Maybe the only way to destroy the corruption is to use magic from a bunch of different empires? Put the contained corruption in a mushroom and flower fairy circle to represent the undergrowth and overgrown, add crystals for gem's empire, put a totem in the chest for the lost empire, and strike it with lighting using a channeling trident to represent the ocean empire. The corruption is very powerful so it might be the only way strong enough to get rid of it.

I love what you're doing with your basement. If you can get a texture pack put on the server for it, then it would be awesome to have a wood block submerged in water and then after a while it becomes cracked and that just sounds like it would give your basement an ancient sort of vibe

Just a suggestion, but it might look cool if you grew/build a couple trees around the edge of the nether mushroom hole. That way you can still see the moon, but you also get to look at the leaves peeking around the edges when looking up. Also, it would make the hole look less conspicuous.
