We usually flew in the local HS parking lot. Empty in the summer. Mom or my friends mom had to drive us there. A little too far to walk and could not carry our planes and flight boxes on our bicycles.

People still do control line flying? It was big when I was a kid. I went to start an engine, but it kicked over in reverse and the lines wrapped around me. I was just waiting for the thing to chop me up, but the prop hit a loose piece of clothing and stopped. I was so lucky. But that stuff was fun!
