Definitely considering the mic for my new purchase. I bought the Stellar X2 a few years back and it’s been doing a great job with its custom capsule.

That’s crazy you basically don’t need the cloud lifter. When you record vocals through the SM7B do you usually record right up to it? I find I still get plosives

I do. I will switch out the thicker windscreen that comes with it though, depending on the vocalist.

Loudness is alright but how's it behaving as far as the STN ratio is concerned when its internal preamp is on? Does it introduces any boost in the mids and the highs when both internal and external amp are active in one way or another, does it have any changes frequency-wise? Thanks in advice, my guy. Bless.

The internal pre is crystal clear, introduces no additional noise even at +28. No change in frequency response compared to the SM7B.

Thank you for the video. I think I still like the SM7B sound…but I’m in an untreated room, so...I’m looking for something for metal vocals - I have a Roland Rubix 24 interface and am trying to decide between the SM7dB or the SM7B and Cloudlifter. All advice appreciated, folks! Thanks x
@SeanDivine13 күн бұрын
The SM7b and SM7dB sound identical. The SM7Db has a cloudlifter built in (you can also turn it off, effectively making it an SM7b). No reason not to get the SM7dB at this point IMO.

Quick question: I'm using a Shure SM7dB with a Canon Mark IV 5D, and I'm getting quite a lot of hissing, i.e., a 'ssshhhh' sound in the background. Cable is Tisino XLR to 3.5mm Mini Jack Microphone Cable. Do you know what might be causing it?
@SeanDivine7 ай бұрын
Using the onboard mic input on your camera is likely the culprit. They're not designed to be noise free and clean like a proper audio interface / preamp.

Would you say this would be good mic for a un-treated basement? Or would the old sm7b be work just as good? I’m currently in the process of moving my studio to the basement but it’s not treated at all and it’s all concrete. I currently got a big rug to kinda help with acoustics and have some panels to put up but that’s about it for now. I want to get a vocal booth but they’re just super expensive. Just figured to see your thoughts. Trying to speed up my workflow.
@SeanDivine7 ай бұрын
The SM7b is one of the best mics for untreated rooms IMO. It's dynamic and doesn't pick up much ambience from the sides of the mic. If you don't have a great preamp, there's really no reason not to opt for the SM7dB.
@nikoofficialmusic3437 ай бұрын
@@SeanDivine Would you prefer buying the SM7db? Or just buying a SM7B with a clout lifter used? I appreciate you responding. Definitely helps A LOT! I sold mine awhile back because it wasn’t bright enough like how my bluebird mix is but I now know you can eq it so it is brighter and have a warmer tone.
@nikoofficialmusic3437 ай бұрын
@@SeanDivine Also this is random but you should make a preset just for this mic for people to use to brighten their vocals up or eq kinda like how you set it up it so it’s a little more clean. Would be dope to slap on before recoding or even after.

Doubled in Price. Original model with Good Preamp may Be Less expensive Solution. Built in Preamp design all in one Not Bad at all. With So many mics to Choose From that do The Same, this boils down to Hype. My Friend Bruce Brought The Original SM7 into the spotlight By Using it to record Michaels Vocals on ‘Thriller’. He Loved Royer Ribbons, and Neumann also. There are Many Mics to use that work well For Podcasting, Some Not so Expensive and Well below $500 pricepoint. IF It sounds Great, Use it. If handy with assembly There are Kits to assemble yourself that Contains all the Parts.
