of Shuai Jiao, Kuai Jiao in particular. I also was on the wrestling team and learned basic TKD.

@Cuntexplosion Yes he is slightly out of shape but look at how old he is. The techniques are solid and proven (and have been used in sparring). Also, when UFC first started plenty of the fighters were out of shape. Having a bit of a belly doesn't automatically make someone a bad fighter, especially when age is considered. Muhammed Ali is out of shape now but does that mean he could never fight in his day? Of course not.

Any documentary or research website will show that all Japanese MA come from Chinese MA. As AmericanCryer stated even the infamous Gaycies gave credit to Chin Na which is the Submission System of all Chinese MA not be confused with this vid which is wrestling. In Chinese MA we draw a very distinct difference between wrestling and grappling. Wrestling is controlling someone without jointlocks and strangling. Grappling is using joint and strangling for control. Hope that helps smart ass :)

I wouldn't even know where to start. I heard that if you train in kung fu you can learn to fight in about 3 years. With tai chi it takes about 10 years but is well worth the wait as tai chi is superior to external kung fu. My favorite style is Sanshou kung fu. I just wish there was a dojo in my area.

Dude Yang Tai Chi is a Chinese wrestling style like Shuai Jiao so they're gonna look similar. In fact u'll even seen movement in Shuai Jiao that looks just like Ba Gua, I know cuz ive seen it. Look at Judo and Aikido they look just like this. My point is all MA is connected and at top level they all look the same. And so Im not polite cuz I asked u did u read the tag or listen to the narrator but u say I come of like "I" have no sense. Wat ever bra I was just informing u, but I guess I no sense.

@Brandontrann wrestling is a better reference point to train from when doing chin na so that may be why one would assume those a quitisential supports in applying. but an example that still exists today would be chinese kung fu brigdging concept which doesnt not require wrestling to employ china or throws. also since ninjutsu taught today in the bujinkan and in classical time borrowed regional jujisuts in their empty hand the also parry and bridge to do locks

Sort of. All Chinese martial arts contain four aspects, shuai (wrestling), na (grappling), punching, and kicking. So, Shuai Jiao is an (ancient) martial style unto itself, but shuai is part of most other martial styles. Chin Na is not a martial art style. It is a grappling technique within all styles...Hope that helps.

Excellent. but the world have to come to the realization wrestling/grappling martial arts originated from ancient Africa Nubia, Kemet were you can find hundreds of hieroglphs on the walls of Egyptian tombs & temples. many of the paintings depict ancient Nubian soldiers engaging in kicks, locks, throws take downs, blows etc etc.. many of the moves resemble Chinese Shuai Jiao. these Kemetian martial arts was being practiced in Africa 3000 to 4000yrs before China and all the rest of Asia.

The thing is there are only so many ways the body works and it is inevitable that some techniques will look the same wherever they "originate". TO say they were being practiced centuries before is possible but questionable. It might just be that they recorded it first.
